Governor Chris Christie and the Lap-Band
SandyM replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Everyone loses at a different rate. 100 lbs in a year is great no matter what type of surgery you had. That's 2 lbs a week, more than that, you're probably losing muscle mass -
I believe you'll level off if you don't, add more calories
-
I would say call your surgeon and maybe get checked. We also can't just assume that everything is band related.

I love my band, haven't had any complications, but if I had to do it again or have a redo, I'd definitely consider the sleeve. The bypass? Not a chance. As a nurse in hospital and later in home health and hospice I've seen some ugly by products of the bypass. In all of those cases, pts were either very heavy and malnourished or 80 lbs or so and malnourished. And the problems they has were nearly always irreversible. Another thing I've read recently is that intussusception is more common in bypass than originally known or reported. That alone would be enough to stop me.

I agree with carb cycling

Min 60, no maximum. I usually do one shake a day, the test is real food

Embarrassed by My Six Year Old

Lol. Now that you've lost weight and can reach your feet, you can buy the ones that tie again. Not as likely to fall off. -
Need a fake surgery, dont want the little league moms to know
SandyM replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I told the people I wAnted to know and the ones I didn't, I told them my back was out. Wasn't untrue as my back did go out being pulled from stretcher to OR table or somewhere in between. Since my back had a bad habit of that, no one questioned it. Plus, my coworkers gave me the due consideration with pt assignments during the initial healing phase. Just something we do. -
Has Your Spouse Benefitted From Your WLS?
SandyM replied to HealthyNewMe's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My husband was about 45 lbs overweight. Wore most of it around his belly. He's a solid 32 pants now. Lost 35 so far and is working on the last 5. His biggest motivation is daughter is getting married in June and he will walk her down the isle. His only suit was way to tight and I told Hume he would walk buff before we were spending money on a suit to hang in the closet. He tried the suit on and viola! He said the other 5 lbs will make it hang better and I agree. He brags that with my surgery we got a twofer. Now I just wish I could show him what sliming feels like:) -
I work in a clinic now and have to weigh my pts as they come in. I see ladies everyday that weigh around what I did. I'm amazed at how big I was. I didn't have a full length mirror or allow many pics. Now I do and can't believe how far I've come. When I say my weight, I find myself slipping and saying 174 instead of 154. Just not convinced that it's my true wt yet? Guess I haven't totally accepted it.

How to Stop Losing...I'm as low as I want to go.
SandyM replied to PrettyThick1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I like my band on the looser side of green, so I believe maintenance will settle in ok. Right now, I journal my diet and exercise and that's what I'm looking forward to being freed from. I hope it's possible. -
If you're ready for scrambled eggs fine, if not, stick to liquids. Like you, I had a very large hiatel hernia. I had to have all of my fluids removed on day 4 too. The swelling went down after that and I was able to move into the food stages. Greek yogurt is a little thick still. Can you thin it?
-
I actually have sliming episodes every 3 to 4 weeks, but have only pb'd maybe 3 times since being banded. My food usually passes thru, just takes time.

My computer is down, so all I have is iphone

Lost my mojo. Can you help me find it?
SandyM replied to kristallynn13's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I guess I don't understand if the band was so successful when you were working with it, why the discussion of a different WLS. All WLS will fail if you give up on them. I know people with GB that have inquired about banding their bypass. I work with a lady who had GB and advised me not to get rid of my big clothes. She said she did and now that she's starting to gain she would like to have them back. -
I asked my doc that and he said new data shows it really doesn't seem to make a difference. I use to not, but now I do.
-
It's when you eat too fast or don't chew well and food won't pass thru the band and you make so much saliva that you find yourself having to spit it out cuz it won't pass either.

Bless your heart. Yes, taking is very slow once close is very important. My doctor asked me if I thought I needed a fill today, though he was a bit apprehensive about. I declined and said I wanted to see how it went til next appt. I think I'm pretty much in the green, but probably right next to the yellow border of it. I could probably use a tweak, but we'll see.

Be the pt for now. Leave the nursing behind. Its very easy to believe we know whats best when this is as "greek" to us as it is to everyone else, even as nurses. My mother was a dietician and I was still a fat person. I knew the rules, just didn't know how to apply them. You'll do great. Come back and let us know how it all went once you feel like it.

I know. Alot of people make alot of nothing really. Now you have that behind you.

I do 3 meals and 1 snack. My surgeon orginally said 3 meals and no Snacks, but recanted when we talked and he told me that 4 hours is too long to go without having something. He said he likes 3 to 4 hours hunger free. Well, do the math and if you get up at 6 and stay up til 10p, every 3 to 4 hours does't work well.
