I saw guar gum at the health food store, but don't remember seeing xanthan gum. Guess I'll have to look.

Proper Calorie Intake while VERY Active
SandyM replied to mommymaverick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think the band was a good choice for me but definitely would have considered the sleeve if I had done more research. But I see the same kind of posts from sleevers, wanting to know why they are at plateaus and not losing. You can eat around either. I think the problem might actually be in your caloric intake. I agree that your surgeon should have an idea about your calorie needs. That's insane. Beware of surgeons who want to "jump" to another surgery. Also beware of unnecessary surgeries. -
I'm doing that and thought maybe the ice cubes melting might be what's thinning them down. T tried flax seed powder (got that idea from the net) but don't like the flavor it adds, plus don't notice much thickness

debbie you look great. I love watching the transformation. -
So, today is my 1 year bandiversary. I'm so pleased with how this has gone. No complications at all. I still watch what I eat, not always as closely as I could, but as closely as I need to. I'm at a stand still with weight loss, but I'm almost to goal, so I know if I tighten up I'll get there. Just trying to live my life and not focus on food. Hubby has lost 40 lbs during our journey and we are double pleased. He did not have surgery. I never thought I would even consider WLS, but my weight had already gotten out of control and my quality of life was diminishing. I'm just grateful for everything. I'm also very grateful for the support I have received from many board members here. This is a great place to get a helping hand or a sympathetic shoulder. The band is a tool for me. I'm still learning to use it properly and now I'm pretty much in the maintenance phase and I believe I can handle this. I am glad that I came on when it was the old board and wasn't exposed to all of the negativity and band-bashing that I see with the new board. I probably would have chickened out and I'd just be further down the road of self-destruction. Any-who.....Thanks everybody.

Feelings... Whoa, whoa, whoa, feelings....
SandyM replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At least it was pork chop and not spaghetti or French fries -
I totally agree. It didn't work before, so abandon it and make your new tool work for you. I think people want it and want it now and don't realize they are getting themselves back onto the old road of self destruction. Too, I hear alot of people complaining and mapping out everything they are doing with exercise and diet and it's still not working for them and I often wonder, are they listing everything or are they holding out, even subconsciously. None of us want to admit that we are 100% responsible for where we are (or have been), but we all know deep down that we are. We have to take our lives back and whatever WLS we have chosen is a tool to help us do that. Ok, lol, my rant is over.

I especially like this one. Step 9 Accept plateaus. According to Dr. McGee, behavior change follows a predictable curve, rising quickly at first, reaching a plateau, and then rising more slowly with still more plateaus. "You're going to get discouraged and want to quit because you're not making much progress," says Dr. McGee. "If you know to expect this, you'll be more prepared to stay with your goal."

Weight Loss Surgery and Constipation: The Key Ingredients
SandyM replied to Sally Johnston's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Good thinking. A healthy bedtime snack with the Fiber you need. -
I make myself a nice Protein shake and sip on it. If I have to give in, I get something nourishing out of it. Good luck with it.

Great news.

Friends, I need some guidance.........
SandyM replied to Suzanne02780's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that this would be a good start. By the time you finish preop and post op diet you wuld hav some idea if a fill is what your need. Start your journey all over. -
i use to work that, I know how it is. Sucks even on your days off
-
Keep on working it, it'll happen
-
Just got the ninja mega kitchen for early mothersday. Now to start experimenting
-
I'm slowly getting it off. I originally set my sites on 138 cuz that would put me at 25 BMI. I later raised it to 145 cuz I feel ok where I am and jus want a nice stopping point. I'm averaging less than a lb a week. I was thinking about a fill , but just about decided against it. I do a week of almost solid proteins each month and drp 2 lbs during that week.

Have you gone for your postop check yet? Is there a chance your plication will be enough?

FIRST TIME EVER TO GET STUCK! OUCH!
SandyM replied to bluegudren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. No fluids for me...I make my own:(. As for hollering none of that either, just look of total despair and lots of spitting and wishing I could turn back the clock. -
Mine sometimes happen 10 or 15 minutes later, but I can feel it coming on. Yours does sound more like irritation. If go back to liquids for a day if it were me
-
Yeah I guess I know this. I just wish I knew for sure. Guess I'm going to leave well enough alone and see how the weight loss continues. I'm almost at goal.

Has anybody experienced being overfilled under fluoroscopy? I'm thinking I could possibly use a fill and have an opportunity to have one under fluoro. Thing is, I'm not sure I even necessarily need one and certainly don't want to be too tight. That's why I was wondering. Just throw me some ideas and tell me what you think
-
My copay has tripled and I'm a little peaved. I'm doing my routine checks , just to talk cuz I really don't want a blind fill. A friend of mine goes to dallas for her fills with fluoro for less than I pay for my "talks" including insurance. I feel like I'm cheating lol. But I'm really curious about the fluoro and I would also like to see how close I really am. Friend says her doc is very good and explains everything as he goes. I'm not doing bad, so I'm just not sure I want to push it

Wishing I had told NO ONE!
SandyM replied to delove32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that it is you having to do the work to lose the weight, you do have the advantage of the "tool". I believe I've lost by doing the things I need to do, but also believe that without the band it would have been much more difficult if not impossible. Face it, I've been at it a year, I've never stuck with any of my weight loss endeavors anywhere near this long. People aren't going to forget we have the tool and don't consider us to be on the same playing field. I think I would focus more on convincing her that it's not a contest but a mutual support system than trying to convince her that you don't have an advantage
