Why Did You Choose The Lap Band Vs. Gastric Bypass (Rny)
SandyM replied to Boobear7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I needed a tool. The band is a good one. But like with any tool it requires a qualified operator. I felt like the other surgeries were intended to be more "fixes", giving me less control which I need and need to learn to use to its fullest. Just me. -

Slow Progress & In Need Of Support & Ideas
SandyM replied to Mrs.Bales's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Frequent bouts of being stuck doesn't mean your band has correct restriction. I usually means too large a bite or eating too fast. I can get stuck on one bite. As stated, write it all down for a week then go back and look at it to see how you're doing. Write down every bite. Those tastes can add up. You should get full on about a cup of food. Avoid slider foods totally. They don't give you the full sensation and will pack on calories. Do some sort of activity even if its just taking a walk on your lunch break. Try replacing one of your Snacks with a bottle of flavored water. Myfitnesspal and Loseit are both good apps to help you with tracking if you are not already using one. Visit the forum every day and get words of encouragement and tips. It really does help. Studies show that people who join support groups lose 50 percent more weight. I've resolved to stay off the scales and follow the rules and just see how it goes. Sometimes I think the scales are less our friends that we think. -
Happy Thanksgiving and be careful over the holidays not to sabotage yourself.

I only told my husband, 2 of my children and my best friends X2. But 6 months out one of the girls I worked with told me she had gastric bypass and by the way, she is doing very well. I casually mentioned that I had lapband. Since then, I have not kept it a secret and I haven't received any negative response. I still don't regret keeping it hush hush for the 1st 3 months due to peoples tendency to judge. Especially if you work with a bunch of women like I do.

Surgery Is Monday And I Almost Backed Out Today
SandyM replied to finsmama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've never even heard these brought up before. Sounds like bandhaters. I love my band so far. I still have a few to lose, but at least I am losing it. Do whats right for you. But, if you research it, you have to learn how to filter, cuz you get good advise and bad. -

Too Slow For My Taste
SandyM replied to carole6836's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do it, but you have to want it. I hope you want it bad enough to do the work for it because it is going to take commitment, perseverance and will power. We will all support you, but nobody can do it for you. -
We actually had someone with a thread recently that this happened to. I sorta question the competence.

Popped Incision Open While Overexerting Myself

Hope you heal up fast. -
Yes, try to get your proteins from natural sources and if you need, use shakes. I do shakes for breakfast a lot. You'll stay fuller and crave less with more protein and less carbs

I think he might be saying he wants you to manage the quality and he will get the band to manage the quantity. That may be good, but til you get to green you will have to manage both.

I would prolly have mine there if I could have chosen

I haven't heard of too many doing weekly fills. I had my fill on Monday and I'm having regular foods today. I still feel I have to tread lightly cuz I'm in unchartered waters with this much Fluid in my band. If you don't feel ready for a fill when you go remember you can always tell your surgeon you want to skip one.

Wow, how did my font get so small?

Take miralax twice a day until you have a movement. Sometimes it can take 5 days. Also, my doctor told me to add a magnesium tab every day with my Vitamins. It seems to work. Also if you weren't really regular before surgery, you'll take more help since surgery, especially ef you are taking pain medications. They slow things down a lot.

Just start fresh. You got this.

Revision will be with Plication and have a few questions.
SandyM replied to Graceful One's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't had the band without plication as I got my plication with my band. I've been able to lose a lot of weight without any fills and finally started getting fills about 3 months ago. I probably could have very well lost all my weight with just the plication. I just feel it will be easier to maintain with the adjustments added. -
Also, look at what you are eating. Some of the foods on your list are already on a lot of peoples "do not eat list". None mine necessarily cuz so far I've been lucky enough to be able to tolerate most anything so far. chicken, I have a lot of problems with and have to make a dip for it. If the first bite doesn't go through, the next certainly won't. First try and see if you are eating small enough bites and making sure you are chewing well. And as Missy says, throwing up isn't good ever.

Dr. In My Area No Longer Does Lapband. Ugh!
SandyM replied to Essence33's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had appt with surgeon yesterday and asked if he was going to stay in lapbanding and he said he still prefers it over all WLS. He said that the aftercare people seek and receive after banding is the very thing that skews it's success rate. He said if people were more compliant and surgeons were more on top of it, the numbers would show a lot better. He also said his wife and partner attended a WLS conference last week and surgeons there were saying they are seeing a lot more sleeve issues than in the past. After all, it's still pretty new. And like he said, what do you do about it after it's gone?
