300 pounds later....am I living a dream or is this in fact reality?
Desert cactus replied to Jim1967's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wonderful story, I have been banded since June 27, 2013 and have lost only a net loss of 3 lb. Yes, 3 lbs. do you have any tips to share with me? a lot of people talk about the green zone but I don't know if I ever will reach that point. Congratulations on your sucess and hope one day I can say the same. One of the reasons I am not loosing weight is because I have a low thiroid but, it is frustrating. Any suggestions will be greatily appreciated. Thank you, Maria -

Need Help!! Any suggestions for financing?
Desert cactus replied to Tami lynn's topic in Insurance & Financing
True Results (if they are in your area) will finance $5,500 if Care Credit denies. -
Nifty, They recommended to only walk for the first month or so until you go to your follow up visit. Irishflower, I am interested if we could find a day/time that works for most of us. I am off on Saturdays and Sundays, I live in Chandler.

I went through TR, got my surgery on June 27; I've lost about 20 lb. during my liquid diet (10 days, 7 pre-op and 2 post -op) and have not loose any more since then. I went to my first follow up last week and they told me that I can start exercising, so I am sure this will help. I am interested on joining your coffee group because I can not attend the one at True Results due to my work schedule. I am doing great as far as eating a lot less than what I used to eat.

Is the pouch to hold food in it or is just a passing throught
Desert cactus posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am confused, At my Dr. office they said that the "pouch" is not to hod food and that it is just a passing trough, that food should never stay/sit in there because it will stretches the esophagus and will eventually the patient start having problems with acid reflux/GERD etc. According with some post that I've read, you eat small amounts to fill the pouch and once it is full then you feel full and the food slowly moves to the big part of the stomach and that is the reason not to drink water. Which version is correct? -

Thanks Missy, I always enjoy reading your posts and replies. -
You will do gret, just take it one day at the time. The first day is the worst as you will be having withdrawal from sugars. Good luck!
-
I agree with Missy, I lost 20 lb. in 10 days, 7 days pre op liquid diet and two days of clear liquids after surgery and I have not loose any more since then, so it's been almost 4 weeks with no loss, I am focusing on eating the right food and eventually the way will come off. It could be that my body think it is in a starvation mode because I am not consuming more than 800 cal per day.

my Dr. said was 30 to 45 minutes.

water after being banded
Desert cactus replied to Adrienne21's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It takes a long time to get your Water since you have to take one sip at the time but it is important to do it otherwise you'll get dehydrated. One day I felt like getting dehydrated and it took me about an hour to take 32 oz of water. I keep a glass of water all the time and take a few sips every 30 minutes or so. Good Luck! -
Best thing to do is walk, the night of my surgery I was in a lot of pain and discomfort and I went for a walk around the block 3 times and got a massage the next day (gentle and only on the showlder) and that really helped me; the best think to do is walk as much as you can. My first few days I was walking 3 to 4 times a day.

Hi LessLeeI am doing better today, the only problem that I have experienced is that I can't burp, it is envarasing to say but since we are in the same boat; are you having any problems with that?
-
For the shoulder pain, try massage, it doesn't have to be professional massage, just have a relative or friend give you massage in your shoulder and that also helps, definetely walk, the first 3 or 4 days after my surgery I was goin to the stores just to walk and that help a lot. Good Luck!

4th day post surgery
Desert cactus replied to Neka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What it helped me to get the food taste and feel a lot better ( I am in my last day of liquids) is a special chicken broth that I make at home. Here is the recepe in case you would like to try. I've been having two to three cups a day sinse the day of my surgery and it has been very helpful. dark meat of chicken, fresh ment, onion, garlic, zukhini squash, carrots, and any other begetable that you would like to add, salt. Put a lot of Water in a pot and add the chicken, mint, garlic and onion and let it boil for about 30 minutes; add the rest of the vegetables and salt and let them boil until is cook, about another hour. Let it cool and separate all the meat and vegetables and keep the juise, I heat the chicken broth so it makes me feel like it is real food. Good luck to you. -

Bloated and Very Uncomfortable
Desert cactus replied to Joy332's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel the same way, well, I don't feel full when I drink, I am still on liquid diet but it helped me to make my protein shake in the shaking cup instead of the blender. My porblem is that when I drink I get some air in and it gets ready to get out trought burping but I can not burp, I think it has something to do with the surgery or with the Hietal Hernia that they fixed during surgery. I don't know but it is uncomfortable because I have to walk a lot in order for the gas to move arround. Hope it gets better. -

walking will help with the shoulder pain and massage will help shoulder and neck pain, it doesn't need to be profesional massage, just have a friend or relative to give you massage in that area and it will help a lot. Good luck! -
Hello everyone, I had my surgery on June 27 and thought I was ready to go back to work this morning but I decided to stay home for two more days or so. I did have a Hernia repair at the same time and I have the chest pain that Judy is talking about, I feel like is gas from drinking that usually comes out as people burp, but I can not burp, it feels that the gas gets ready to come out but it can't and it is when it hurts and I have to start moving to let it move arround. Will see how thing go; I don't see the Dr. until August 6.

Officially nervous about recovery pain
Desert cactus replied to Shante92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only pain that I experience was the gas pain, start walking the same day of your surgery after a good nap and walk as much as you can every day from then on. I started walking three times a day the next day after surgery Ana I feel a lot better.
