Oh no! Food Stage Confusion!
Adrienne21 replied to SolracSpree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doctor did not give me those options. my liquid diet was hard. two weeks of pure chicken broth and protein shakes. mashed potatoes are on the list of foods not to eat. it goes through the band, -
I know I told my doctor with me having a hispanic and black family it will be hard giving up bread, pasta, and rice. we can't even have tortillas, but it will be worth it.
-
we are not suppose to have it because Pasta and rice swells in the stomach and could cause food to get stuck in your throat or cause slippage.
-
You are human but mac and cheese is not one of the items you are suppose to eat. Try to get back in the ball game. the worst pain would be to experience a slippage or to have the band removed because of mistakes. I am five days after being banded and I am so tempted to eat solids but I do not want to risk the chance of ripping or hurting myself. Good luck!!

Hello, yes you can feel your port. it is slightly uncomfortable but it is bearable. I try not to touch it because of bacteria. but I wouldn't suggest it because it will still be tender. it is not bulgy or noticeable. The worst part of the surgery will be the gas. I would suggest you ask your doctor for something to help relieve the gas. use a heating pad when you go home. it really does help with the gas. and try to walk as much as you can handle. BEst of luck to you!!

From the album: before being banded
-
the heating pad really worked last night. now the only pain is from the port side. I feel like my staples are coming out. It's a little easier to drink water(maybe half a cup). I still don't have much of an appetite. I had about 2oz of protein shake. and that was all i could tolerate. I am assuming that it is because of the swelling of my stomach and throat. I am excited and ready to start shedding those pounds and living a healthier life... Even though I will never see pasta or rice again.

yes, my doctor said it was ok to take. you should ask your doctor just to make sure.

Officially nervous about recovery pain
Adrienne21 replied to Shante92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only pain I feel at the moment is from the gas. It goes from tolerable to unbarable. I am taking the pain meds they gave me but it is not really doing much to relieve the gas. I have been walking but I didn't want to overdo it and rip my stitches. good luck! -
Date set: July 11th - any other July banders?
Adrienne21 replied to aviva1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my band on july 1 of this year. I was feeling fine once I came out of surgery and then hours later I was hit with an annoying pain of gas. it is from the co2 gas they pump you with. They will tell you to walk it off. its been 4 days and the pain is horrible. I can't really eat(liquid diet) or drink water. I have five incesions and the only one that is tender is the port area. I've lost almost 40 lbs pre surgery and hope to lose even more. Good luck with your band.
