    npo before fill?

I'm going for my first fill this afternoon and while they didn't tell me I needed to be npo before, I almost think I should be. Just curious if any of you had to be no before your fills!
  3. I'll be two weeks post op on Tuesday and for there past couple days I've noticed my appetite has increased significantly, as well as the amount of food I'm able to consume. At first I was losing weight consistently, but for the past several days I haven't lost anything and have actually gained. I obviously haven't had a fill yet, I'm scheduled for the 21st, but I'm so worried right now about a band slip! When I had my post op appointment last week, my surgeon told me I could eat pretty much what I wanted except red meat, but I've still been pretty conservative about what I've eaten. Did anyone else feel like they could eat anything a couple weeks after surgery?

    Adoption

Congratulations to you and your wife!
  5. I have one more week until my first fill and I can not wait. Not only will I be four weeks post op then, which means I can dive deeper into my workout routine and lift weights, but I want to leave this bandster hell behind me! I've done well with maintaining my weight over the past two weeks, but I feel like I can physically eat whatever foods I want, in any portion size. I won't lie, I've eaten a couple things I shouldn't have (I have a terrible sweet tooth), but I've really been trying hard to not gain any weight before my first fill. I'm very thankful for MyFitnessPal because it totally keeps me in check when I have to track my food!
  6. Surprisingly, even though I've been very overweight most of my life, I've very rarely hard issues with chaffing in my sensitive areas. But since I've been losing weight, I've had a terrible time with chaffing in my groin area, and underneath my belly/pubic area. It hurts horribly bad and I'm miserable! I tried to find some of that Monistat soothing chaffing cream, but I couldn't find it at Walgreens tonight. I'll have to look somewhere else tomorrow. Has anyone else had this issue as they were losing weight?? It makes no sense that I'm having this problem considering I'm smaller now!
  7. I am two weeks post op today (yay!!) and I feel like finally, for the first time in my life, I am starting to get to know my body and listen to what it's telling me. I'm finally figuring out how to eat until I'm no longer hungry, not until I'm about to vomit from thinking I need to eat every morsel of food in front of me. I'm down 30lbs since I started the pre-op diet, which is just amazing. People I haven't seen much in the past 3 weeks have asked me if I'm ok because the amount of weight I've lost is noticeable in my face and stomach. Of course, they didn't know I had the Lap band done! I feel like I'm in control of my body for the first time ever in my life, and I'm so happy with myself!

    Let's Start Here!!

Hi everyone! I'm Sarah from central Illinois. I've been an RN for 9.5 years, the majority spent in cardiology, the last 3 in cardiac intensive care. I love critical care. I'm a mom of two (13 year old son, 7 year old daughter) and I've been happily married to my husband, Bill, for 8 years. I was just recently banded on 9/24/13. The biggest struggle I've had so far is trying to meet my dietary and fluid requirements while at work! But I'm find ways to make it work, and my coworkers are awesome and VERY supportive in my journey!

    Getting to know my body

Thank you! It's amazing how eye opening this whole process is. You will soon be there..less than one month!
  10. Today, my husband and I joined the YMCA so that we will have somewhere to exercise during the cold winter months. It's also very convenient that the Y is located across the street from the hospital I work at, so I really have no excuses not to go! We're scheduled to go Thursday morning at 10am for an orientation on the equipment, and then I plan on taking the kids Saturday so we can do some swimming.

    Joined the YMCA today!

The discount I receive through my employer is a huge factor in why we joined the Y and not another gym. I get 50% off the monthly price for my entire family, so I'm paying just over $30 a month for my whole family. That's a great deal! Plus, not only is the Y we're members of right by my work, but there's another Y about 20 minutes from our house that we can also go to for free. So I have no excuse not to go to the gym when I'm working or off!
  12. On my days off, I have no problems meeting all my dietary requirements that go with having my band. But on the days I work, I feel like I'm struggling a lot. Im a nurse and I work in critical care and there are days I can't even go pee when I need to, let alone be able to take a full lunch. Most days we're lucky if we even get lunch. Those of you who work odd hours/schedules, how do you deal?
  13. I only took a week off. My boss is wonderful and is letting me work while I'm on a lift restriction. My doc said probably 4 weeks of no lifting.

    back pain

Gallbladder pain can refer to the shoulder blades and is usually accompanied by nausea and/or vomiting. It is not pleasant! That said, I've noticed since having my band that if I eat too much or drink too much at once, I have pain in my shoulder blades, specifically the left side. I feel that discomfort well before I get a "I'm satisfied" feeling from my gut.

    Anyone else?

Yes! I'm almost two weeks post op and I'm having this issue. I haven't had a fill yet, but some days (like today) I can't hardly eat anything. But yesterday I felt like I didn't even have the band at all! Its crazy!

  19. It's perfectly normal, that's what they are supposed to do. Some of them will hang on and eventually make you crazy enough that you'll pull them off!
  20. Thank you guys so much for the reassurance. I pretty much had myself convinced that I'd slipped the band. I've been making healthy choices with the foods I have eaten, trying to really watch carbs because that seems to work well for me. I knew about "bandster hell" but I guess I was just still high on the major pre and immediate post op weight loss I'd had that I didn't even take that into consideration. Thanks again for the replies, I'm so glad that I have this forum and all of you!
