SATIETY 101: Satiety & The Restriction Myth
SandyM replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Wow! If some people would read this maybe they would stop sending the message to brand new bandsters that all they have to do is get their band really tight and sit back and get skinny. This is such a great article. I'm glad I'm not alone in believing that the band is a "tool". -
Everybody is different. I can eat chicken, but I have to be really careful with it. But, I also can eat bread and some cant
-
I did and I believe it has been a benefit. No bandster he'll. I prob could have lost most of my weight without fills but have had them which has made weight loss more effective. My doctor says slips less likely too
-
It's what banders experience before getting to the green zone where they can't seem to get satisfied. Constant hunger.
-
Actually the exercises I speak of are for toning and tightening to help with the gobble neck
-
The sticking and sliming are band restriction related only. If you don't have fills, the plication is doing all of the work and that's great. I have had fills and have had a few stuck and sliming episodes. But, my band isn't as tight as I hear some have. I still eat bread and meat. In fact, I retrospect, I don't think my stuck episodes are that at all, as much as eating more than I should, after all my stomach is smaller now. I've learned not to do that now. Plus, with plication, I didn't experience the bandster hell I've heard spoken of. Plus, once I lose I may have most of my Fluid removed and see if I can maintain with plication alone.

I just hope you are not exchanging your health for some lbs. you can have both, but it does take some work and patience on our parts. You can still make better choices even if your band is on the tighter side such as tuna and chicken salad, not ice cream and Pringles. I have read the posts you speak of and see where they can be misleading, but the fact is, we do have to find a way to eat clean. we are where we are because of these bad habits with junk food.
-
Yes, maybe erosion. Corrosion has to do with metal and our bands are not.
-
Just gonna say it, your fixation on food made it easier to go back to smoking, but I don't think the band had anything to do with it. I'll never start back. I know this because to start back I have to make the conscious decision to smoke the 1st one. I did that once thinking I had control, til I went to quit again and realized I had less control than I thought. Not again.

Have you gone to youtube and looked up neck and face exercises. That would help some

Yes, now you will need to start reading the nutrition labels. After awhile you just kind of get it. Also you'll develop your go to food list. I think we all have one -
Absolutely no issues whatsoever! All is going well.

Giving up meat is not the end of the world
SandyM replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vomiting may cause your band to slip. It is expected that some meats might give you problems, but if you are vomiting after each bite, even if you chew well and take small bites, you may be too tight. This will lead to problems, one of which would be eating sliders instead of good foods. Can you eat fish? -
horrible couple of weeks

If you can't get good foods down you are too tight. This will cause you to gain not lose. -
How I cheated my band but found my way back (sorry kind of long)

Eight Weeks Out and a New Year!

Happy New Years Bandista. -
Great feeling. I'm at the same exact place as of Sunday. 60 lbs down, 29.8 bmi. Even though the ticker doesn't accept my decimals.
-
I didn't convert, I started out with this. I have no experience with the band alone, but best I can tell by reading, I didn't get the bandster hell spoken of. Before I started getting fills, I did get the full feeling like before banding, just a lot sooner, therefore, I started losing weight nicely. I feel once I've reached goal, if my band had to be removed for whatever reason, I could just have the plication and possibly do ok with it. Hope I don't have to test that theory though.

My knees are wore out so I can't do this, but if I could I would look into the couch to 5k app. Important thing with exercise is set a specific plan i.e. time, duration etc. as for the snacks...yes, very important to have a plan...more important is try to make your eating at meals and try to get out of habit of snacking period. The add up fast and pretty soon, you aren't eating meals at all, just grazing. You won't get the feelings of fullness that you need that way. This is just my opinion and you will get other feedback, much that will differ from mine. We all develop our own ways of making this work for us.

Start now. You are human. Figure out what you are doing wrong and ways to correct it and get back on track. You got this. -

Lol, hubby and I ate at Applebees the other night and the waitress kept coming by asking if I would like a take out container. I was just a bit annoyed. I finally told her I wanted to eat my food there and she left me alone...at least until she offered desert. You should have seen the look of relief when we declined.
