We are postponing my surgey. I am possibly going to change school districts and the new ones insurance pays fir lap band plus pays better and better insurance premiums. So I am sad to wait but it isn't too much longer. I have been waiting 10 years what's a few more months.

I have a high bmi my pre op diet is three weeks of protein shakes for two meals and one meal of 4oz lean protein, one cup veggies (not carb heavy) and one cup fruit (no bananas ) post op is a day or two of clear liquids, week of full liquids, week of mushy foods and then slowly incorporate solid foods. I have been told just to take small bites and chew well (should take 30 minutes to eat 30 bites) and you can eat darn near anything.

Check out bariatricfoodie.com for amazing pre op approved Protein shake recipes.

Look on Amazon I get my protein mixes there. I like the plain Isopure for adding to juice, broth, sf koolaid, yogurt and sf pudding.

Ok so I start my pre op diet in about 2 weeks. I know I will be able to eat again but not for a while and then much more carefully. So anyhow. I have a bucket list for the next 2 weeks. It isn't crazy just some of my favorite foods I plan to make for dinners. For example tacos are my favorite and I love hard corn shells. Pizza with artichokes, sausage and mushrooms (deep dish), my home made chicken strips and a few other things. Nothing crazy just stuff I know I will miss for a little while. I figure I don't plan to eat anymore than I normally would just make a few of my favorite dishes before the journey truly begins. I am both excited and apprehensive. Diets do not work for me this is why I need help. I can do three weeks. Have to keep my eye on the prize.

I actually never met a nutritionalist. I was given a book and paperwork with the diet written in it. It was all very fast! I have done a crap load of research for about the past 10 years! I am not worried just not looking forward to head hunger. I am an emotional eater, but knowing is half the battle...right? :/ lol

Any other September 2013 bandsters?

Did you talk to the true results people about financing and possible hernia as a way to get some money from the insurance toward surgery. That is how I am getting it. -
I would love that. Where in the valley are you. I live on the ASU poly campus. As for the first day. It was ok until about 10. I was starving. I only used one scoop and 8 oz of Water in my shake. I think if I use two scoops and 16 oz of water it will keep me full longer. My day starts at 5am, so it makes sense that 4 or 5 hours later I was starving. Gonna double it up tomorrow and see if that works. I could just make two 8oz shakes but that will be a pain when I am teaching, if I make one 16 oz and drink on it while teaching and I think that will work better, I hope. Now I just have to get my students in culinary to stop bringing me things like Peanut Butter banana bread! Lol

I found an amazing array of shake recipes found on bariatric foodie.com. If I wanted I could have a different flavor every day, twice a day for a good month. I am just trying out shake flavors that look interesting and eating healthier. I am very much looking forward to my peanut brittle shake I will be having for Breakfast tomorrow morning. I figured if I start cutting the carbs now that will be less I have to deal with when I start the actual diet. The reason for most people's headaches during the pre op diet is carb withdrawal. This way I can deal with the energy issues many seem to deal with and not the no carb/sugar headache.

I am surprised about that I have one scheduled before my surgery, and I am going the same place you are.
