Shrinking a Stretched Pouch?
SandyM replied to depressed_bandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can try the 5 day pouch test. It won't hurt to try it -
I don't even know how much is in my band, but it did take me about 4 fills to get there. Everybody is individual so we all dint require the same amt

I like MFP. Has a good food library. I used Loseit and thTs the one my surgeon likes, but the library is much smaller
-
Yep each journey is a little different yet so much alike. Happy to see you back on track
-
You are probably fine, just pay attention to your body and I'd you feel anything different contact your surgeon. Might be advisable to do liquids for the day and give your system a rest

I think we all will eventually get there. Check in ever so often so we can continue being encouraged by someone who has made it.

Worried About a Possible Slip...
SandyM replied to FatHannah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The largest scar is the port scar. It stays tender much longer than the others as that is where they created the pocket that houses your port. I've heard of them staying tender for even up to a year, probably due to nerve endings in that area. I'm a year out and mine isn't tender, but definitely noticeable. -
Question for you all.
SandyM replied to Nettyinlacey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't start back on the Protein drinks for about a week. They were just too rich and thick for me. They actually made me a little queezy. Its mostly about staying hydrated during this initial phase. and allowing yourself time to heal. -
I would LOVE to have a new buddy / Mentor or two
SandyM replied to Anne Marie Elias's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually, this initial stage is not for losing, it's for healing. Drink plenty of Fluid and follow your doctors orders. You have sutures that need to heal and you don't want to tear anything loose. You'll find lots of support on this site, but the burden is still yours. We all occasionally don't follow the rules, but don't do anything to jeopardize your band. -
I did the hug diet about a year and a half ago and was miserable. Lost a lot of weight fast, burned out on it and like all other diets gained it back plus some. As for menopause, it does make it easier to gain wt and harder to lose it, but many of us have already proven that it's still possible. I can't imagine that your nutritionist told you to take in 1900 calories. That's about what you would need to maintain wt, not lose. My doc said 1200. I mix it up, 1200 for a few weeks, 900 for a few. Plus lots of exercise.

First post op follow up visit
SandyM replied to Susan58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, they breeze in and out pretty quick. Mine will stop and answer questions if I ask, but if I don't stop him, I get about 5 minutes. Except if I bring up exercising or protein diet, these seem to be his passion and he's all in. -
Question about carbonated beverages
SandyM replied to ksc1965's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told it was cuz the carbonation and the stomachs inability to expel the gas fast enough due to the band -
Good deal on the Phillips mom. T bought the liquid colace and it is without a doubt the nastiest stuff I've ever tried to take
-
You probably still have lots of swelling. You'll have to drink constantly in small amts to stay hydrated. It will get better. Use a shot glass and mark down each time you drink one
-
Not discounting what you're saying TMF, but I've helped out in the GI lab and sometimes I saw folks not being as cautious as I would prefer. I'd have my fluid removed first.
-
My advice is call your surgeon and discuss it as well as have a long talk with your GI Doctor

Am I wrong for comparing my food addiction to a drug addiction?
SandyM replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I deal with addictions all the time in my work. Personalities are what makes it the most different. With food addiction, we usually and nearly always publicly display the results of our addiction, causing us to become defensive and shamed. You never see a naturally skinny person complain about food addiction. It's not a problem for them. I had a counselor tell me once if alcohol causes you problems then you have an alcohol problem. Most recovering drug addicts like to wear their demon as a badge, food addicts spend a lot of time trying to put ours away. Drugs and alcohol I put away for good along time ago, food is an addiction I have to learn to live with because it's something I can't live without. So food is an addiction...an acceptable one. It's obesity that's unacceptable. -
OK, how do you handle these kinds of situations?
SandyM replied to gowalking's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I ran into a similar situation except in my scenario, it was someone I've known a very long time who is a little more obese than I was . I see her bout every 3 - 4 months on special occasions. She always compliments my wt loss and asks me what I'm doing and I give her the spiel about eating right and exercising yadayadayada. Anyway, one day I noticed the sad look in her eyes when she was telling me about how she'd lose just to regain and gain more than she lost and exercise was hard due to her weight and she had no energy and hated how she looked and felt. I told her bout my surgery, swore her to secrecy as I still have no intention of sharing it with my hubby's family and that's who she is close to. She's making plans for WLS in the near future. Made me feel good that my journey might help her. -
Lol, guess it goes without saying that everybody here cares at least a little about their appearance...ok more than a little

Just Starting The Lap Band Journey
SandyM replied to Makinchanges4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most surgeons require a 2 to 3 week preop and then a post op. The preop is very important to shrink the liver to prepare you for surgery. The sureon is going to manipulate your stomach. You should have 3 - 4 small incisions. One will be larger and more tender this the incision for the port itself. You'll be sore for several weeks until you heal. You will also have gas pain. Walk walk walk and drink drink drink. You do have a lot of questions. I would google the heck out of it. Everybodys experience isn't the same. I have no regrets and would do it again tomorrow. -
