    My IBS has gone.....

How are you ladies going? I searched IBS and found this thread. I am 2 months lap banded and find I am still having trouble with IBS on some days. Other days I go without passing anything at all. I have just started a food diary and am literally writing down everything I eat and all movements so that I can take it to the dietician. So frustrating, I am not celiac and have no food allergies as I have been extensively tested, however food intolerances are a whole other world of hurt. I am lacking so much energy. Any tips would be well received

    Sharp pains

I also got sharp pains like that but once the gas was expelled they went away. I also had sharp pain after some exercise that was similar about a month later, once again it turned out to be gas pain and once expelled it went. Takes a number of days

    Hard not to...

Yeah I am frightened of excess skin too! I started at 250 pounds and last time i lost the weight i did it via exercise over 18mths and i didnt have excess skin but I am 5 yrs older now and am a little bit bigger so i am scared. Slowly wins the race, although I love seeing the scales go down and want that instant gratification too

Example of a Day meal menu

How active are you? When you plateau its a good idea to change what sort of activities you are doing and even change some of the foods you eat because your body has got used to them. Have you looked at Paleo foods? I cant eat anything with starch or wheat so I try to eat foods that taste yum that dont have any of the high calories or additives I cant eat. This website is awesome for some low carb options that allow you to eat like a 'normal' person. In particular the cauliflower pizza is amazing!!! http://yourlighterside.com/

How do I kick the soda

I had a coke addiction and was drinking a lot. I started by drinking sparkling mineral water as a substitute, that way I still got the fizz sensation I liked so much and then slowly my big bottle of sparkling water on my desk changed to a big bottle of still water on my desk. I still drink soda occaisionally but it can give gas pains with the band and so I try to avoid it. I guess the only thing to watch is that you dont choose an alternative that is just as bad, eg juices, cordials etc. Try and break the habit with sparkling water, I even opt for this in a wine glass when out instead of champagne.

    Denied because of 1.8lbs!

Ohhh no! I'm so sorry! I would be crushed too. Sending you big hugs, just remember all things happen for a reason and perhaps when you do get banded it will be the right time. I know that's not very comforting right now, but take care, you can do this. Xx
  12. A little gripe to share. So I am sitting at my desk at work this morning and my old boss comes in to say hello. We chat for a few minutes and all is very pleasant and then he says "ohhh you weren’t here last week one day when I came in to see you" "No I wasn’t, I went home ill last Wednesday and didn’t come back till Monday because I had severe food poisoning" "ohhh I bet you have been eating too much McDonalds." and then laughs at me. "Actually no, it wasn’t that at all." REALLY!!!!! What the..... How rude! Sure I am chubby, sure I am booked in for lap banding (he is unaware) but I am not at McDonalds every day, not even once a month! I love how people always assume you must eat junk all day long to be fat. I actually eat generally good food, I just eat too much of it! I'm really glad I have not told lots of people about my procedure. The audacity! I wish I was able to think more quickly and say something back but I was just too taken aback and he was my boss so I guess I feel like it is difficult to say something in return! Has anyone else experienced this recently?

ha ha love this post - I can hear the excitement and happiness. It just made me smile! Well done
  15. Awesome effort so far!! I am getting banded next Wednesday and cant wait. 40 pounds without the band is a super start! You must feel really proud of yourself I have been reading everything I can, my main aim before surgery was to curb my sugar addiction - its been hard! I have had the shakes, headaches and I feel like a drug addict! Good luck with your surgery, I will be watching out for you
  16. Hi All, I just wanted to share a recipe with you all as someone mentioned PIZZA! Ha, I love pizza but cant eat wheat so I found this awesome alternative that I think will be band friendly down the track and has certainly been a saviour. My preop diet isnt super strict and so I made this saturday night with just half the cheese. My partner also loves it as he doesnt feel bloated afterwards. I have made up a whole lot of little pizza crusts and frozen them - you can use it as bread! You Won’t Believe it’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust 1 cup cooked, riced cauliflower* 1 egg 1 cup mozzarella cheese 1/2 tsp fennel 1 tsp oregano 2 tsp parsley **pizza or alfredo sauce toppings (make sure meats are cooked) mozzarella cheese Preheat oven to 450 degrees Farenheit. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray. In a medium bowl, combine cauliflower, egg and mozzarella. Press evenly on the pan. Sprinkle evenly with fennel, oregano and parsley. Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes (15-20 minutes if you double the recipe). Remove the pan from the oven. To the crust, add sauce, then toppings and cheese. Place under a broiler (grill for the Europeans) at high heat just until cheese is melted **.

    Severe Sleep Apnea

Your Welcome. My grandfather died at 65 due to a heart condition and from all accounts from my grandma we are certain he had sleep apnea and undiagnosed it took his life much too early. He died 3 weeks before i was born. I sincerely believe in proper medical treatment because I want to live past 65 and meet my grandkids!!!! My mum was diagnosed about 10 years ago and started researching, my brother was diagnosed about 5 years ago and was so bad the Sydney hospital asked him to particpate in a medical study. They actually found that in his case, the mouth guard bringing his bottom jaw forward was more effective than the CPAP - they were astounded! This is not to say that would be the case with every patient and I am certainly not a doctor!!! But why wouldnt you want to explore all options to ensure your health is at an optimum level? As stated, my own specialist tried the CPAP route with me first, I told him if he didnt refer me to dental surgeon I would seek alternative advice and he wouldnt get his commission anyway so he may as well just help me!! I'm glad i went in there armed with information because he was really difficult to start with and realised I wasnt just another cash cow he could milk. Please do your research, seek alternative opinions, dont just settle for one option.
  19. Awesome hadn't thought of that, many thanks! I took magnesium for the headache and hopefully my mental foggieness will be easily covered up at work tomorrow
  20. The headaches are now kicking in I can't imagine what it must be like to detox off hard drugs!
  21. Did anyone else get the shakes really bad on the pre-op diet! I'm on day two and feel nauseous and shaky!!! ha ha all that badness coming out

    Severe Sleep Apnea

PS dont let a doctor say it wont work for you, mine tried and I told him flat out that I knew he got a commission and that I was having none of it, he smiled and wrote me a referral to an excellent dental surgeon. I have not looked back and am so glad that I investigated. I know that it may not work for some people but personally I would try anything and everything before agreeing to a CPAP!

    Severe Sleep Apnea

I also have severe sleep apnea as do my mum and brother (both skinny) and after a number of battles with medical staff over CPAP machine we found there is actually an excellent alternantive. The company that makes the CPAP machines give money to the doctors to sell them (a commission) and hence they never tell you their are alternatives because they are getting huge kickbacks. Granted they work and they do ensure you breathe but I just think its a disgrace that they refuse to tell you there are other options. Fortunately my mum is a nurse and was seeing what an incredible wrought it was and decided to start investigating. We found that there is a special mouthguard called a Mandibular advancement device that can be made by a dental surgeon. Yes they cost a fair bit of money but my god what an investment. They are fitted to your mouth perfectly and are adjustible to bring the jaw forward until you are able to ensure the muscles dont relax onto your airway. Here is some further info but google them - they are awesome!!! and so much less cumbersome, easy for travel and much better for your partners sleep as well. Mandibular advancement device (MAD) A MAD is a mouthpiece you wear when sleeping. There are many types of MADs. Most are made of hard plastic that covers your upper and lower teeth. Some devices also hold your tongue in place. The mouthpiece keeps your jaw forward and your airway open. These devices are sold and fitted by a dentist, or an orthodontist, who makes a mold of your mouth.
