Have stopped losing weight - any tips for plateaus...
SandyM replied to intelirish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Agree with the above. Also drink lots of Water and make sure you are journaling properly. I stated checking mine slower and I was sneaking in 100+ calories a day with coffee creamer, chewable Vitamins etc. When I got honest with my journaling and dropped my calorie intake to a low rate, the weight started coming off. As said above, mix it up. I do something til I stop losing then I start trying other things and get the weight loss started again. And, if you're getting hungry before 4 hours, a fill is definitely in order. -
Not sure if my port flipped? Dislocated? ANYONE? HELP!

What you must understand about these little ports are they have very small tubes and when pulling the saline out, it's very easy to get an air lock (bubble) and think you have it all and there be some residual left in. My surgeon removed all of mine on day 4 due to way too much stomach swelling. She put in 2cc on my next visit. Next one after that, she put in 1/2 cc. Next visit was able to draw out 4cc. Thing is when she drew it all out, she hit an airlock and thought it was all out and it wasn't. Main thing is it works. And I asked my surgeon about the need to know amt in ER and he said not necessary at all. He said ER doc would draw it all out and let him take care of it on next visit. Like he pointed out, if ER doc only took out 1/2 cc and you still had problems it would cost you another ER visit. Makes sense to me.

Every doc does it differently. I've heard it done this way but not that often. I'm super cautious after every fill because each time, it's unchartered waters. I'm sure your next fills will be much smaller.

I'm not a vet yet, but I am down 65lbs in 8 months. I'm working on being at goal by my bandiversary in May. You got this. One day at a time. It's a journey not a trip. 1-2 lbs a week and you get there.

Mine just asks me the question and gives me a fill of 0.5 unless I ask them to go smaller. Fortunately, I'm in the green and won't have to deal with it for a while.

I watched the biggest loser once. It was a woman, but her husband got on board and lost a lot of weight too and both were able to have the skin surgeries. What I couldn't figure out was the woman kept talking about how her husband was doing so good and was exercising 10 to 12 hours a day and she could if she wanted to but wasn't inspired. Seriously? Do these people not have to work or something? I have to tac my gym visit to the end of my work day and not get home until 8pm at night. I know you're not supposed to eat late, but I wouldn't get to eat at all if I didn't. So, no I don't watch it. Im too jealous.

Girl, its a journey not a trip. Enjoy it all.

Everything I've read says you only burn calories while you run, walk, cardio, but if you do resistence training of some sort, you continue to burn calories for nearly 36 hours. I believe cardio is still very important, but I think resistence is absolutely necessary. -
Just joined and wanted to introduce myself

I had my plication with my band in May. Surgeon didn't say anything about clinical trial. Nearly all of his bands are with plication. -
It will be here before you know it

5 months post-op on January 27th!

Wow you look great. Bet you fee that way too. -
Considering you will likely need shakes postop too, it is a good idea to find what your dr prefers now. Mine gave me several options then told me that as long as shakes met certain criteria they were ok. That have me room to sample. Doesn't hurt to ask
-
Just make sure your coordinator knows what your cutoff is for your deductible so they can schedule you and get your approval in on time

Revision will be with Plication and have a few questions.

Did you notice you didn't experience the "bandster hell" they speak of here? -
What you ladies are experiencing is bandster hell. This is common until you've had a few fills. This is a time for healing and not to focus in weight loss. Some will Lise during this time but many don't.stay hydrated.
-
I do the EAS but prefer premier protein from SAMS club
-
How many fills have you had?
-
My port is right between my lower ribs. I can feel the rim of my port easily. My doc does a blind access and has no problem. I access mediports all of the time and really, it's not complicated. I've never missed one even an infant port which is much smaller than ours.
-
Also, when you get a fill, often A little irritation will occur causing a slight swelling. This is Just the bodies protective response. When the swelling is gone, your fill will settled and sometimes this can take weeks to happen.

Had a false image of what the band is supposed to do

Everyone is different but you are correct. Not everyone vomits nor should they. I think I have twice. If you are careful when you eat, chew well, take appropriate sized bites and have a properly (not too tight)band, vomiting will be a rarity. I can eat almost anything though there are something's I haven't and won't try. For instance, I eat whole grain breads and avoid white doughy bread and haven't got the nerve yet to try steak. I do potatoes but not rice. You will figure it out as you go and do fine. But the point I'm trying to make is vomiting isn't normal. -
Same here

I hated water. Refused to drink it at first. But I've been drinking it for a little over a year (started out to save me money when I ate out) now I actually don't mind it. Think even starting to like it some.
