    Dr. Scott Robbins -Dothan Alabama

Awesome! I have mine December 19th... did you give yourself the lovenox? I'm nervous about giving myself an injection :/ I was hesitant about the injections also, I had my husband do them for me and believe it or not, they are easier than I thought. Seriously, just a bitty pinch. The needle is tiny. Hopefully you will have someone willing to do them for you. Once you have your first one, you will see what I mean. Best wishes on your upcoming procedure. I go for my second fill Tuesday. So far I am not feeling much restriction and relying on my will power. Looking forward to my appointment. I am so ready not to be so hungry all the time!

    Porthole Sticking Out?!

A friend of mine has reached her goal weight and recently had her port replaced with a low profile port. Might be something to talk with your doctor about if you are concerned. From what she said, it was a pretty easy procedure Congratulations on reaching your goal!!! Wish you the best!

    1St Fill

It seems every doctors prefill requirements are different. My office asks you to eat before you come for your fill, then liquids only for the rest of the day, and back to chunky foods the next day. My advice would be just to call your office and check before your appointment. That way there is no guessing. Best of luck!
  4. One of the things that I have talked about with my doctor ... and I'm sure there are many opinions out there, but the biggest thing my doc said was not taking in enough Protein can cause hair loss. Not to mention the shock alone of your body not having all those carb-heavy, sugar filled, bad choices we have all made prior to our decision to have WLS. Your body is adjusting to its new lifestyle. Pump up on your protein, make sure you are taking a multi Vitamin, and yes, go easy on the brushing. Oh, and a Vitamin D deficiency can cause hair loss also. I wish you all the best!
  5. Haven't been regular since my banding. My doctor recommended Milk of Mag as needed ... but I would rather move everyday, rather than resort to a super laxative when I have to. Any suggestions out there? All this protein protein protein makes some unhappy guts.
  6. I've taken the Miralax every day since I made this posting (3 days) and have added chia seeds to Breakfast and THANKFULLY all appears to be moving normally again. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply!
  7. Banded October 30 and had my first fill yesterday 11/26. Arrived at the office and weighed in with vitals. Escorted to the sonogram room where the nurse got a good look at my port, she mentioned they only sonogram on the first fill visit and notate the depth of the port in the chart. She also numbed the area with lidocane ... and itty bitty pinch. The doctor came in and explained the process of the fill to me, happy with my progress. He felt the port under my skin, had me do a crunch hold position and placed the needle in the port, BTW didn't feel a thing. He drew what was in my band into the syringe that already had my scheduled fill inside, checking for leaks, and refilling my band with the syringe. I got a 1.2cc fill at surgery and 1.4cc's yesterday. For a total of 2.6cc in my 10cc band. I thought a 1.4 cc fill was on the low side, but I would rather have small fills so that I can feel what the restriction feels like. Sat in the waiting room until I drank at least a half a bottle of Water. Then I scheduled my next fill on 12/17. Easy enough. My doctor only required liquids on the day of the fill, today I am back to my chunky foods. So thankful for my band! Excited to meet the me that's under all this fluff! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  8. Happy to report that I got to say goodbye to my HCTZ! (And Potassium ... can't do one without the other!) I'm down 19 lbs since July. My BP is stabilized and hanging right in there around 120/75. Hooray!! A small hurdle because I still have one to go. Will be over the moon when I can lose the other one too! Looking forward to my first fill on the 26th.
  9. Thank y'all for your postings! Very helpful!!! I am definitely hitting the drug store today! Miralax is top on the list! And I actually have chia seeds from one of my many fad diets ... adding that today. Going to have to make sure I have some sort of ruffage every day with meals. As always ... Thankful for this site and all the experiences of others helping me along the journey!

    Who Got Stuck For Thanksgiving?

No stuck problems here, thankfully!!! But everything ... and I mean EVERYTHING, tasted so good this year. Somehow I found the willpower to stay away from the bad stuff. Thankful for my band and new attitude on eating!

    My First Fill Experience

Haven't really noticed a difference in my hunger pangs after my first fill. From everything I have read, it can take a few fills to really notice a difference. Will keep relying on my willpower until I get to my green zone! Looking forward to my next fill already!
  12. I am 3 weeks banded and my incisions are nicely healed so I have been putting vitamin e oil on them and while massaging I noticed a tiny bump. I looked in the mirror and sure enough there was a piece if rope-like thread in the corner where my skin has healed around it. Probably no more than 1/8 of an inch. Has anyone else had this? I'm not sure it is supposed to be there ... I did trim it with a small pair of scissors. My fill is next week, if its still there I am going to have them check it out.

    First Fill...

I am so thankful for this site. There truly is nothing like reading what others experience so that you can have a reasonable expectation of your upcoming appointment. My first fill is next Tuesday and I really appreciate the insight of other Bandsters!
  14. All set and ready to leave for the hospital ... my Banding Day has arrived! I have been looking forward to this day for a long, long time! See ya on the other side!
  15. Probably so! I had my procedure done at the Flowers Surgery Center, Dr Robbins was my surgeon. I had absolutely no idea that I had a hernia. Occasional heartburn, but I chalked that up to spicy food choices. I am really glad I did spend the night at the hospital, insurance deemed it necessary with the hernia repair, I felt in such good hands being there. FYI ... my arrival time was 6am but I didn't get back to the pre-surgery area until after 10:30am, so bring yourself something to read. There is a tv in the room, but with the waiting and waiting, I would rather have known to bring something. Best Wishes for your procedure! Think I sent you a friend request, so if you have any questions ... be glad to help!
  16. Feeling almost back to normal. Still sore on my left (port) side, but from what I have read, that's going to take about a month to heal. Already off one of my BP meds too. Ready to get exercising but the hernia repair has me waiting on that. Scheduled for my first fill on the 26th. I'm ready to see what the green zone feels like
  17. Oh gosh ... I didn't even think about that. I have those too! Good luck to you Jas!
  18. I was banded about 16 days ago and CAN NOT wait for my first fill on the 26th! I have 1.25cc in a 10cc band. This site is a wonderful tool and even though some posts are about the trials and errors of others, it is very informative. Thank you for posting how you are feeling with your restrictions, it gives me an idea of what to expect.

    Stuck question

Thank you all for such an informative post! I am newly banded and hopefully will be able to avoid a stuck incident with all the great advice!

    Banded and happy

Give yourself some time to adjust. I am 7 days post op and feel a little better each day. I am still sore and a bit bloated. I don't think I did anything but sleep for the first 4 days. Around day 5 I had more motivation and no more need for any pain/nausea meds. Just listen to what your body is telling you it needs. Best wishes to you both!

    1 week since surgery..

My surgery was Oct 30th with hernia repair. My Budda belly is sore and bloated but actually was able to have a movement this morning for the first time ... and such relief afterwards! I am super hungry one minute and not the next but happy to report that I am able to drink my liquids without restriction. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get all my h2o in. My post-op appointment is tomorrow. Not really in any pain, but the sore 'I just did 1000 crunches' feeling is subsiding slowly day by day. Wishing everyone continued success with their bands!! It really seems to get easier each day
  22. Banded yesterday along with a hernia repair, so I had to spend the night in the hospital. In minimal pain, thankfully. The gas pain in my shoulder comes and goes, but its manageable. I'm guessing my port site is the area on my tummy that is really sore. Have been using a heating pad in that area. I'm glad to be home, in my own bed since I didn't get a lick of rest in the hospital ... I swear the nurses wait outside the door until you fall asleep! So glad to be banded!!!
  23. Fantastic job! I love reading positive posts! Keep up the great work!
  24. My surgery date October 30th is fast approaching. Just had my anesthesia appointment today, as well as Lovenox training. I'm on Day 4 of my liquid diet and have already dropped 6.4 pounds ... but I'm so hungry all the time. Looking forward to being banded and losing this 'hungry hungry hippo' feeling. I'm looking at the big picture and 10 days of shakes is just a small price to pay. Feeling determined!
