Drinking while eating
SandyM replied to Heather CJJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is mixed review about this. Some say their surgeon says it doesn't matter. I got off the mark and tried it for a while and it definitely slowed my weight loss down. Its more of habit than anything. I get Water with my meal, cuz I find it freaks the person selling you the food out if you don't want anything to drink. I always get it in disposable cup and I take it with me. I drink up to the time I eat and wait 30 minutes after before drinking. Water goes staight through and my surgeon says if you drink before you eat, it doen't change anything, its the after he doesn't want me to do. I find I get full faster if I don't drink and eat together. -
Many of us use MFP. Lose-it is also a good one and Eat Slower to help you slow down between bites.

I've had them all and don't have any problems.

Yesterday, I had to go to Dallas, Texas. I worked at Baylor Hospital for 5 years and have been gone for about that long. I had left there heavy and gained 50 lbs after leaving. I've been to Dallas a few times but refused to stop in and say hello to my old coworkers because I didn't want to show up there 50 lbs heavier than they remembered me. Yesterday, I decided to stop in and see them. I caught 7 or 8 of my old coworkers. The first words out of each of their mouths were, You look great, you've lost weight. Except one......she said "you're taller now". Lol. I don't think so, but I'll take it. To think, I use to duck behind the clothes racks in the stores if I saw somebody I didn't want to confront...not any more. I'm loving this. -
A girl I work with told me our insurance will pay for tummy tuck if doctor documents chafing or other issues due to excess skin. I think it doesn't matter if you are male or female, if the excess skin bothers you, get it fixed. Guess you'l have to watch your weight loss and see if you bounce back into shape ok and even need it. I've lost 76 lbs and though I'm certainly not perfect, I'm not as bad as I thought I would be and won't consider surgery. Until then, find some workout clothes that will help control it so you aren't self concious.

My love for food---Hopeing it changes!
SandyM replied to Time4Kindness's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I still love food, I just find it easier to make choices. Yesterday, we were on the road and I had made up my mind I was going to stop at Braums and have a butter pecan ice cream cone. Never mind that I had some brisket from lunch left over that I had not been able to eat. I was forty miles from the town where Braums was and in that distance I scolded myself just a little for being willing to throw caution to the wind so easily and praised myself on how proud of myself I was for having lost so well and ended up eating my brisket instead. Didn't even want the ice cream after that. I was so proud of myself. You won't necessarily lose your love for food, but who wants to? -

You are close to the weight I was when I started. I'm so happy I got this done and you will be too. As stated, walk, walk, walk. Drink, drink, drink. The weight will be gone before you know it:). And.....Happy Birthday!!!! -

Yes, but a different normal. Now I eat to live and not live to eat. I hate how I felt after over indulging and could hardly breathe, even with my pants unbuttoned. I love my new life...wish I had discovered it earlier.

Gross Question - You've Been Warned
SandyM replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Try some guifenisen with 8-10 oz of water and see if it thins your secretions. Sinus drainage can be pretty thick. If it's not just sinus drainage it won't hurt you. -

Question about preop liquid diet
SandyM replied to lecouch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

This may be a TMI question, but OMG I am so constipated !
SandyM replied to Cindi2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When that sensation starts, I add miralax to my morning coffee. At first it took 5 days to work but I was good after that. Also., increase your water. I take it you are on liquids. So why do people say liquid in, liquid out? -
You'll have your highs and lows. Don't let others get you down, set yourself a few small goals and focus on them. Before you know it you'll start seeing the progress in your clothes and on the scales. Don't forget water and exercise.

Sometimes it takes 2 to 3 weeks for a fill to realize its potential. Be patient it'll come.

Wit the weather changing I'm finding I'm not thinking about food all of the time. Not that I thought about it "all the time" but certainly more than I wanted. Head hunger seems to have abandoned me. I don't know what that's all about but I'm loving it

How much weight should one lose in a week?
SandyM replied to lorena verdugo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
15 lbs is a good deal of weight for a month. Prepare for that to slow down. Most banders start settling at around 5 lbs a month. Could be more or less, but it's not about trying to lose the weight fast but for permanently.
