It's been 3 weeks and I have no APPETITE... help I'm worried
skb123 replied to Live4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 5 weeks post op and can hardly get 800 calories a day in! I got very excited that I took in 924 yesterday but I had some peanut butter and that helped raise my intake. I do manage to get all the protein I need, so that I won't start losing muscle but I find that myself running out of energy when working out. I am shooting for a 1000 calories today, time will tell, -
I am so sorry this happened to you.. I was aware of this sort of problem, and also know that weight loss is the one thing that will help to avoid it. Seems strange that you have to lose weight to get the tool to lose weight! I had lost 176 pounds prior to getting banded so my surgeon felt I would have no problems to the extent that I did not have to do a pre-op diet other than 1 day. But just remember you are better off as they were looking out for your health, I know it must be very disappointing but in the long run it will be a healthier road for you. Keep on going one day at a time and it will happen and ultimately you will be healthier for it. Best wishes to you for a fast recovery.

Okay I was sure hoping to lose at least 15 pounds the first month. But yesterday got on the doctors scale and was happy to find I had lost 16 pounds in just 19 days since banding! Yeah! I know there are a lot of stories of good losses here, however I had lost 176 pounds prior to banding so I thought it might be slower for me. My surgeon told me I could expect to lose 30-40 pounds in the first couple months. But like I said I just did not expect such a good loss! Puts me just 8 pounds away from the 200 gone point! Maybe by my 1 month point who knows? Have a blessed day one and all!

What protein shake for your Pre-Op diet?
skb123 replied to PuraVida37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Powder and they had me mix it in milk for max protein. This is one of the best Whey Protein powders out there. And the nice thing was my gym sells it and they ran it half off right when I needed it! -
Some people complain of the shoulder pain for many weeks post op. I was one of the lucky ones and never had shoulder pain. I would check with my doctor to see if there is anything that can be done to relieve it.

First fill and weigh in total lost pre & post band loss of 200 pounds!!
skb123 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I'm happy to say my weight today was 221 making my total weight loss pre band and post banding a total of 200 pounds gone! I got the high five from everyone in the doctors office. I lost 176 pre band and 24 pounds since banding on July 24th! I feel fine since banding! Also found out they used a 10cc band because of my lower weight! Those words and me were never in the same sentence together!! OMG huge first for me. If someone had told me 3 years ago that I'd lose 200 pound I would have rolled on the floor laughing than they'd had to call 911 to get me up! All I can say is God is good, and who says life can't be fantastic at 58! Blessings to one and all! -
Good luck!

I took the first step!
skb123 replied to Journey2BNThin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulation on taking the first step to a newer you! I did manage to lose 176 pounds on my own, than hit the wall no losses for a year! So I decided in June to go forward with the band. Very happy I did! My PC who went through all the bad stuff with me didn't want me to have the surgery she felt I could lose it all on my own, but she was willing to support me in my choice to go forward with it. She just moved and today I saw my new PC for the first time. She was so impressed with all the former conditions that I had battled that had been overcome by my weight loss. She went down the list and removed 6 things that I no longer have. She said she was very supportive of my choice to get a lap band too, so I felt on board with her. She said my other doctor was there for the first 200 lost now she'd be there for the last 50 but I told her I really want more than 50! I told her I was cheating for the home run, but she said no you already hit a triple play! It was nice that the doctor is on board and supportive. I am glad that your PC finely sees it your way. I too previously had hypertension and was on 4 different blood pressure meds, I was taken off all of them. I currently only take medication for my seizure condition and all the weight loss in the world will take that one away!! I wish you all the best in your WLS journey I can tell you that you will have no regrets I am sure. -
Just started them today!! Had my follow up visit yesterday and they said chewables! But hey I got a fill so I'm back on liquids for a couple days so it gives me the chance to chew!

The next time somebody says that WLS is too radical....
skb123 replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes I have heard of that and seen it before. A woman was treated in the ER of the hospital I worked in, she had neyrictstucercisis of her brain, Come to find out she had gone to Mexico to have a tapeworm so she could lose weight. It resulted in holes in her brain and she died 4 days after entering the ICU. Insanity is all I can say. -
My band hates chocolate and sugars...I should be happy.
skb123 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I would check with a doctor about this. Since you say it is causing you to have slime sounds more like an esophageal problem and may not be the band. I worked in nursing for many years so I am speaking from previous work history. Just saying check with your doctor. -
My best advise is first see if you can get into a support group in your area. This is a good place for support but somehow I think you need more, people you can personally interact with. You might even want to post here to see if you can find people in your area to connect with. The support of people walling the same path as you is so very helpful. My success started 2 yeas before the band, and it was the support of trainers and others at the gym I attended that brought me the success I am having today. I feel your pain, I am 58 now but about 12 years ago I came to the realization if I did not change my lifestyle my fate could be the same as my mothers. She was just 18 when I was born, she has not been able to walk for 15 years or more due to weight, she has many weight related issues and see too has lived in a nursing home for 11 years now. Did I want that to be my life's story, NO! I will be praying for you dear one. Blessings to you today and always. ~Susan

How different do you feel?
skb123 replied to vincereautmori's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I started my weight loss journey October 1, 2010 when a doctor told be he'd be at my funeral within 2 years if I did not change. I than lost 176 pounds in just under 2 years, than I sat at the same weight for nearly a year and than decided to get banded. I use to wear a 7X only could special order clothing. 3 years ago I had a home health care worker I was in such bad shape, I couldn't even do my own house work! Now I do it all! Wear a size 14, and have lost nearly 200 pounds. I was banded July 24th this year and there is no looking back for me. No regrets here at all! Some ow the NSV's of weight loss are, before the loss I went to the zoo with my family and had to sit down every 15-20 feet, I got in and they had to take me out in a shuttle! My boy friend took me to the zoo and we ran all over for 8 hours and I never stat down once! I have been able to walk for miles just enjoying a fantastic day with him. He is 16 years younger than I am and I never could have kept up with him before. Life is fantastic and just keeps getting better! I never thought 58 would be so darn good! Best wishes to you!! -
Protein, you need more protein! Add a protein shake to your day it just might put you up there. You need your weight times .3 to get the daily protein required and I go the extra mile and try and go 5-10 grams over that. And don't forget you do need some fat in your diet. We tend to cut way back on fat, but there are healthy fats and it keeps your skin and hair healthier. Also lots of Omega 3's, fish and eggs are a good source, they are very good for your hair. My old nursing days coming back! LOL Good luck!
