    Little restriction with solids

It's funny how that happens. This morning eating breakfast I had taken about 4 bites. Something told me I was done. My thought was " I may regret this, but I want one bite of my buttered toast". I spent 30 minutes sliming and regretting. Should have listened to that little voice.
  2. I'm sorry to hear about your complications. As pointed out, complications can and do happen with every type of surgery. The person I mentioned above in my post had a gastric bypass and now has telescoping bowel. I read up on it and find that it's more common than they originally thought. I took care of a lady on hospice that had so much scar tissue that it was strangulating her bowel and the more they cut on her to fix it, the worse it got. I knew the risks going in and I still am happy with my decision. My surgeon says the risk of bowel spillage with the sleeve are much greater due to the cutting.

I keep taking my CPAP off in my sleep

Probably not getting a good seal due to your wt loss. I believe I'd ask for a new sleep study to see if it's still needed.
  4. Lol, the band is a plastic or silicone material, so no metal detectors. You will be able to feel the port through your skin and the smaller I get, the more I notice though it's not bad. I kind of touch it and it gives me a secure feeling. A lot of us have named ours and I've recently renamed mine Simon as in "Simon says" cuz I get a lot of guidance from my band.
  5. Drink, drink and then drink some more. Be sure and get your Protein and also make sure you have a little fat in there as this helps with the hunger pangs. When do you get your first fill?

    Double Minded /Confused

As said above, any surgery has complication risks. I work with a girl who had GB and I'm watching her put her weight back on. Could it happen to me post band? Of course, if I don't follow the band rules. I didn't expect a quick fix, but this was the least invasive of the surgeries and I'm glad I took the leap.

    In my way

You'll do great. I remember starting out and it moved pretty fast. Keep us posed how you're doing.
  8. I don't know why surgeons tell you that, when really, how much you lose is up to you and individual. I'm 5'2 and started at 224.6. I've dropped 68 lbs so far. I would be truly disappointed too if my surgeon had given me a high weight and told me not to expect to lose more. I still plan to lose 18 lbs.
  9. How do you know how big your stomach is?

    I think i hit green!

What they are saying is sometimes it takes as much as a month for your body to make its adjustments. You may be in the green and at least for now you are getting the benefits of it. After the fill has settled down, you will know if it's truly green or you need another fill. Take it nice and slow til then.

    Straws?

I did have problems early I ( I actually forgot and used a straw) it caused me to slime real bad. I think I must have sucked in a lot of air. Since then I've used one without probs

    Got completely deflated today

No précis ting condition, but definitely waited to long. People don't realize though how quick they can get in trouble respiratory wise. I've taken care of more than a few medical emergencies between ICU and ER (I've worked both) that started as dental.

    Got completely deflated today

Wow, be careful with that. I've seen people who've had to be put on the vent to help them breathe because of accessed tooth.

    Considering the Lapband..

Probably everyone of us have felt what you are feeling. I thought I would grieve the loss of sodas and sweets, and I did a little but not that much. It's really moved pretty fast and I'm 19 lbs from goal. I'm healthier than I've been in a long time. I've learned to enjoy water, which I use to hate. But what I enjoy most is smaller clothes and my increased energy level. I have a box of chocolates in the freezer and no desire for them.
  17. I agree that all surgeries have their risks. Something to remember here is that with any surgery, complications aren't always immediate or just within the healing phase. I've been a nurse for 22 years and have seen this to be true. My surgeon and I discussed this and I feel confident in his skills as I knew his reputation long before my surgery. You are correct that it also depends on the surgeons technique which can also have ramifications long after surgery....with any surgery. But, a lot depend on how your own body handles things. Ulcers are an example of one thing that seems to have nothing to do with surgery at all, but if it happens in the seam line of the incision...yes can eat right through. But, it can happen anywhere in the stomach and do the same thing. You can also have necrosis and scar tissue buildup at any surgery site. I had a pt who had bypass 8 years ago put on hospice 2 years ado because her scar tissue went wild and started strangulating everything in their path. Is this a reason to not have the surgery? It is certainly a risk to be considered when making ones decision. I have also said before and will say it again...the reason we see the worse case scenarios here is because those with problems search out answers and come to these forums to get answers and verbalized concerns. Those without move on and live their lives. I'm here for the support with my weight loss and eventually will drift away myself when I no longer that. But, like others here, if I do have problems, I'll be back too.
  18. JUST THROWING THIS OUT THERE. If the plications busts a stitch, nothing can leak out because there is no cutting. If the sleeve busts a staple , bowel can leak into the peritoneal cavity and cause sepsis and even death. I discussed this with my surgeon long and hard before getting the plications. I'm a nurse and can tell you right fast, I've seen results of bowel in the abd. Just sayin....
  19. Yep, I'd get a fill before it gets out of hand. You've come too far.
  20. ITS A JOURNEY, NOT A TRIP!!!

  21. First consider that with the band and its 12% reoperation rate, at least you can have a reoperation as you still have all your parts. With the bypass its only 3%, but what ya gonna do, it's all gone. The sleeve, 9%....same thing. Also, I questions whether this 12% includes folks that gave up on the band for whatever reason and decided another WLS would have done them better and had revision. We do see a lot of that here. 3rd, I don't like the words "mortaility" associated with the other 2 surgeries that's just thrown around so loosely. I think the band is still the safest surgery of the 3 mentioned. The weight loss may take a little more work, may be slower, but you get there still if you put it in to it. If you visit the other sites, and I don't much, you hear the same story from their folks wanting to know why they plateaued, why they haven't lost what they feel they should etc. And we all know folks from all of the WLSs that have failed in their weight loss. At least I do.

    Little Worried

But remember, the amount of ccs in her band has nothing to do with you or yours. Some here get in the green with no fills, some get 2 or 3 fills and some get upwards of 6 or 7. It all depends on your body. I have 5.5 in mine and if I had 7 I wouldn't be able to swallow Water. Just sayin....
  23. Most of us would have killed for short notice.
