I have been working towards this for 5 months (WL trial) and am ready to meet with surgeon, come to find out, I have to have had a bmi of 40 for five years and proof by doctor record for each of those five years. Well, my bmi has ranged from 38-47, but I have 2 years under 40. So it looks like I will be denied. I have BCBS NJ

Now I just looked up my policy and talked to the insurance company and they said it does not say anywhere anything about 5 years. I also read a 36 page document in regards to gastric surgery in my plan, and it doesn't mention it either. . . I have no idea why my surgeons office would say I need this for insurance, unless this a trick the insurance companies try later?

if you have never or RARELY PB or slime? After reading all the blogs, I'm a bit worried about that. I am not down with vomiting or spitting up food. The slime sounds horrible. But I see it happening to people who say they are eating correctly. Who HASN"T had a problem with this, and what do you attribute your personal success of not having these complications?

I am four months into my 6 month insurance mandated weight loss trial and I have gained 7lbs. Not to make excuses, by my mother passed away 8 weeks in (she died of the day of my second appt.) . My doctor has not seemed worried about it. Can you still get approved if you have not lost weight? Or have I really messed myself up?

I go for my 5th appointment today, I think I will ask if it interferes. I was originally not sure if I wanted WLS, just decided to do the program incase I did decide to do WLS. Now I am pretty positive about it, after reading a lot of blogs and what not. So I am hoping I'll be able to get banded by October. It would be nice to have it a month or so before the holidays kick in. I know I will be a mess this holiday season without my mom, and being banded then would maybe give me something to take the focus off my grief. -
What made you decide to be successful?

I was diagnosed with diabetes 9 months ago, and still didn't change. My mom recently passed away from diabetes related complications. I was not ready to lose her, and I am not ready to die like her. I have to change. -

I was thinking I didn't "have" to lose weight, as he doesn't really push hard, and has been more just concerned about my emotional well being. I am trying to get back on track, but it is hard. I don't work outside of the home, so I spend a lot of time at home feeling sad and emotionally eating. I am attempting to get out more and walk more. Thanks for condolences.
