Awakening the Beast Inside
SandyM replied to Leepers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This called bandster hell. You're going to need a lot of self control. Unfortunately this is easier said than done. Once you start getting fills this improves and even almost goes away. What I suggest for "head hunger" is drink unsweetened, non-carbonated drinKs. If it's not sugar your body is begging for, you might do broth. I find that diet hot chocolate or diet apple cider works for me. -
Getting my first fill tomorrow - Excited and Nervous!
SandyM replied to Sherbear430's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It will get better after a few fills but it is gradual and be grateful for that because it takes time to learn to eat with a restricted band. Each fill, I've had to adjust how I eat a little more. As for tips, just follow your drs orders. My fills are pretty in eventful. Go in, get weighed, fill out a little questioneer, dr asks me a few questions gives me my fill has me drink and I'm done. Small pinch with fill. Some use fluoroscopy and also deaden, mine does neither. But he relies completely on what I tell him, so honesty is truly important to get my fills right. -
Desperate! Serious complication. Need advice.
SandyM replied to miss_cherry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Agree with the above. First take care of the problem of the port. Then if it was me I would at least consider a new WLS. No competition here, we do what's best for us each individually. -
That is 2+ weeks. You should be pretty much healed by now

Previous sleeve patient making me nervous about post-surgery
SandyM replied to betty_s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any of the WLS can cause you problems if you don't follow the instructions. As for what you can eat, everyone is different. I can eat most anything if I eat slowly and chew well. If I hurry, even slider foods can cause me problems. It takes some time to get the proper adjustment, but it'll get there. Try to avoid negative people and do your research. They'll just make the trip harder for you. Just because her surgery failed, or she failed her surgery, doesn't mean its got to be your story too. Go ahead and get use to drinking plenty of Water and try giving up your sodas. Also, get use to not drinking through a straw. Some can, but most surgeons advise against it. My surgeon said it would cause excess gas and I forgot once in the early stages and believe me, I won't do that again. -

Well, I haven't fallen off the wagon, but I do understand that it can happen to anyone. Important thing is you've decided to get back up and get back on track. You can do it and this board, as you already know is a good motivator. I have somewhere around the same amount of weight that you do to lose and I'd be glad to be in your stands. I know how hard it is to fight the junk food devil. But you got this. Have you had your restriction checked by your surgeon? -
When do u start to feel normal again
SandyM replied to JennieT311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Friday, went back to work on Monday, but didn't feel normal until around Thursday of Friday of week after banding. Then it wasn't totally normal, but very doable. It just takes time. Theres lots of swelling and bruising that just has to run its coarse. -
Agree and welcome back CG

Good luck and keep us posted

I think it just means we are all different. I keep hearing that the band isn't a tool, but for me, I still believe it is just that. If it's working properly and used properly, it will help me lose weight. I could sit and eat a sleeve of choc chip ahoys dipped in milk, hungry or not, and they would slide right through. I certainly wouldn't lose weight that way. I believe some people are more foodsaholics when it comes to sweets. I personally can't touch them and I know it. If I eat one, the cravings start. For that reason I try to avoid simple carbs.

So, where do I but spaghetti squash?
-
You'll do fine. Just remember, this is still valuable time with your weight loss. I just hit green 2 weeks ago, so 56 lbs were lost before then. Think where I'd be right now had I waited to lose til I got green. It's just a diet right now for you but a needed time to learn to eat Ike you have a tight band.
-
I do the gummy womens multi Vitamins, gummy B complex and the gummy calciums. They are my daily "candy".
-
Are you eating a lot of protein on those days that you are not feeling earlier satisfaction? If I eat less protein and more carbs, I can be that way too. If you don't know if you need a fill or not, you sound pretty close to green.

I read that people with the sleeve have a tendency to have a lot of heartburn. Being that I had a hiatal hernia which was repaired during banding, and I lived with reflux/GERD for over 10 years, this was something I wanted to get away from almost as much as the extra pounds. I also had plication which is a modified version of the sleeve (they don't cut the stomach away, just stitch it). So, I feel I got the best of both worlds. Like somebody said, 2 tools instead of 1.

think i'm close to green, could use some feedback!

Think PROTEIN. Maybe add a light greek yogurt -
Hello Everyone! What's your diet consist of?
SandyM replied to WshfullyShrnkng's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yep, boring eater here too. Thing is, food doesn't interest me as much as it use to. I use to look forward to my meals and now, not so much. I make sure I get my 60 gms of Protein even if I have to finish the day off with a lite greek yogurt or a Protein shake. I try to get my Water in, though I'm having to learn to like it as well. I was a starch eater before and think it was my biggest problem. Funny how our taste buds change. -
no weight loss after 2nd fill
SandyM replied to jenwebber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And, this is absolutely correct. The band will help the hunger, not necessarily the calorie intake if you are having head hunger and responding to it. -
no weight loss after 2nd fill
SandyM replied to jenwebber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you tracking every bite? Its easy to overeat and not even notice it. MPF is a great app and there are others. -
sickness bug- could it damage band

Vomiting is not good and from what I understand can cause a slip. Are you done vomiting? -
And you can. I too know some people with every one of the WLS who have failed. I also know that they are not me. I wanted the weight off and was willing to do the work and spend the time. I have a friend who had gastric bypass and her husband son and daughter have had bands. Her family is all doing great, her, not so much. She actually went to their (our) doctor and asked to be banded and he told her that her surgery was fine, she was just not working it properly. Don't let others do this to you. Chances are, she doesn't want your to have the surgery be because you will be thinner than she is. I notice this is a trend. Do what you have to do for yourself and there will be no regrets.
