I'm not insulted by my 6 year old granddaughter who told me (around my starting point) that I had a fat little belly just like Santa Claus or my old grandma that told me (before I was even overweight but felt I was) that I had a good figure because I had wide birthing hips. Sometimes I think people mean well, but don't know how to express themselves. I hope thats the case. Even knowing where the subject has been, I still find its easy to slip into that judgemental mode. I work constantly on not being so quick to assume that everyone that is riding in wheelchair basket at Walmart who is morbidly obese is that way because they choose to ride in the carts and not walk. I tore my miniscus about 2 years ago and though it killed me to walk, I refused to ride in the cart because I felt people would judge me cuz I was overweight.

Book on self sabotaging
SandyM replied to melanndoll's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lol, I could probably write that book. I will tell you, if you are self sabatoging because of what the scales say, try staying away from them and see if it helps. -
Absolutely as said. It's not always the same foods. Most of the time with me, it's more the how and not the what. If I'm very careful, it doesn't happen. But like 2muchfun said, if I get the sense that its about to happen, I pause and let it pass. Sometimes, I take it as an omen and sometimes I feel I can continue to eat after it passes. It just depends. on what it is I've eaten and if I've eaten it before.

I'd love to try it, but my knees are too bad. I'm sure it'll get easier with conditioning.

I have gotten stuck once on cake. It really took me by surprise. I try not to eat it, but if I do, I'm careful.

How is it possible to eat 60-70 grams of protein ?!
SandyM replied to SecretBander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do 80 to 90. I always have my Protein bar for breakfast and get 30 gm there. I try to make my protein primary for my meals and occasionally I don't make it much past 60, but most days I do. Good lean chicken or tuna will get you there pretty easily. -
My hubby bought me a lamb skin knee length coat with hood bordered in fox. I absolutely loved it but only got to wear it twice before winter ended. That was 10 years ago. I outgrew it but didn't have the heart to get rid of it. This year, I have actually worn it all winter. You look great. Enjoy the coat and enjoy your new life.

Port wound not healing completely?
SandyM replied to Atomic kitten's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcome. Good luck with your wt loss. I understand that it is the size of a pin prick, but it could be larger inside. -
Yes, I almost convinced myself to postpone my surgery until I tried at least one more diet. I'm so glad I didn't. I started working on it as soon as I found out my insurance covered WLS. I have no regrets.
-
I usually try to get mine scheduled in the early morning and have just my morning coffee. I have a Protein shake a little afterwards.

Random. Just curious, people! How old are you? 55 What surgery did you have? Lapband Male or female? female How much weight did you lose? 70 lbs How fast did you lose your weight? 10 months and still going If you are female and didn't have cosmeticr surgery, are you comfortable enough to go to the beach in a bikini? Not really a bikini person, never was, but no still too much loose skin for that even if I was. How much loose skin do you have? Mostly on my lower tummy and thighs. Some on my upper arms.

Port wound not healing completely?
SandyM replied to Atomic kitten's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What does your surgeon say? That wound should be totally healed by now. -
Lol. I've noticed the same thing.
-
Give it the recommended amount of time. It will be worth it.

Sandy..... You and I are BIRTHDAY TWINS.... I was thinking the same thing when I read the March 7 date. Your March 7 date is sort of like a REBIRTH in to a whole new healthy life. Best wishes! Happy Birthday!!!
-
Hmmmmm! Gotta try this.
-
You had your band placed on my birthday. At 10 months out, on my birthday I was down 70 lbs. Let me just tell you, it's been a wonderful trip as I hope it will be for you. There will be times you will get a little discouraged, just stick with this forum and there will be those here to help you through it. Congratulations.
-
Doesn't it feel great. Nows about the time you start seeing the clothes size start changing.
-
Congratulations. I think we all have the same fear of whether we will be able to maintain. I will say, I have had my band for 10 months and my whole perspective of food has changed. I'm not there yet, I'm still a fat person in a slimmer body. But, I expect with more hard work I will get there. You will too. Just keep your eyes straight ahead.

Don't forget to take your measurements!
SandyM replied to Bandista's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I wish I had done this in the beginning. I finally did do some measurements last Saturday, but I'll never know how many inches I truly lost from the beginning. But you're right, the scales aren't always going to be a reliable source to gage your weight loss too. -
you should definitely view it closely as I understand reflux with sleeve is very common, my surgeon says due to the removal of the fundus of the stomach.

I am doing this to help me become fertile. Anyone else ?
SandyM replied to Tia Payton's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Lol, not me. But, I do work at a prenatal clinic and have a few pts who have managed to become pregnant after years of trying but only after losing weight. Good luck. -
I've been taking thyroid meds for 20 years, never changed my diet whatsoever and my levels are fine

Everybody you talk to could have a different amount in their band and its sheer coincidence that each of these 3 folks have 6 cc. I'm not even sure what I have. When I was reading your post, the first thing I noticed is the "big bite of chicken". This is a good time to change habits as theres nothing worse than a stuck piece of that chicken. Getting stuck doesn't necessarily warn you that you are at or near the green zone. It usually means you are either taking too large a bite, not chewing well or eating too fast. That's my experience anyway.
