  1. Let me just say, while the holiday season has been wonderful with my family, it has been horrible on the scale. There was one big obstacle to my goal weight/size this December and that was a stupid fall I had in my kitchen. I turned around and stumbled backwards after tripping over an open dishwasher door and BAM, concussion. I waited 9 days before going to see the doctor, but the headaches and general fuzziness was just too much and I had to get myself looked at. Don't you know I had a moderate concussion and was told to stay home from work and was put on "brain rest". OMG, so boring and going to the gym was completely taken off of the table. The concussion on top of the never ending food parade in our family, I guess I should be happy I only put on 3 pounds. I was supposed to wait until 1 January to start working out, but I am feeling MUCH better and I have been doing light workouts for the last three days and I feel fantastic. I guess I'll just put my nose back to the nutritional grindstone and keep hitting the gym. Basically, get back to do what I need to support my healthy living goals. I had my first fill at the end of November and I felt absolutely NO restriction so I'm going back on the 22nd of January to have another fill, hopefully this one will put me back on track because honestly, I'm damn hungry. I'm craving crunchy anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for crunchy Snacks. I'm turning orange, no I'm not really, from eating all of the carrots that I'm eating. There is a lot of other stuff going on, just like everybody else's crazy life. The one big thing is that the Army has chosen to move my husband from Ft. Campbell, five hours from home, to Ft. Lewis, Washington, which is a stupid long plane ride away. He has been at Ft. Campbell for almost three years now and I've been spoiled and frankly don't want him to be so far away. I'm struggling not to fall back into old habits like eating because I'm sad, it is sooo hard not to eat, especially since I'm hungry. Arghh. Thanks for letting me vent, time to put on my big girl panties and go on with life.

    Brutally Honest Today

Hi Ohio Girl!!! I get a lot of flack because I don't move with my husband and it is great to hear that someone else chose the same thing as me. I'm so excited to hear about your surgery, it has changed my life and I'll be thinking about you on Wednesday. I would love to keep in touch with you, to make an Army wife friend. There are next to no military families where I live, it would be great to hear from you. If you have any questions or concerns that I might be able to address, PLEASE let me know.

    Brutally Honest Today

Relocating with my husband is not a reality, I'm in education, I have my dream job, and try tenure. There is no way I'm going to give up job and paycheck. Additionally, I stay here because we have a number of elderly relatives who need help with whatever comes up on a daily basis. My husband is near retirement, so I don't want to give up our home, which is paid for, to follow him around, especially now because he's probably going to Afghanistan in the spring. I'm kind of the hub of the family wheel here. I'm excited to get this new year going, although it didn't sound like it in my post, and I know what I need to do, I just need to get out of my way mentally. I feel so great that I am back to the gym, that helps a lot.
  4. I had my band put in on 12 August, I've lost 34 pounds and the doctor decided to put a fill in this afternoon, because I've only lost 1 pound in the last 3 weeks. I was so worried it would hurt or well, I didn't know how it would feel. It was nothing!!!!!!!!! Ok, so having a needle stuck into your stomach is not normal, but it felt like a soft pinch. The weirdest part was when he pulled the needle out; he said I would feel a slight pulling sensation, slight my Aunt Fanny!!! It felt like my bellybutton was being pulled out, although there was no pain, it was a sensation I had never felt before and that is saying something for a 52 year old! I go back in a month, sot see if I've kept up with the 1-2 pounds a week. I'm ready to hang out at the gym everyday and become LESS of a person, LOL.
  5. For years, I never really wore a warm winter jacket, just a heavy sweater and a scarf. I'm sitting here in Ohio, it was really cold this week and I'm having trouble staying warm. I am NOT complaining, just making an observation, but I got to go out and buy a nice winter coat! I'm sitting here with a giant sweatshirt, that used to be tight, wrapped in a blanket eating beef vegetable Soup, nice and warm. I mentioned this to someone at work yesterday and they said I was losing my R-Factor, I about fell off my chair!! Anyway, anyone else in a cold climate having this issue?
  6. I'm now 4 months post-op and haven't had a fill yet. I've lost 34 pounds just following what I should eat and watching the volume of food I eat. I'm going in on the 21st to have my first fill. I love soup, I can't imagine life without soup, I love it, regardless.
  7. I have a bad cold, I'm craving some comfort food, heavy, warm comfy foods, what in the heck can I eat?
  8. I forgot I had made some Avgolemono Soup a couple of weeks ago, and froze the extra. I just heated some of that up and it really hit the spot!!

    Ummmm.....constipated

I'm having the exact same problem, I have been taking a stool softener and that seems to help. I'm not complaining too much about it, because I feel so good otherwise. I go to the doctor for my first fill on the 21st, and I'm psyched to have the fill before Thanksgiving.
  10. First I usually check their nutritional information on line and start to make decisions well before I go to the restaurant. My dietician gave me a card so I can order off of the kids menu, the card verifies that I've had bariatric surgery. I usually order some kind of grilled Protein and double veggies. I'm feeling so good and looking fantastic, there isn't anything that is going to get in my way of reaching my goal.
  11. 12. I was banded on 12 August 13 and I still have not been banded! I'm not losing weight right now, but I am losing size, go figure. I've been seriously committed to working out so I'm chalking it up to building muscle. I no longer look like the Michelan Man, with all of those rolls!!!! I go back on on the 21st and the doctor said that he will most certainly put a fill in. I'm excited to kick my weight loss in gear. Hang in there, it is still really soon after your surgery, too soon to get a fill.
  13. I was in the beauty salon the other day and people were fawning over me and how good I looked, I wasn't minding it all and my stylist asked how the whole system works. After I was done explaining, she asked if she could see my scars, which are minimal. She then asked if she could feel the port, no problem!! She felt it and said it felt like a baby's foot!!!!!!!!!!! I felt it and darned if she wasn't right, it felt like a baby's foot. Just about dropped on the floor laughing!!!!!!
  14. I just weighed myself this morning and I hit the 30 pound mark, YEA!!
  15. Most of my bandages fell off right away, I just put a bandaid over the small ones and I put a big patch over the largest opening, no big deal.
  16. My surgery date was 12 August of this year. I'm super excited I've done this w/o a fill yet, that is very cool.
  17. The body pillow is a good idea, but also take a regular pillow with you to the hospital to help on the ride home. The seat belt can be kind of irritating on your sensitive abdominal area, and the pillow is a safe, wonderful cushion. I'm almost 2 months post op and I've lost 30 pounds, without a fill, so even when you get hungry on your pre-op diet hang in there, I feel better than I have in years!!! Best of luck to you on your choice to get the band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. So, I'm almost 6 weeks post op, I went to the dr's office today for another follow-up and I have lost 27 pounds!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, the doctor was happy, the nurse was happy, and I was over the moon!!!!!!!!!! Down from a size 20W to a 16 and I'm feeling great! What a fantastic day today is, going to mark this on my calendar as a red letter day, YEA!!!

    Fantastic Dr's Appt!!!!!

Well, the good thing is that I'm not having too much hunger. Because I have my head in the game now, I know that the hunger is not a bad thing, I'm not going to die, it's just a signal.

    Fantastic Dr's Appt!!!!!

The Dr. said he wasn't going to fill me until I hit a plateau. He said that every once in a while he has a patient who is in the green zone with just the little bit he filled during surgery. He told me that if I stopped losing my 2-3 pounds a week, I could call and he would get me in to do a fill. I'm telling you that I feel the real reason I'm losing weight because I have my head in it. I have never had my head in the game before and I'm happier than I have ever been. Weight has been the only thing in my life that has been out of control and it feels so good to be in control of it, finally.

What's on your goal bucket list?

I want my husband to be able to put his arms all the way around me! I want to get my sexy back, and leave the lights on. ???‰ I want to wear a size 10, not a 20W, which was where I started. (By the way, I'm down to a 16W, yea!) I want to do yoga without being the fat lady in the room. I want to grow old, and not have an obesity related disease be the reason I died. I want to be a positive role model for my adult daughter, regarding living a healthy lifestyle. I want to cross my legs easily. I want to not have to tell my husband to wait on me when we go on bike rides. I want to know what's it like to not have to go into a speciality store to buy clothes. I want to be the real me, not me wrapped in a fat suit!!

    Thought it would be hard

I found success once I got me head around the life change concept. I'm loving my lap band more and more everyday. Once I viewed my lap band as a tool, that helped me wrap my head around weight loss. Weight watchers, Jenny Craig and Atkins is a tool for some, but the lap band was indeed the most successful tool for me.
  23. Hang in there, when I went in for my first post op, I had lost a total of 14 pounds and was worried that I didn't loose enough. Both the doctor and the nurse said that it is not uncommon for people NOT to have lost weight. They made a point to tell me that I should NOT compare myself to anyone else. Weight loss is intensely personal and I should focus on how my clothes are fitting, or not fitting. Be patient, let yourself heal and don't be a slave to the scale. If your doing what you need to be doing, the weight will come off.
  24. I would like to put some protein bars into my Daily food intake, but I'm not sure which is best for me nutritionally. There seems to be a wide variety in regards to calories and protein, does anybody have any suggestions for lower calories and higher protein and especially protein bars with not so much sugar in them. Any advise would be greatly appreciated look forward to hearing from you all.
