feeling depressed and need a lap band buddy.
skb123 replied to amyturtle35's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded the day before you! I'm sure there are many who would love to help you. But have you checked with your surgeon to see if there is a support group in your area? I live in the suburbs of Portland, OR and there is a lap band support group that meets once a month. There are also other groups that include other WLS and people looking into having the surgery. Feel free to message me if you like I'd be happy to cheer you on! I lost 176 pre band and 24 since so I'm down by 200 pounds so I know all to well the ups and downs of weight loss. Wishing you all the best and many blessings to you. -
I was told to take children's liquid and I find it works pretty fast I think it is because it goes into your blood stream fast since it is a liquid. But than I rarely need to take it so no worries here.

Took the first step... few questions
skb123 replied to Drea_M's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I think if you are careful to take good care of yourself diet wise you should have no problems. The thing I like most is there is the possibility of removal if there is a problem, not so with the sleeve and by pass. Just a healthier way. Also studies show that it is a bit slower loss however 2 years out the total lost is the same as the other WLS procedures. I lost 176 prior to my banding but I feel it is the tool I need to reach my goal and also to maintain it. What ever you decided best wishes to you! -
I'm getting ready to have my 1st fill post-op.
skb123 replied to patd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do 2 days liquids and 2 days purees finely on regular food and I go in for another fill in 2 weeks. -
My insurance covers all but 13. a month of my membership at 24 hour fitness. I totally get my moneys worth I'm there just about everyday and I take zumba 4 days a week. I go to a super sports club and my friend pays 59.99 a month for the same membership as I have. Many insurance companies cover it, it is call the wellness program so that's what you need to ask for when checking with your insurance.

Most likely the best thing to do is water exercise that way there is no strain on your joint.

I tend to forget to eat! Like today I totally forgot to have lunch, just wasn't hungry. Now I'm trying to get all my protein in, thus a 30 gram protein drink for me! But I only got 800 calories in. I need to stay more aware of eating.

I was told I could drive as long as I was not taking pain meds.

More protein and omega 3's in your diet will help. I lost 176 prior to getting banded and I started to lose my hair but when I started watching my protein intake and kick up the omega 3's in my diet my hair got thick and healthy. To figure the amount of protein you need per day multiply your weight by .3 and it will give you the amount you need per day. I try an get more than that each day and I always drink a protein shake after my workout. Good luck!

Cooking with countertop convection oven
skb123 replied to Cindy Fischer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a wholesale baker and I only cook with convection. It cooks faster and even, as well as you can put more in the oven at one time. You will love it! My home oven is also convection as well, it's great for holiday baking, I can bake 6 pies at one time! Enjoy your new oven. -
Yes I do a good work out everyday and when I do weights too I can end the day with negative calories. Try as I might I can't seem to get in but maybe 1000 calories on a good day! I use Lose It, it is the same as my fitness pal. Its hard when my workout burns 900+ calories. Well its all good!

My surgery was 6 weeks ago and the one thing that I would notice is I get gassy quite easy. But if that's all I've got its all good! Feel better.

I made beef Wellington this past Sunday for my guy friend and I just ate a little piece of the meat. I must admit I missed eating the yummy puff pastry and other goodies that are on it, but well worth it. Pizza was my big last food, my guy friend took me to my favorite pizza place Flying Pie, and it was darn good! Good luck to you!

Just get a letter from your doctors office it will work they have to let you go. I had that happen after an auto accident and I just had to send in a letter from my PC. Good luck!

Ice Cream! Blue Bell's No Sugar Added, LF Dutch Chocolate

Thus I only go out to get fat free sugar free frozen yogurt! Once in a while I buy some of the WW frozen treats that are 90-100 calories each, thus portion control is taken care of for me. Well on that note I need to head off to the gym shortly. -
Well I decided to let my friends know I got banded. At first I felt that they would be disappointed in me as I had lost 176 on my own. But I couldn't have been more wrong. I got such good support and reactions from everyone. I own a wholesale bakery we make all sorts of pastries, cookies, bars, and cakes for coffee shops and other places including grocery store bakeries. So every Monday I bake and donate and serve at homeless dinner program. One of the other workers at Hopes Table came up to me and said he was so proud of me taking such a step to maintain your health. I responded by saying yes I am cheating for the home run! He said yes, but you had already hit a triple! I realized at that point my friends are my biggest cheerleaders and we all need affirmations don't we? So if you've been afraid of letting others know what road you're walking they just may be your biggest supporter!

Going for my first consult tomorrow!
skb123 replied to Mward's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The best thing I have done for myself! I had lost 176 prior to surgery, but I wanted to lose more and maintain. I just felt this was the tool I needed. It just makes me really aware of every bite I take. For nearly 3 years now I have written down every bite, lick or taste I have taken. If you bite it write it! But the band makes it so I am limited and really need to think about what goes in my mouth. My insurance paid all but 2 $20. co-pays! They also did not require me to go through months of pre banding appointments like most insurance companies do. My surgeon required 4 appointments before I saw the surgeon but that was it! If I were ask if I'd do it again I'd say in a heartbeat! Good luck -
Stuck episode- no fluid in band
skb123 replied to conner281's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I guess my choking on a hot dog some 30 years ago did have some long term pluses to it. I am always extra careful with meats and cut them really tiny and have for 30 years now! So I have not gotten stuck yet. I am sure it will happen if I am not extra careful but I chew the living daylights out of my food! -
My chest was the first to go, I went from a 54DDD to a 36B with room to spare! My insurance is covering my tummy tuck, breast lift and the removal of the skin on my upper arms. since the skin lays on skin so it is a hot bed for infection. That's all good to me! The surgeon who will do my surgery said she will have to put in breast augmentations to lift my breast, well that's all good! But I am waiting to lose 40 more before I have anything done. For now I wear a nice well fitted bra with lots of padding and lift to it!

Hi everyone I'm new.... Can anyone help?
skb123 replied to Zingythingy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maybe you just need a small unfill. But my best advise is see your doctor. You don't want to wind up with other issues that are more serious. -
Yes I am treated much differently since my weight loss. My daughter use to say people treated us like we weren't even there! Now days I get men opening doors for me, wanting to help me and just talk to me. I'm the same person I was the package is just smaller. It's really sad that most people judge you strictly by what you look like and not who you are.

Exercise question: When can I start jumping and jogging?
skb123 replied to heather316's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I was told at my post op appointment all was a go, but it is up to your doctor they know what's best for you. -
My insurance will cover it due to the extreme amount of weight I have lost, in fact they will do it now, but I want to lost at least another 40 before I have it done. My insurance will cover my tummy tuck, the removal of the excess skin on my upper arms and lifting my breast because of the skin on skin is a risk for infection. I have already seen the plastic surgeon and my PCP keeps asking me. But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!

Excited and Scared on this journey
skb123 replied to Cherry31's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As you yourself stated everyone is different. My doctor said I could return to work in 1 week unless it was physical work than 2 weeks. I own my own business so I had arranged for a month off! Being the boss does have some advantages! As far as the recovery goes mine seemed pretty easy. I did not have the shoulder pain that most get just a few days of discomfort that was all. As to food I was on 2 weeks of liquids protein shakes twice a day than 2 week puréed foods and now soft foods for 2 weeks. This week it's on to a regular diet. But all in all worth every bit! You'll do fine but butterflies are to be expected! Best wishes to you. -
They have from a 32A to 42DDD and they are very good at fitting you in the right bra.
