Thanks for asking this question. I've wondered the same thing. -
Healthier chicken salad, pureed or mushy
txsonicguy replied to allysonwhitt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Chicken salad is like my favorite food. Learning to modify it has been fun for me. I like to McKinney in diced apples or grapes and diced dill pickle for the sour contrast. Since i no longer eat it as a sandwich, I use it as a dip and use thick cucumber slices (peeled of course) as my "chips". Yummy! -

It's amazing to me how different each persons plan seems to be. -
I had my surgery through TR on June 11. I have my first fill scheduled this Thursday. For those of you that have used TR will someone at this meeting talk to me about nutrition, meals, etc? At this point I haven't met with anyone except the nurse who did my pre op assessment. I went in late Friday afternoon for a consultation, that rolled into the pre op assessment. Ten days later I had my scope and then 14 days later surgery. I met my surgeon on his way into the operating room. In fact after he talked to me I remember panicking because I realized just then that my band wasn't going to have Fluid in it and I had this "vision" of starving to death for the next 4 weeks! Don't get me wrong, the people I've talked to at TR have been nice, I just read on here about people meeting with nutritionists and their surgeons and nurses and I'm thinking how nice that would be. I'm hoping to see some of that Thursday.

This is a very interesting thread, and a good question for us newbies. -
Tattoos after weight loss
txsonicguy replied to aviva1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This really has nothing to do with weight loss by reminds me of a funny story. At Disney World one time I saw this older lady (maybe 65 ) and she had a tattoo of Elvis on her left upper arm. As age does to us all, the skin it that area was not very giving. It had stretched out and become rather flabby. Elvis looked like one of those Tiki Gods with the 'one stretched out faces! I will never forget that lady. -

True Results question

Richardson as well. I really didn't do any research (shame on me). I went in just for a consultation and came out with surgery scheduled. My wife compared it to going to the fair and coming back having purchased a hot tub. I don't have "buyers remorse" at all, just feel a little in the dark when compared to what I read other people's experiences are. -
Fyi.. Unjury protein
txsonicguy replied to ShantelleElaine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The unjury I ordered came in pouches. I mixed the unflavored into crystal lite lemonade and OMG it was horrible. I couldn't believe that something could taste so bad. It was probably a knee jerk reaction but I tossed all the rest. -
When you eat untoasted bread or something your body can't handle. Only been on solids a few days and found myself nervously eating at a funeral service yesterday. I ended up eating some regular sandwich bread and about a third of a tortilla wrap. To this point I've only eaten toasted 45 calorie wheat bread. Had no problem getting it down. Honestly if it weren't for the incisions across my chest I'd start to wonder if I really had anything done. But late last night (and all day so far today) I have a pain across my lower left side and into my mid abdomen. I'm extremely nauseous and having diarrhea. It hurts to even bend over. It reminds me of he first day after the surgery. Any clues? Did I get the bread down and now it's just siting there? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. My surgeons office is closed the entire week for the holiday. Thanks.

What does it feel like
txsonicguy replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So - an update. Just got home from the ER - sent there by surgeon. Turns out the pain is from cellulitis. A bacterial infection of the skin cells. Last night my wife noticed that the area I was complaining about looked a bit red and felt warm. This morning it was bright red and hot to the touch. So I got a round of IV antibiotics and the promise that if its not down tomorrow when I go back, I get to spend the long holiday weekend as a guest of my local hospital. My 5 year old son does think its pretty cool they drew a big black circle on my tummy with a Sharpie. Hopefully I will start to feel better tomorrow. I'm so glad for a "pushy" wife. -
What does it feel like
txsonicguy replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Didn't think it was a "stuck" based on how y'all describe it. Really feels like I swallowed a football and its just sitting in my gut! Thanks for all the insight. It's only been a couple of weeks and you guys have really been an amazing help. -

A great treat - take cooked quinoa and serve it with warm fat free milk, Splenda and cinnamon. It's AWESOME.

Well today is one week. Weighed in down an amazing 28 pounds since last Wednesday! Shocking what going from 5000+ calories a day to barely over 500 can do.

One week weigh in
txsonicguy replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't prepared for the weak feeling 3-4 days after surgery. To be honest I'm counting the days to be done with these $&$! Shakes! Several on here have said "if you can get through the liquid diet you can conquer anything". I'm counting on that. -
My mom, my biggest cheerleader, made me feel so alone tonight for the first time in this journey.

Haven't had any yet and this is an issue for me - I have 17 Sonic Drive-ins! At my pre-op meetings they told me to limit soda (diet only obviously) but to pour it over ice - never straight from can or bottle - and let fizz subside. We'll see.

Great videos man. You're about a month ahead of me. I'll keep watching!

Banded on Friday
txsonicguy replied to cassandramontes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded a week ago tomorrow and asked the EXACT same question. I assumed its the drastic reduction in calories. Called the docs office and they said to double up on shakes or get ones with more protein. I'm so sick of the shakes already I just can't pull myself to do either. I have felt not so weak and shaky today, so it gets better. Hang in there. -
New here - so an introduction. I will be 42 this Friday. My wife and I have been married 24 years and have three awesome kids. Our two oldest are both girls (22 and 9) and both are special needs. Our youngest is 5 and ALL BOY! I've always been heavy. I know I have an addiction to food. I don't drink, never have done any sort of drugs, don't smoke - I cook and I eat. That's always been how I "medicate" myself. Eat til you regret it. Three years ago August 6th, I was in a rollover car accident that I should never have survived. I literally walked away with a severe concussion and damage to an already troubling issue with my back. I was laid up for about a month and the weight really started to pile on. I didn't realize how living life was slipping away from me. The eye opener came when we took the kids on our annual Disney World vacation. We do the Disney Cruise and then about 5 days or so in the parks. This was the first time our son was really going to be able to go on anything and everything he wanted, and it was that awesomeness of seeing the "magic" through his eyes for the first time. Problem was I had hit 450 + pounds and just couldn't do it. I had to rent a scooter to even go to the parks. Even riding that wore me out. I was so upset with myself that guess what - I ate myself sick. When we got to the ports on the cruise I stayed on ship. No way I could walk that far. I stayed back and ordered room service. About a week after the trip,my son and I were snuggling in the chair, and he asked me "Daddy, are you still going to be on the earth when I'm a daddy?" It broke my heart. I started to look into my options and then with both eyes closed, praying for guidance, I jumped into the deep end. Started my pre-op diet at the end of May and had surgery June 12. Lost 25 pounds on pre-op and have lost 18 since surgery. I'm very excited about this journey to get healthy and to make sure on next year's trip to see Mickey - nothing's getting in Daddy's way!
