  1. boy, i'm glad to hear that some of you had better turn around times than a month. i have aetna also, and am expecting to be submitted for approval some time next week after my last weighin... and i've been counting on getting my surgery in october. reading about a one month turn around is a bit depressing. i would be calling them every day to check up on it -- patience is NOT my strongest virtue.

    best wishes, Bernie!
  3. @, that must be so disappointing. maybe your surgeon will have a cancellation... i hear people back out of this frequently in the home stretch. maybe, let them know if a cancellation occurs you're interested in taking it?

Me and my mother are both getting vsg

i think it's going to be easier for you two, if you eat your meals together. misery loves company, right? as far as both of you recuperating at the same time, i hope her boyfriend and/or your little brother are the helpful types. some people do this without anyone helping out the first few days, but i'm thankful i will have someone home to help out. that's the only thing i can think of in answer to your question.

    Reevaluating goals?

really, only you can tell if you are going to be satisfied. i don't see why you couldn't try maintenance for a while, and then reevaluate in a month or two.
  6. my insurance company says no gain, but doesn't care how much i lose.

  9. wow, i'm following this thread to see what else people have to say... regular to me right now (pre-op) is 2 - 3 times per day! i wonder what will happen afterwards. i'd love to hear more about when people became regular without aids.

just had mine yesterday, coupled with a colonoscopy at the same time, and it went just like slasherms said. i too was more worried about this, and it was a nothing.
  11. Good morning, all! I had my endoscopy/colonoscopy yesterday. That was my last pre-op screening, can I get a huge WOOHOO?!?!?!?! What a journey this has been. Good to know that after every part of me has been poked, prodded and pricked that there were no surprise health issues uncovered. Now I have one final weighin next Tuesday, and then I should be ready to be submitted for insurance. I'm feeling practically giddy today! Possibly the results of fasting, colon cleansing and sleeping off the anaesthesia from yesterday? Nah, I'm just in a really positive mood and so happy to be done with this step! I've never had either test before, even though I'm 56 and should have had a colonoscopy already, according to all docs. I've managed to avoid this (by throwing out the scripts every year I get one)... can't say I'm a colonoscopy virgin any more, and if I have my way, I'll never have another one! That stuff you have to drink is so vile to me, I truly couldn't get it down as prescribed. I finally diluted it twice as much as instructed, and was able to do a little better, but I only managed to drink half as much as directed. I learned that the scope has a little vacuum which will clean out anything that remains, so IF I am ever forced to do this again, I know not to sweat it. I also lost 1.5 lbs from the fasting/cleansing, an added plus. I am now down 18 lbs since I started this journey. Not worried about the weighin next week now at all. Getting closer.......

    So now I am depressed......

@@sherripark, i'm so sorry to hear about the rough time you are having! *HUGS* i think your attitude is awesome, really... "today I am going to take advantage of being home alone and focus on drinking and eating 3 meals + a snack or 2 in hopes that good fluids & nutrition will help my mind and body.." that's a great plan. i've read that losing a lot of weight quickly releases a lot of hormones, so your depression could just be from that, which means temporary. however, from someone who deals with depression, please consider seeing a therapist. even short term, it helps to have someone to talk to who will be totally non-judgemental. i agree that you do need to find someone to follow up with locally about your surgery. i would be stressed personally if i wasn't feeling well and the surgeon was in another country. keep posting and reading on this site, you will learn a lot, and at the least, get a lot of commiseration! congrats on your weight loss, that's fabulous.

@@Carlagrant, make sure you find the threads that are specifically for people getting sleeved in October (I am too!) so you can share your stuff with people who are in the same place as you. It makes it easier, I think.
  14. i hear you, i was concerned about that too. i have the same drinking habits as you, except i don't do diet soda. i've decided to just trust what everyone else tells me about tastes and habits changing post surgery. about your job being physical... maybe you just won't need as much Water after the surgery, as you begin and continue to lose weight, because you won't be working so hard to do whatever it is you do? does that make sense?

    Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

My surgeon offers a three year program that isn't covered, and costs $1000. Not required but highly recommended. i'm going for it.

    October 2014

i expect to be sometime in October, but i won't get my date until after the insurance approves... which means after my endoscopy/colonoscopy next week, and after my last weigh in the week after, and after the surgeon's office submits me for insurance approval. the waiting sucks!! lol pre-op, i have to do 4 days of liquid only.

    Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

i am going tonight to the monthly support group meeting my hospital hosts. i've got to ask if i'm going to be in trouble because i'm not losing as much as they told me to during my 3 month preop diet. it's really stressing me out. i'm upset because i lost control and ate too much last night. this morning the scale was up 4 lbs!!!! so i'm back to being down 6 lbs out of the 14 they wanted. how is everyone doing on their pre-op weight loss regimens?
  20. jessiquoi

    "In between" sizes . . . . grrr

i lose from the top down as well, and can't wait to see how this looks after the surgery. ever since i started this pre-op diet, i feel like i look fatter than ever, because my belly seems to stick out more as i lose from the boobs up. if i wasn't 56, people would probably think i'm preggers right now!
