I can tell somebody has been sitting at my computer and messing with my font size.

Ok, if you you chew well and take small bites, it should not hurt. At least I've never heard of this and I don't. As for broccolli, most with a band have problems with this one, so watch it, cuz it'll "hurt you". Sounds like what you are feeling is stuck sensation. Are you waking your band up in the morning with something hot? I start my day with 2 cups coffee and notice that in the evening I'm more likely to have stuck episodes than the morning and I think this is the reason. He is right about the pureeds and liquids. You can get way too many of them, known as "sliders" and cause you to actually gain weight. Remember your surgeon probably does not have a band therefore really cant know what you are feeling. My surgeon just blew my questions off and I believe he was truly uncomfortable with them. I ended up switching to his wife who is his partner. But you'll learn tons on this forum, I know I have. How much saline do you have in your band?

I'm not green and not sure I will even strive for it. I can eat an adequate portion but then I'm full and stop. I'm losing but I'm sure not as fast as if I were "green". I only have 2.5 in my band and even if I get another my surgeon is going very slowly.

Shes picked up alot of tools since getting the band. Exercise and portion size. Hopefully they will still help her.

At what point do insurers measure your 'official' BMI - pre-diet or post?
SandyM replied to shepette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue, I was on the border. Funny thing is it wasn't my weight that tipped the scales it was my height. I had been calling myself 5'3 cuz that was my height forever. Over years I shrunk like we all do as we age and my height rounded to 5'2 thus increasing my BMI enough to tip the scales...pun definitely intended -

advice for being prepared
SandyM replied to unbroken40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
gas x comes in a strip and they are easy to take. Lots of liquids. Miralax doesnt hurt either. Goes really good in morning coffee and from the sounds of it, nearly everybody seems to have the bowel issues after surgery. -
This forum is great. I've learned alot here. As for taking your life back, this is certainly a very good start.

I buy the Premier protein shakes from SAMs Club. They are delicious.

Five months after surgery......
SandyM replied to NJDad's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look marvelous. -
Surgery is never an easy decision. I felt like you do. I was getting heavier and heavier and I hated looking at myself in the mirror and cringed at the thought of buying clothes. Not to mention I was short of breath when walking and tieing my shoes. I took the plunge and am happy I did. I'm down 45 lbs so far and feel a whole lot better. I'm not in the green zone yet but the weight is gradually but definitely coming off.

I didnt like the thought of exercising either when I first started. Now I look forward to it. Esecially the feeling I have after I exercise. I like the thought of ramping it up every week. My doc told me today to change your pattern up a little each week to keep you body guessing therefore losing.

I'm So Glad I Didn't Get the Sleeve
SandyM replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a nurse. I have seen lots of patients with lots of complications from gastric bypass and from sleeve. The only problem I saw in.Hospital setting from band so far was a lady who became bulimic and tried to pass it off as something else. They had to remove her band because they thought the band was the problem, but it wasn't the problem at all. I know there are other problems that can come up but at least the band is reversible. I had a pt with dumping syndrome really bad then she developed chronic constipation. BM every 2 to 3 weeks. Doctors just scratched their heads. Said too much scar tissue. They even put her on hospice for a while. She's 50 and looks and acts 70. Skinny yes, but much more than that....just sayin -
I saw my doc today and discussed calories with her. She said no less than 1200 cal a day and work my way up from there. She even broke it down by proteins carbs and fats. Guess I'll give this a shot. She was very satisfied with my weight-loss so far. I got a 0.5cc fill.

I'm going to ask my doctor tomorrow for recommendations, but I was just wondering, how many calories you take in per day. I use iphone app "Lose it" and my settings are for 2 lbs a week and it suggests for my current weight 994 calories per day. I also work out but try not to reabsorb those calories. I was just wondering, is this enough calories? Am I over reaching? I started thinking this could account for slow weight loss. What do you guys think? On the other hand, I am losting 5 to 6 lbs a month,so thats not that bad, and since I'm not in the green zone yet. It is pretty much a constant diet.

Remember, you are in survival mode at this time due to reduced calorie. Spend more time concentrating on healing. Don't worry about the scales yet. Sometimes it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get the swelling down then you should start seeing some weight loss.

All I took with me was my gas strips and my bottle of liquid pain med. All I ended up needing was gas strips. Really, it depends if you have to spend the night, most don't. I wore home what I wore in. Just make sure its loose fitting clothes, not binding.

I think my metabolism has picked up quite a bit since I've been spending so much time at the gym. I'm going to try to increase my calories and hope it doesn't backfire on me.
