  1. i can't believe after all this time that it's finally here! my surgery is next tuesday, 11/18. i start my 4-day pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. i have to have blood work and a chest xray between now and then. for all of those who are still in the early stages, i wanted to share this. i have been very frustrated with what seemed to be the surgeon's office staff's inability to keep on top of the paperwork, as i was asked for several of the requirements to be resent, some more than once. and, i was unhappy with the fact that, although i did everything early and/or on time and expected to be sleeved a month ago, between the insurance approval process and the doctor's schedule it's just happening now. BUT. after yesterday's visit, that all became irrelevant, and as i spoke with the surgeon and his nurse/program coordinator, i was very comfortable and pleased with their thoroughness in making sure i was totally prepared for this huge step. they both impressed me more at this visit than they have previously, and i am very happy i selected this center for my procedure. SO. the point i want to make is: try not to sweat the small stuff, it's not worth the anxiety it causes (believe me, i went through plenty and i feel fairly silly now). as long as you are satisfied with your selection of surgeon and team, go forward confidently and don't let the little annoying issues that are sure to come up break your spririt or cause you angst. in the long run, being pushed back one month is not going to affect the rest of my life, which is now looking so much more positive than it was six months ago! i'm so excited!!!!

    daughters concerns

trying one more time with the same amount of effort applied after surgery is not logical, because after surgery you will not be as hungry and you will not be able to eat more than prescribed. this is very very different than trying to lose by diet alone, and you know that. i agree with the others that furthering your daughter's education about WLS is key here.
  3. i had my pre-op visit with the surgeon yesterday, and i'm all set to go for next tue, 11/18 at 7:45 am EST! i just have to get the pre-op blood work and chest xray done. today is the last day i will be eating before starting my liquid diet tomorrow. trying to decide what to have for my dinner... i'm leaning towards eggplant parmigiana, one of my all time faves. how's everyone else doing today?

    Email marked as spam

depending on your email application... but there should be a way for you to see the items in your spam or junk folder... and then you should be able to select the one from bariatric pal and move it to your inbox, where it will no longer be thought of as spam... or some applications allow you to select "not spam". it's not something you do from here, it's from your email application.

    Any November Sleevers?

i love refried beans and i'm hoping i still do post-op, because i think i could live on them. i would love to mix them with some medium hot salsa!
  6. oh my lord, @@nprcowboy! what an ordeal! maybe your PCP can prescribe you something instead?
  7. my pre-op diet is only 4 days, but i'm starting it today (5 days early) to try and get rid of some of this before wednesday.
  8. please call your surgeon and ask for an anti-nausea med. i'm reading that this is a common thing post op.
  9. midwestgirl, so sorry about your loss. my condolences. i can imagine how it must feel to go through that on top of the surgery. it's so good to read about everyone's initial post-op experiences, the good, the bad and the wicked constipation . i'm so grateful for this site that brings us all together for support. i am petrified because i hurt my knee this weekend while my boyfriend was away on a retreat, and i couldn't cook (or barely stand) and i had to order in food, and i gained 4 lbs. my pre-op appt is wednesday, and i have no clue if they're going to weigh me again, and if they do, if they will put off my surgery because of it. please tell me, when you went for your final pre-op appt, did they weigh you again even though approval has already been granted and surgery already scheduled? thanks, jess

    Motivational changes early on

i understand. i had a lot of trouble staying focused on my pre-op journey, and i'm really glad it's ending in two weeks! can you try to make just one change a week? and if it's too big a change, cut it back? like maybe having 3 pops a week is a reallllllllllly big change for you... can you say 1 per day the first week, then start cutting out days? you will have to meet the requirements, which may (according to your program) include losing a certain amount of weight. how bad do you want this? you're going to have to work for it, that's a certainty.

    What are you excited for?

putting on my shoes and socks without gasping for breath. i like to wear sneakers, and lacing them up for me is a b!tch. i'm tired of wearing slip on shoes around the house, i feel like they slow me down and wearing sneakers makes me zoom!

    Something different!

@Crystal88 can you do things like put soy sauce or some other spices in your broth to make it tastier?

    Something different!

yes, call and ask. i don't know why you wouldn't be allowed crystal light right away.

    Medications in chewable form

my PCP looked up all my prescriptions to make sure they were crushable, and told me about one that was not (also an antidepressant). i spoke to my psychiatrist who prescribed the med (and who did my psych eval) and he wrote me a script for a different version of the med that was crushable (it's not time released). tell the person who prescribed the med for you, they will be able to help.
  16. absolutely yes! i felt the exact same way when the date was finally set. it was like, gee... no more hoops to jump through, nothing i can do to make this happen or to improve my chance for success except eat less, which is the hardest thing in the world for me to do consistently. somber is a great word to describe the way i felt. by the way, it's been about 1 week since i found out, and i'm really looking forward to this happening again, so let the feeling flow, it will be replaced shortly. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} on the loss of your feline friend.
  17. i love #TBT! i look forward to it every week, and find a picture of myself from back in the days before i became obese, and post it on Facebook for the world to see. oh, sometimes i post a pic of my daughter as a child so i don't seem totally self centered, but most of the time it's me, looking as sexy as possible. it's kind of an incentive to me, to see how great i used to look. isn't it awful that i used to think i needed to lose weight when i was wearing a bikini? sigh. it's also nice to show people who didn't know me back then what i used to look like (and still do in my head). i can't wait to be happy to post pictures from the present! 11/18 is sleeve day. hallelujah!

    In sitting Pre-op hell....

it was when i first acknowledged that i had a food addiction that i was able to get serious about this whole process. keep trying as hard as you can, and take it one hour at a time if you have to... it will be over soon!

My birthday and 5 months out

Happy Birthday! I can't wait to get a new kayak next spring. I sold mine after becoming too embarrassed to be seen getting in and out of it. I'm in awe of your successful weight loss!

    Any November Sleevers?

@@DylanRae, i'm on the 18th too! i bet the pre-op diet will get easier as you go forward, and that the hardest thing will be boredom from the limited variety. i have my pre-op appointment on the 12th, and i'm trying very hard to keep the weight i lost in the 3 months supervised diet off. i'm about 4 lbs above that right now, so i'm kicking into high gear to take that off before wednesday. i have to do a 4 day liquid diet starting one week from tomorrow. i'm not looking forward to it, but i'm glad it's only 4 days as i read about everyone's struggles with the longer pre-surgery diet. good luck to all who are getting sleeved today, and congrats to those who are in the recovery stage!
