4 days Post Op and Having a Moment
txsonicguy replied to fashionstylist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a lady, but I'll pipe in that I agree it sucks. However, it's only a couple of weeks in the grand scheme of things. I had a really hard time for those days but I had to remind myself that it took me 25 years to get the way. You can do anything for a short period of time. Good luck and be strong. -
Thursday is my first appointment for after care and fill. No one has explained to me whats going to happen at that appointment. How much fill is he going to put in, and how's it gong to get in there? Do I need to do anything before the appointment? I'm actually pretty nervous.

First Fill Question?
txsonicguy replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mis - thanks for that website. It's AWESOME. I learned so much. Don't worry about me asking lots of questions. I hope I don't get others sick of me. Others that go to the same True Results I go to speak highly off it, so I'm hoping my visit Thursday is great. I'm also looking forward to my first group tomorrow night. -

First Fill Question?
txsonicguy replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had like NO information before the surgery. Had consultation Friday afternoon. Went straight into health clearance. Started pre op diet Saturday morning. 14 days later eat the surgeon 30 seconds before I went into OR. That was it. I didn't even know my band wouldn't be full after surgery. I assumed I came out, band full, ready to rock and roll. My little daughter has a feeding tube into her stomach and they use a medical syringe to treat and service it. I guess I just didn't put 2 and 2 together. I don't like needles, so this really freaked me out. -

I Must be the only one in Collin County. McKinney /Friso here. Really enjoying everyone on here. I told me wife (of 25 years) "see I lose 35 pounds and I already have 30 new "girlfriends". Lol She didn't think it was funny either. -

I finally set in to Premier Protein chocolate shakes. Same calories a the Atkins I was drinking with half the fat and DOUBLE the protein - 30 g. They are actually pretty good. Also, I find the shakes so much more enjoyable if they are very, very, very cold. Them serve over crushed ice. When I couldn't handle any more broth, I went to Chik Fil A and ordered a soup and asked them to scoop me as much liquid as they could. It was SOOO much better than canned broth and I just didn't eat the noodles or carrots. It was awesome. Also - sugar free Jello and Popsicles were my best friends!!!! Good luck. You can do it. Work on a hobby or start a new one to distract the time. -

I was banded a month ago. One of the things I didn't realize and wasn't prepared for mentally is that the band basically has little to no fill right after surgery. This panicked me. Bu for the first 5-6 days you don't really want anything as you heal. From there it's strictly will power until the fills begin. My first is Thursday! Also try to vary your post op foods as much as possible. Change flavors of Jello, broth, etc. if not by day 8 or 9 you'll contemplate how your own foot would taste! Good luck. You've made the right decision.

I literally counted the pieces I ate so I could log them later. -
Let's lighten the mood.

I like the way you think. My 5 year old son and I pretend I was in a sword fight with a band of pirates who tried to steal his sisters -
I had this really bad about the point you are. I also had absolutely ZERO energy - I'm talking couldn't stay awake while driving. My nurse told me it was my body "shocked" from the caloric reduction. She recommended I switch from the Atkins shakes I was using with 15g of Protein, to something higher. Several on this board recommended Premier Protein (which I got at Costco). That bumped the protein up to 30g and still taste pretty good.

How much weight should i be loosing, post op?
txsonicguy replied to troy_r's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started pre op at 475. Lost 25 down to 450 with two week pre op diet. Lost 28 pounds first week on liquids. I called nurse because that concerned me. She said not to worry because I would gain up to 20% of that back when I started mushy and solid (and to not get discouraged). When I switched over I gained every single day for a total of about 12 pounds! I have no idea how I gained weight eating 800-1000 calories a day while weighing 431 pounds! I bumped my calories yesterday to about 1200 (mostly by eating half of a Mimi's muffin that I grossly underestimated the calories on) and I had my first lost since switching to solids. Down 2.5 today. Hopefully my body is recovered and adjusted and ready to "let go" again. -

I have to admit that I'm having an easier time passing by the Dunkin Donuts drive thru than I thought would.

Excuse my newbie ignorance, but why is that a controversial subject? -
That's what was frustrating - I usually do that. One trap with the new requirement for calories on the menus now is that they can put ranges now. Muffins on the menu listed between 360-875. I figured carrot raisin would be on the "healthier" end of the spectrum. Boy was I wrong. It's like the time I realized the nonfat frozen yogurt in Costco's food court has 400 calories. No more assuming for me!
