Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
redins replied to DeLarla's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Down one year and 72lbs! 28 to go!!! -
I have BCBS of MN and after a year long diet I have finally been approved!!! I'm so excited! I meet with Dr. Eibes on June 26th to pick a surgery date (his nurse indicated that they are scheduling surgeries 3 1/2 weeks out). I have a two week vacation in July so I don't want to start the pre-surgery diet on vacation and I can't miss any more work in July so I'm hoping for an Aug 5th date  I plan on posting when I get the date!!!

I think I may be overfilled...I'm not going to complain. I have dropped a lot of weight since my appt last week. I now have 7.25cc's in a 100c band. Things have been going well. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese for lunch. I have an afternoon snack of Protein Shake. For supper I have 1/2 cup of some type of protein. I have also been visiting the gym like it is my new best friend. So according to my scale I have lost 55lbs in almost 6 months. Just over halfway to goal! I go back to the doc in early March I hope I can hold out until then but I'm not so sure. I am starting to feel worn down and super tired...I hope to see if I feel better after the weekend...

Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY

Six months out and 50lbs gone for good!!! 253 on surgery date and 197 now -
So on Wednesday I went in for another fill. I now have 6cc's in a 10cc band. I officially feel restriction now! I was so excited to actually feel it! I had gone nearly 5 weeks without feeling anything...and my appetite was definitely in full force. I go back in three weeks to see how I'm doing. I was really disappointed to have only lost 1 lb in 5 weeks. So I am really hoping I am back on track now. I had wanted to hit the 50lb mark by Thanksgiving or Christmas. Hopefully I won't be too far off even with the 5 week set back.

So yesterday I got my first fill. Really not that big of a deal...it didn't hurt all that bad I think it was more of the mental part of it. (I had no clue what to expect next time I know ) So I had to be poked three times the surgeon couldn't get the needle into the port because it isn't sitting flat and because of scarring. I have a bit a bruise but I don't notice much. I was liquids yesterday and puree today and regular food starting tomorrow. The injected 3cc's and I go back in two weeks to have another 1-2cc's put in. I can't wait for this to all really start. I have only lost one more pound since my follow-up after surgery...I'm super disappointed with that fact considering I have not eaten anything bad since and I am eating a lot less.

I had my second fill, the PA only put in 1cc to a total of 4cc's . I have lost 7lbs in 2 weeks...which is awesome! I talked with him and said that I really wanted to have 2cc's put in. He said that he was happy with the weightloss but said I could come back in two weeks for another fill. Oh yeah, he got the port on the first stick this time!!! Here's to hoping I have a 7 lb weightloss again

Congrats!! I hope things continue to go well for you.

To be honest I don't notice a difference. Maybe a bit when I eat Breakfast...the rest of the day I don't feel anything. I'm wondering if they even got the port. I go back on Wednesday for another fill, so I guess I will find out. Did anyone else have bruising from the fill? I still have a bruise the size of a fifty cent piece above my port...

Gas pain please help!!!!!
redins replied to kgranite79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a lot of walking but found that a heating pad worked wonders!!! -
I had my surgery on August 5th and stayed overnight in the hospital. So here I am having gas pains but in my shoulders. It feels like a knife. I have walked so much that I would think that it would be gone. I don't have an urge or a feeling to burp, would this help me? I walked around my house last night for an hour moving my arms around in hopes that the gas would get out. I am at a loss and the pain is terrible, other then that my abdomen feels okay just stiff. I think I will try the warm jello tonight, Lord knows I have about 20 boxes of the stuff :tt2:

So as of yesterday I am officially a bandster. I am having a lot of back and shoulder pain (due to the gas used while preforming laproscopically, spelling?). I ended having to stay in the hospital because they had to do a major hietal hernia repair. Needless to say I am now starting to feel the pain. I look forward to the journey and the challenges I will face. But most of all I look forward to being healthy and enjoying life!!! I will admit that although I am excited, I am also wondering what the heck I was thinking. But hey this is where I am at and this is for me darn-it.

I am with you there!

I plan on using Dr. Eibes as well. As another reply indicates, Dr Eibes used to be with the Grinnell group but came to Des Moines to start a program in Central Iowa. I am currently on month 8 of my dr. supervised diet (insurance requirement) I hope to have the lap band surgery in May, as long as eveything works out! I'm super excited!

My insurance requires a year long Dr. supervised diet. I have been on more then my share of diets/exercise plans. Unfortunately my dr.'s have never been willing to follow my progress. The normal response when I requested help with losing weight was "eat healthy and exercise", I'm thinking if that was all the help I needed I wouldn't be asking for help. My question is has anyone needed this same year long diet and been able to get around this (without private pay)? If so how did you do it? Thank you in advance for any help!

I would be interested as well in any info regarding BCBS of MN. I have the list of requirements, but have never been on an official Dr. supervised diet. I'm hoping this can be self report. I have never been successful in getting support at helping me with losing weight. The one thing a Dr. said was eat healthier foods...which is a no brainer. I have tried weight watchers, low fat diets, and a whole lot of exercise. Nothing stays off for long. I would really like to get this done in early summer, so that hopefully I can lose some weight before my cruise in September. So any help so that I can start preparing now would be great.
