Just curious. When this kind of thing happens, are you out the expense for all the repairs or does the sugeon take the responsibility?

4.5 months into my journey and I'm halfway there. I ve lost 45 lbs and have approx 45 to go ( I 'll decide that by how I feel when I get closer). I know it'll take me more than 4.5 months to finish as weight loss has slowed down a lot. I'm exercising, trying not to diet as much as eat right and the way I hope to eat for the rest of my life. I feel I have more of a chance of being successful if I do it that way. I have only had one fill which pretty much I cant tell, so this Monday, I go in again hopefully for another fill. This board has inspired me so much and I think I would have had alot of trouble doing this without it. Thanks alot guys. I love you all for the support advise and learning I've received from this site.

How do I kick the soda
SandyM replied to jujusmommy07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pretty sure its a mental addiction not physical. Lay it down say its bad for me and move on. My surgeon told me to stay away from it as it causes lots of gas and can cause band slippage. -
Recently joined the community and already banded for better life
SandyM replied to dsiles's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The first few days are the worse then it just gets better. Keep posting and watching the forum as it has helped me alot. They say that people who join support groups have a 50% better success rate. You are lucky to have someone share this with you. Hubby has been dieting with me and hes lost 30 lbs and is nearly at goal. Its very encourageing and a little competitive which is also healthy. Good luck and stay posted. -
Love my lap band with plication!
SandyM replied to dgoertz1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I also had the band with plication. My surgeon suggested it and I said why not. He told me it would lessen the likelyhood of slippage and also decrease the size of my stomach (basicaly they fold the stomach into itself and stitch it. Sort of like the sleeve without the cutting. Plus if I lose the band, I keep the plication and some people have been know to lose the weight with just the plication itself. I believe Carolinagirl hasnt had a fill yet and shes lost lots of weight. I have only had one fill thus far and even though, I believe the fills will help me lose it better, the plication has definitely helped so far. -
Mysery loves company and they may be miserable and jealous. I told my best friend who is slender and she was absolutely supportive. In fact, she still has my fatter picture come on the screen when I call her just so she can show me and everyone around us how far I've come. Your friends, if they are true friends will come around. Liklely they'll have alot of questions for you when they see that it is successful.

You are where I hope to be on or around my 1 year mark. I am so inspired by everybody I meet on here that goes at this seriously and does so well. -

My weight had picked up and I had pretty much quit riding. But I'm back baby! And my gear fits again:)
-
Congrats. It's just a beginning.

I agree with the above. I'm at a plateau now so im adding different machines on my resistance days. I am seeing the difference in the where are you my clothes fit...just not the scales.

As others have said each one of us will lose differently. You're young and will get back in the game pretty fast. Start getting some exercise as soon as your doctor says its ok. Possibly start by walking then get some resistence exercise in there. The first 4 to 6 weeks is for healing and md doesnt really expect much of a weight loss during that time. As for how much will go in your band will depend on you and how fast you meet resistence. Its very likely that even though your NP said she'd put 14 cc in that you'll never reach that at all. I only have 2 cc and feel no resistence really, but am going for a fill next Monday. The first few months are so is just another diet until you start having some resistence, but you can do it. I started dropping the weight really well after I started exercising.

Banded 9/12/13 & starving
SandyM replied to princesstuiaki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the protein drinks to get at least 60 gms per day and I never got hungry. Bored but not hungry. I had my surgery on Friday and went back to work on Monday. I'm home health nurse and that meant alot of bending and getting in and out of my car. I wouldn't do it again. I think if I had taken Monday and Tuesday off I would have been better off. I felt like myself by Wednesday. -
My doctor gave me a packet that answered most questions. You'll do great.

NEWLY BANDED 9/13/13!
SandyM replied to misssharee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Contrats to all of you new banders. I'm 4 months out and have lost 43 lbs. I have only had one fill and will get my 2nd one week after next. I'm excited to finally get some restriction, hopefully. Just remember right now is not about losing weight, but healing. Drink plenty to keep from getting dehydrated and keep your protein up. It'll pass pretty fast. -
Stuck to me is when nothing else will go down, not even saliva. It hurts like crazy and I feel like if I could let out a great big belch I'd feel better. Its not good to make yourself vomit when this happens as this can cause slippage of your band. Wait it out, chastise yourself for putting yourself in this situation, hug the toilet and spit the slime out and wait it out. Again, wait it out.

I think the bread is what i'll miss the most if this happens. I'm looking forward to the green. I've only had one fill and my next one is the 23rd. We'll see.
-
I havent had one in 4 months.....not going to pick it back up now. Though I do miss Dr Pepper sometimes.
-
I had my surgery in may and it was alot worse than I expected and I've had several surgeries though none abdominal. Though I will admit tht my back was out at the time and it was hard to get around with both my new incisions and my bad back. It took me about 4 days to start feeling pretty good. No I cant tell I've had surgery.

Lapband vs. bypass why do people feel the need to judge
SandyM replied to dolphintattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Absolutley! We have to accept at least a little......no really mroe than a little responsibility for our weight gain and subsequently ourweight loss. Naturally the surgeons would love to sell us more than one WLS. They will just keep getting richer and richer. Studies show the results are about the same at 5 years. I have a friend who had bypass and her daughter then her son then her husband had lapband. The 3 of them are doing great....she gained back about 80 percent of her weight back and consulted the surgeon about banding. He told her there is nothing wrong with her original stomach/surgery, she's just overfeeding it. We all know this could be our scenerio easily as well. -
I also agree. I have a friend who had her band done in mexico and then she couldnt find anybody to maintain it. She initially lost 80 lbs but without maintenace gained most of it back. She now has found a doctor in dallas that will fill her and I think shes doing better. The band without fills is like an innertube without air.....no good to you at all.

With my surgeon I go so many followups as part of the surgery. Check with your insurance person at the band doctors office.

I am officially banded!!
SandyM replied to Georgia_Peach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend that still has to take the gas x. I bought the strips. Havent needed them since 3 or 4 days after surgery. -
Seriously? Surely he can tell when he's in. If you heard a pop, it must be his entering the port. I access mediports all the time and you definitely know when youre in. When you get in, you hit a hard surface and needle wont go in any further. With the body, no so much. As for not filling anything, they say it takes 3 to 4 days so just relax, it'll probably come.
