Someone else posted about a port flipping about a week ago. Don't remember what all people said about it, I was still in a drugged up state from surgery!

Need some advice, please no negeativity!
skb123 replied to betchaican's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went through the same sort of things only with my daughters. I got very cold feet about 10 days before my surgery. But I pushed through. I have to say all is well! I did lose 176 pounds prior to surgery. But felt this would be the tool that takes me to my goal. It wo. uld be hard if I had a husband not supporting me, I was widowed nearly 3 years ago, his problems were all weight related. At 58 I have too much to live for. I have a very supportive guy friend who is my best friend and he supported me all the way though, thank the good Lord for that! In the end it's really up to you, and you need to tell your hubby you just need his love and support. That's what I told my daughters. Best wishes to you no matter what direction you take. -
Finally Ready to Work Out! Your suggestions?
skb123 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I have only had my band for a very short time, working out is part of my regular day! Nearly 3 years ago I started my weight loss journey, It was December of 2011 I started on a regular work out routine.. I first started just doing a deep water aerobics class 4 days a week. About 3 months later I added strength training 3 days a week. After a while zumba replaced my water aerobics class. Now days I do some sort of cardio everyday of the week, and strength training every other day, your muscles need a day of recovery time. Although right now there is a lot I cannot do, but I can do the treadmill and bike so that's what I am doing till I can go back to my routine. Keep in mind strength training is very important for weight loss, it gets your muscles heated up thus your metabolism works better. Also muscle is what burns fat. I go to 24 hour fitness now, but I use to go to the YMCA and I had a personal trainer at the Y, something I cannot afford at the gym I'm at now. The YMCA had trainers who gave their time to help me. I am forever grateful! They even used my story for their fund raising program. I met a lot of nice people there and will forever be thankful for all they did for me. Best wishes for a sweating good time! -
You'll be fine it will go well I'm sure. But I will pray for you.

Somehow a post I made on another thread ended up here!

My surgeon says not pill larger than a pencil eraser. So the one med I do take is large so I went to a liquid. I am taking a liquid vitamin right now, but I was told chews work too, I will switch to gummy vitamins at the 4 week point. Liquid .itamins are rather costly.

Good job! Best wishes to you for a successful journey!

There are different procedures because we are all different. What works for one may not be the right choice for someone else. When I saw the surgeon I was open to her suggestions, I wanted the band, but if she felt something else would be better I was willing to think about it. However she felt that with the healthy habits I had already developed the lap band was the best choice for me. Also the fact that it was a way out should there be a problem. We all know that no WLS is a magic bullet, it is just a tool. It's like anything else it all has to do with what you are willing to put into it. I'm newly banded but I am not new to extreme weight loss. Just my thought on it all.

Drinking before getting Lap Band?
skb123 replied to bosscookie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As with any weight loss journey it's all about lifestyle change. I chose to change my lifestyle 2 & 1/2 years ago. For me my addiction was chocolates and sweets, and I'm a wholesale baker and cake decorator! It was hard but it was worth it, I was down by 176 pounds prior to getting banded. I chose to get a band so I could finish my journey and avoid gaining weight back. It's all about what is important to you, and are you ready for the commitment this requires. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you are a bad person for drinking, but are you ready for the huge lifestyle change and commitment this requires? -
Congratulation! You look simply fantastic! Good job!

I started out at 421 wearing a 46W or 7X I lost 176 before getting my band, 7 since so I have lost a total of 182. I now weigh 238 and wear a misses size 16 bottom and a 14 top I'd like to get down to 150 but will see I would be happy at 165. Oh I'm 5'8" tall. Funny thing was I was so excited when I was small enough to shop at Lane Bryant, now their clothing is too big for me, it opened a whole new world to me. Shopping for clothing is fun now!

Welcome to this side! Take care, get lots of rest and you'll be back up and running shortly! I totally agree this has been the best place that prepared me as well to move forward in this journey. I had lost 176 before getting banded on July 24th, now 7 more! I'm so very glad I decided to do this. I feel fantastic and you will too! Best wishes for a quick recovery!

I was told only if they were put in liquid and mushed to be no larger than cottage cheese. I don't eat them anyway so no biggie for me!
-
Most likely it is caused by the cucumber. Try mixing it up a little maybe add see if that helps. Cucumbers are very gassy thus the breed a burpless cucumber. Just a suggestion. Good luck!

I'm 10 days post op and still have some swelling My doctor said it is because of all the repairs she had to do. As far as BM's go mine have been pretty normal, but still liquids only so I only go every couple days. Oh sooner or later normal will resume!

My oldest daughter has it. It was brought on by the birth of her first child 4 years ago, she is 40 so she had her babies late. They medicated her than her thyroid went the other way. But she no longer has the buggy eyes. Her doctor said many times it is brought on my some sort of trauma to the system in her case it was having a baby. She did have to have invetro to have her 2 babies. However it does run in the family, she has a cousin on her dad's side who also has it. Strange thing in all of this is my other two daughters have hypo thyroid, So they all 3 have problems with their thyroid and I do not and their dad did not.

I lost 176 pounds prior to getting my band. I totally relate to this,I have family that is so jealous that I am not allowed to even tell someone when they ask me about my weight loss! It's crazy, people ask, when you go from a 7X to a 14/16 people notice. It is very hurtful when they me to shut up in front of people. I almost didn't tell them I was getting a band. But I figure it's their problem not mine!

I'm with you on that one!

Glad all went well for you. When I went to the hospital I was prepared to come home the same day only to find out my insurance required I spend the night. But that's all good, got a new toothbrush out of the deal! LOL Hope you have a quick recovery. I sure found I did, the only thing that remains is some swelling and gas! Oh well Gas-x does the job! Best wishes to you!

I got my band and a hernia repair as well as the removal of a lot of scar tissue July 24th. The funniest thing has happened I get hiccups quite often since than. I find it rather odd, I rarely got them before, but I can surely live with them. Told my daughter I feel like a little baby I get them so often! But on the bright side they do not last very long.

Now I get Hiccups all the time!
skb123 replied to skb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I am still on liquids for another week in fact. I do sip an ounce of water every 15 minutes as they suggested, but I may be drinking too much water. Thank you! -
Now I get Hiccups all the time!
skb123 replied to skb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just figured it was because I was full. Still on liquids only, yogurt is the closest thing to being food I get! And I eat vanilla, orange or lime so no lumps. But good to know, thanks for the advise! -
