Hi everyone!
My name is Marianne. I am 63 yrs old and am insured through United Health Care AARP Advantage insurance. I have been researching WLS for 2 yrs now and finally had my 1st appt with the surgeon in Dec 2013, and the nutritionist in Jan 2014. So now I want to connect with people who are on their journey so I can get my head in the right place and realistically set my mind to what my eating plan will be like for the rest of my life. I'm not too worried about missing favorite foods (except maybe pasta which is my weakness). My biggest worry is learning to eat slow enough with small enough bites. I've always been the eat-on-the-run type person, scarfing down as much as I can in a short period of time. I'm also a flavor hog. Most times after I know I'm full, I just want more and more of that good taste. I don't have a problem with cakes, pies, cookies, donuts, etc unless someone brings them into my house....then I have to eat them until they're all gone, but I don't ever buy them myself. I have had a weight problem most of my adult life. Just 4 yrs ago I was diagnosed with lymphedema. Never had cancer or any other known reason for lymphedema to occur but it has settled in my lower body and is now so pronounced that it's nearly at the elephantitis stage. With my weight problem and lymphedema, I am now bedridden. The doctors are of the agreement that the excess weight is more likely from the lymphedema then fat, but lymphedema is caused from the lymphatic system malfunctioning and is worsened by putting on excess weight, to the point where it's hard to determine which came first. Whatever the case, I am now on my WL journey. Well, I guess that's about it for my story. Best wishes to all and thanks in advance for any help and advice you can give me.
