Vitamins/Supplements?
bamagurl replied to LACRACRA2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do take with food, but being 6 weeks out from a Band revision to a Sleeve, the amount of food I am taking them with just isn't providing enough of a buffer. When I was banded I could take them no problem. I never though to take in several bites though ... maybe I will try that tonight. If that doesn't do it, I am definitely going to try something else. -
Vitamins/Supplements?
bamagurl replied to LACRACRA2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just looking through the forum for the answer to this same question ... I currently have the chewable daily multi Vitamin from Opurity and it makes me completely nauseous within a few minutes! Following your post to see what is out there that is recommended! Best Wishes! -
What is this feeling in my stomach?
bamagurl replied to Lovin2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree! Everything is irritated right now and in the healing phase. I am 2 weeks/2 days out and I seemed to feel better about my liquids at day 6. Sip your liquids. And I try to steer clear of things that are really cold. They tend to constrict and I have a harder time. Wishing you all the best! -
Hey y'all! I am so glad to hear your stories. I was banded October 2013, the too loose/ too tight yo-yo for over a year, emptied March 2015 for 6 weeks for a concentric slip, refilled, too loose/ too tight again yo-yo for another year, then the emergency room in distress April 2016. Thankfully un-filling was enough to relieve the distress, but in testing they found again, my band has slipped. My insurance has approved the sleeve revision for 2 June, this Thursday. I am currently on my day 8 of 10 days of pre-op liquids and looking forward to what my future holds. The band gave me restriction of portions, but I was always hungry. I am happy with the loss of weight I was able to keep off with my band, but my excitement has been renewed because I am sure I can get off a considerable amount more. I keep checking back to this site for all the information I can get. It is really good to hear stories that I can relate to. Thank you for posting about yours!

Band to Sleeve revision with a BMI of 31
bamagurl replied to beesam's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was just approved for a revision to a sleeve and my current BMI is 31. Of course, every patient and insurance is different. I have now had 2 slips, each a year apart, and my surgery is scheduled for 2 June. Wishing you the best of luck. -

I have found that once you have a fill, you have to learn how to use your band again. I recently had an adjustment that I recognized was too tight after about 2 weeks. I was having several stuck episodes a day and hiccupped all the time. I did have 0.5 cc removed and have been good to go since. Give yourself about a week and keep a good food journal for yourself. Make notes when you have an issue with a particular food and steer clear of that item. I hardly noticed a difference for myself until my band was around 5cc (in a 10cc band). Be patient and listen to your band. Wishing you all the best.

I'm having a strange chest pressure sensation that's hard to describe. Nothing that I can associate with pain, just a constant and dull pressure. It started yesterday and I haven't been able to figure out what is going on. I can eat and drink with no problems, so I know it is not a stuck episode, but I am hiccupping more than usual. Has anyone had something like this happen to them? I do have my monthly visit with my surgeon tomorrow for a fill, so I am going to bring it up at my appointment, but any remedies or solutions ... heck, even an explanation would be helpful. A little more info about me. Banded Oct 30th. Have had 2 fills since my original fill at surgery. 4.6 cc in a 10 cc band. Can't really blame anything in particular that I ate yesterday because sticking to my band approved choices. Have chewed some papaya enzymes thinking it would help, but no relief at this point. Really at a loss. Thanks in advance for any replies! Love my band family!!!

Update on the pressure: At my doctors visit, the nurse suspected I had experienced a stuck episode and it left some swelling. Since I was still able to eat and drink, and not in any distress, I did not get a fill or unfill but waited to see and within 2 days the pressure was gone. Earlier this week I received a fill, and definitely have noticed a different restriction. I have had 2 stuck episodes, just in the past 2 days, and I can relate it to the feeling of pressure I noticed and wrote about originally. I'm having to retrain myself how to eat, smaller bites especially. Hope this thread can help someone out there.

Specific friend advice needed! Pic included
bamagurl replied to dreamscometrue's topic in Rants & Raves
I agree about giving her the benefit of the doubt and being wrapped up in her wedding ... however, the road of friendship is about give and take. Especially if this is a childhood friend!! Someone that has been through more of your life with you than your spouse. It may be time to have the talk about taking great responsibility in your health and improving your quality of life. Not that you have to tell all ... but by saying, hey, a little positive reinforcement from you would be wonderful, might make her see the new you in different eyes! Congrats on #60! That's amazing! You are an inspiration to us bandsters! Keep up the great work! -
Cosmetic surgery and the band
bamagurl replied to ms kat's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just recently went to a support group that had a plastic surgeon as the speaker. It was amazing the transformations of the before and after pictures! The one thing he kept making clear is there will be scarring. One lady did ask the question about the band needing to be unfilled and his recommendation was that was only necessary if they were doing a tummy tuck and the port needed to be readjusted to the abdominal wall. Of course, check with your own surgeon for their suggestions. Wish you the best of luck! Be sure to take some before and after photos, even if only for your collection. -
How long do you wait in between fills?
bamagurl replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Same here. I think my doctors office wants monthly visits during the first year after surgery. They want to follow your progress, provide support and give fills as necessary. I finally feel that I am in the green zone ... up to that point, I was hungry all the time too. Try to make good choices, keep up on your protein and hang in there, it gets better, I promise! -
I'm GREEN..... I'm GREEN at last!
bamagurl replied to HealthyNewMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I finally know what you speak of HealthyNewMe!!!! (doing the happy dance) I feel as I just achieved the green zone this week with my fill. I knew I was close since my fill last month gave me a longer satisfied feeling than I had experienced up to now. I finally feel that the band is taking over and these long months of willpower hell are through! Thank you for your post! Wishing you continued success! -

On stage 1 and 2 days post op
bamagurl replied to Lbktxgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wishing you the best of luck! The hardest part it over. Listen to your body and what it tells you. If it is telling you to rest, you need a little more time to heal and try to take it easy. Keep us posted on your progress! -
New to the group. Lap Band scheduled for Feb 13.
bamagurl replied to anissa_walls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wishing you the best of luck! I think WLS is the best decision that I have made and its certainly changed my life ... and my health. I used to pick up a bagfull of meds every time I visited the pharmacy and I am happy to say that I am now taking only 3 prescriptions daily, one blood pressure tablet, one allergy tablet and an asthma inhaler. And that blood pressure tablet is now being cut in half! It will change your life too! You've found a great support site. Keep us posted of your progress! -
Each hospital has different requirements. Check with what your surgeons standards are. Mine asked for all nail polish to be removed, nothing about makeup. If it makes you feel better and they allow it, by all means. But do keep in mind, you may not feel the best when you wake up from surgery. I had the hardest time with nausea and my eyes watered quite a bit. And in my healing stages the first few days after surgery, I had my sister paint my toes because there was no way I could bend that far without pain. Expect your port area to be uncomfortable for up to a month. I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming procedure!

Is this a good idea?
bamagurl replied to vincereautmori's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely! Mine was with me at every step of the way! Encourage them to write any questions in a notebook so they remember when you get in the appointment. I always find myself getting nervous talking with the doctor and forget the important questions that are on my mind. Also include your spouse in things like support group meetings as well as your doctors appointments, even small things like measurements, photos, meal planning. They are going to be your own private support network a fingertip away. Good luck and keep coming to this site! Its wonderful! -
Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. 90 minutes in a class 3 times a week tells me that you are building some lean muscle. I began to get frustrated that the numbers on the scale weren't moving and then I had my husband check my measurements ... imagine my surprise in a 14.5 inch difference from day before surgery, I am almost to 3 months post surgery. I felt so much better after seeing that. I also have been making a photo journal to track what the camera sees ... I am still seeing all my flub and imperfections, but when comparing, I can definitely see my progress. I wish you all the best! Keep up the good work!!!

If you want to try something natural, a small dab of peppermint oil works wonders on reflux. Where I live there is an Herb and Spice Shop that carry's it in a small bottle that only releases micro-drops. The particular product I use is made by Natures Sunshine and is Stock # 1706-8. From what I understand any peppermint oil will work, just be sure to use very little. Within 5 minutes my reflux is gone. Good luck!

Signs that you're full. How does your body tell you it's enough?
bamagurl replied to desertpixie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a hiccuper too! I can kind of feel when I get to the right point and I set my utensil down and sure enough, within a minute or 2, here comes the hiccup -
I'm with Way2go123 ... what works for one, may not work for all. Pre-surgery I tried every shake I could get my hands on and discussed with my support group. Personally, I use unjury vanilla or chocolate powder every day in my coffee ... I am terrified of hair loss, so I am not using it as my meals, but supplementing my Protein. Also have used Bariatric Advantage, really liked the coffee flavor, their powders shake up nice and thick and even GNC has a great premade grab and go Lean Shake. I loved the pumpkin spice flavor they had that was seasonal so I grabbed up several cases. Pretty much in the same boat with the Vitamins. I really like the Opurity chewable Band specific Vitamin, but it nauseates the heck out of me. Find something that works for you BEFORE your surgery ... you want to stock up so that's one less thing you have to think about while recovering.

So, I'm pretty good at taking care of my teeth and gums and usually never have cavities. You can imagine my surprise when at my bi-yearly cleaning at the dentist I had 4 cavities ... FOUR!!! WTH! The dentist wanted to know what has changed in my life and how that has effected my eating habits. My last cleaning was in March. I started my lap-band process in July and was banded at the end of October. Pre packaged Protein shakes, fruit juice with my doses of miralax, milk based Protein Shakes, and not drinking with or after eating ... BINGO! You can imagine my surprise! Apparently when we banders, thinking we are doing great things for our weight loss, eat the things that are recommended and don't drink for as long as we can tolerate it, those fructose filled cavity makers are sitting on our teeth having a party. So just a word of advice, if you don't want to end up like me, after eating, or drinking any protein type things or fruit juices, take a mouth full of Water, swish it around and spit it out. Your teeth will thank you

13 days post op... Been plateaued 5 days.
bamagurl replied to MyHighway's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Pat yourself on the back ... this is the dreaded time of year when everyone says heck with it, my diet starts in January. I too am having a slow loss month and had my 2nd fill visit today. Both of the nurses and the doctor praised me for not gaining during this time of year. Yes, the happy holiday time of year where 6 long weeks of temptations are looking us in the face. Don't let frustration get to you because if you are like me, that means putting things that I shouldn't in my mouth. Trust in yourself to persevere! We didn't get to where we are overnight so don't expect it to come off the same way. Hang in there!!!
