Pre-Op Diet - Toughest thing I ever had to do
Helli replied to RD86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try adding a tbsp of sf/ff pudding and a tbsp of sf torani syrup, you can mix up the flavors and it is amazing. I like vanilla protein powder, cheesecake pudding mix and cherry syrup. Cherry cheesecake shake! Yummy! I also use chocolate protein, chocolate pudding, pb2 and chocolate syrup. Like a peanut butter cup shake. -
I am a high school sped teacher and have scheduled my surgery the Friday before fall break. I figure I will have a little more than a week for recovery and I am an inclusion teacher so there are 2 of us teaching. Should be ok, I have been very open even told my students about it. They were very sweet saying I am perfect the way I am. Lol they have no idea the pain that 288 pounds places on a five foot frame.

Any other September 2013 bandsters?
Helli replied to Irishflower79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is probably carb withdrawl causing the headache. Every time I tried the Atkins diet I went through the headache...Try tylenol or excedrin and a cool compress on the back of your neck. -
Is the pre-op diet a bit extreme?

Any other September 2013 bandsters?
Helli replied to Irishflower79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I thought about not saying anything. But, my sister had gp about 20 years ago and one of my dear friends here in AZ had gp as well. So I knew the people who mattered would support me. I am here if you need support. -
Any other September 2013 bandsters?

I know I can't wait. I am a teacher and at least being in school makes the time go by fast. My pre op is three weeks as well. I was going to have surgery before school and did pre op for about three days ...thought I was going to die! Lol seriously I was not prepared because it happened so fast. Had an insurance issue and had to postpone. This worked in my favor, part of the problem being during the summer I don't do much so food COMMERCIALS were killing me. I also was just using Protein shake straight and have since been able to research and find recipes for shakes that are yummy, no boredom eating, and truly teaching keeps me so busy I sometimes forgot to eat last year. So yeah... I am crazy excited. I talked about it all the time and felt my husband getting annoyed so now I just talk about it sometimes but mostly just read the boards. Are you telling people? I am and everyone is so wonderful and supportive. I even told my students (high school) and they were so sweet. They said I was perfect the way I am. Lol all 5 foot 295... nope 288 pounds, I substituted a Protein Shake for my normal McDonald's hash brown and mcmuffin and in a month lost weight! I also walk a lot at work now. My co-teachers room is pretty far and I have to walk back and fourth like 6 times. Lol forced exercise is what my hubby calls it. Lol -

I am in October but pretty close to Sept. because it is Oct. 4th. -
I have started back to work and the nature of it forces me to walk outside in the AZ heat for at least 15 to 20 minutes a day. I also started a pre - pre op diet replacing one meal a day with a protein shake. My regular was a Sausage McMuffin with hash browns and an iced tea. Now it's a protein shake and a Chobani fat free greek yogurt. I still do the iced tea.

I am freaking out a little. I said when the month started I was going to change my eating, then put it off to when kids start school, then when my husband stops being sick... ok enough! My husband is still sick but I can't be any good to him if I am unhealthy because of my choices. Wow! I can do this for myself and my family. Tomorrow I start by having a protein shake for breakfast instead of Jack In The Box, and a salad for lunch! I Can do this! My new Mantra!

Body fortress is what I use. Here is what I was told about the shakes...per serving at least 20 grams of protein, 7 grams or less of carbs/sugars and 5 grams or less of fat. Body fortress is what I use.

I tried this and it did not work for me. I have to had a cpap for about 10 years. I hope that will change after the band. I know it is scary but the thought of never waking up was worse for me. I still don't feel energized but when your 5 feet tall and weigh 295 pounds there is not much energy to be found. My husband is funny in that if I go away (to family out of town) he now has trouble sleeping with out my machine going. You will do what you want but know everyone here just wants you to be healthy, happy and alive.

Msapp77 and Dbackfan thank you I am learning so much from reading your posts. I don't get banded until October 4th but trying to get all the info I can before.

Bariatric foodie.com has recipes for turning a protein shake into ice cream or pudding. That is what I am hoping will make me feel like I am actually eating something. -
Obviously do what your doc says. Pre op diets are usually to shrink your liver. All docs are different and so are the patients. Your pre op diet is based on your bmi the higher it is the more restricted/long your diet. Mine is 3 weeks, 2 protein shakes, and one healthy meal (4 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies and 1 cup fruit).

I am a teacher as well I was scheduled for July 2 and had insurance issues so had to postpone. I am now scheduled for Oct. 4th the Friday before Fall Break. I was disappointed but here are the positives I can share with you. Most everyone I talked to said a week would be sufficient for a not labor intensive job. Also I seriously veg out during summer break, tried my pre op diet before I knew I had to change my date and 3 days made me crazy. Sitting in my house watching tv, soooo many food commercials. Back yard parties are always bbq's and I am a boredom eater...at least now the pre op diet will be while I am super busy, busy enough that this big food lovin' girl forgot to eat a few times last year. So October is not that long to wait and time will fly by. I know it sucks to wait for something you want so bad. I have waited 8 years for this a few more months should be fine. And also if it is early Oct. hopefully we will be able to have a little turkey on Thanksgiving! Lol
