Congratulations. Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. If you've been reading on here and I'm sure you have, I'm sure you've discovered that the 1st month is a healing time and that you may feel restriction right now but that is due to the swelling and the real restriction will begin with the fills. Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Recovery Time - Band vs Bypass
SandyM replied to Kahuna's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the band on Friday and went back to work on Monday. I had hiatel hernia repaired as well as plication. So, it's very doable. Love how you ask a question about one tiny thing and get comments about which decision to make. Anyway, if you're not in a run you arse off job, you should do fine with a weekend recovery if you do the band. I can't vouch for the other surgeries. PS.....I love my band too. -

I feel like the scale is lying to me!
SandyM replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
CG is right about the scales, and yes many of us, me included are scale addicts. I'm doing a march challenge with hubby which includes but is not limited to weekly measurements and weights and no more frequently. What I'm already discovering is I'm getting as excited as a kid at Christmas to see the end results. What I find about weighing everyday is I tend to reward myself (with food) when I do well and punish myself (with food) when I don't. THAT is the cycle that got me where I am and that I need to break. I bought myself a pair of nice jeans in the next smaller size. I can get them zipped but they are way to tight to be comfortable. That is my end of March goal. I also have the measurements to look at instead of the weight. I feel kind of like I'm detoxing. I have my weight goals, I'm just trying to out other goals into play. I think they will be a lot more rewarding. -
You know the old saying "how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time". Good to see you thinking about that last 30 lbs. set some small achievable goals and work hard to achieve them. Good luck.

I know right? My doctor says the band has gotten a bad rap and it's a combination between noncompliant bandsters, people looking for an immediate fix and not finding it and doctors who don't want to bother with the educating and upkeep. He says he still thinks the band is the best tool available but there are a lot out there with the sleeve-and-leave-it attitude. He also said that it was surprising how many sleeves and bypass recipients come to him asking if the band will help them because their surgery hasn't worked like they thought it would. Go figure. -
At what point did you start counting your weight loss?
SandyM replied to JanaAZ's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I count all of it cuz it's gone:) -
As your weight decreases so do your caloric needs. Kinda balances itself out

If my memory serves me right I lost around 17 preop. I didn't cheat either

This is true. It's just the mantra that's spewed by surgeons who try to sell their personal choice of surgery. If you say something enough people will believe it. -
Only problem is it's full of sugar and those calories will add up pretty fast. Guess as long as you factor it in, you'll be ok. But, things like that really throw me off track and make me crave more sweets.

When was you banded and how much u lost?
SandyM replied to destinyford's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi destiny. March 10th will be 10 months and I'm down 70 lbs. got to admit the last month has been slow, but that's ok, I still have so much to be grateful for. -
I know that once you get off track it's have to get restarted. I suggest you figure out a way to kick start your weight loss. Of course you'll need to get your fills back in control, set some reasonable goals and hold yourself to them. You might start by going all the way back to the basics and start all over. The are suggestions only. My Main advice is "forgive yourself, but make no excuses". The band has and will help you, but ultimately, it's you and only you who will get the job done. My new motto is "focus on today. Today is a that matters. Tomorrow will take care of itself". If you do what you're supposed to do today, you will be successful tomorrow. Good luck.

SandyM replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgeons only do lapbands. They are both very good surgeons, I knew them when the were general surgeons, so the could do the other surgeries. I asked my surgeon if he would eventually integrate the others and he said he still likes the band. Seriously, we all are here because we needed help controlling our food obsessions. Regardless which WLS we chose, none of us can claim righteousness. As for the argument of how much somebody should lose in a given period of time, this is an individual journey for each of us. -

So, how many of these surgeons do you actually talk to? -
The only thing you've said that concerns me is the sore throat. I wonder what that's all about.

What Was Your Ah-Ha (Or Oh Crap) Moment?
SandyM replied to SoccerMomma73's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't allow pictures. My friend took one of me secretly to show on her phone when I called. Funny thing is, it's still on there and she makes me call her just so she can show people the difference between then and now. I love it, serves as a reminder of how far I've come. -
Just curious about stomach growling with the band
SandyM replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine sometimes growls, but I notice it more after carbs...I'm thinking gas. I really don't feel hunger when it happens -

Ok , let me start by saying, I don't like the guy politically, but no, my feelings are not party affiliated. That being said, I'm still glad he's doing well. To say that he only want to lose so he can be president is kind of an over assumption. All of us hAve our reasons, but in the end we all want to be thinner and healthier. Everyone acts amazed that people with bands lose so well. With any surgery it depends on what you are willing to put into it -
