About Me
My first bariatric surgery, VSG, was on 2/13/14. Prior to surgery, I considered weight loss surgery to be an easy way out of a situation that was self created. I thought changing food habits and exercising regularly was enough to stay healthy, I was wrong. Over the course of nine months, my asthma was uncontrollable, requiring steroids and antibiotics regularly. In addition, my left knee would swell, become painful and give out frequently forcing me to limit all physical activity. At the same time, my hypertension continued to increase, resisting my daily medication regimen. By the time I realized how serious my hypertension was, my provider was concerned I would have a stroke before I could lose weight to stabilize my blood pressure. Since I was now high risk of having a stroke, I needed the weight off sooner than later. After meeting my insurance requirements for bariatric surgery, I was denied since I did not have a two-year history of obesity. Thus, I had my surgery in Tijuana, MX. I lost 93lbs, and went from a size 18 to a 2. I wasn't too happy with how skinny I looked, but I was healthy. Twenty-four years of hypertension went away, my asthma was now under control and although my knee pain was better, it continued to be a problem. On 7/27/2015, I had my left knee replaced, after which, I thought everything was fine. I learned to love my new size 2 and I was no longer in pain. Today, I find myself obese again...this time due to CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) on my left side, Sciatica on my right, asthma that is now year round, severe hypertension and Lymphedema. I need weight loss surgery again for basically the same issues and some new ones.
