I was banded 6/20 and 12 days later as the adhesive wore away I noticed my port incision was infected. I was put on an antibiotic. I completed the antibiotic Keflex (10days) called my emergency after hours nurse told her that there was still pus and swelling. She prescribed me another 10 days and told me to call the office as soon as it opens Monday. Anyone banded had problems with their surgery stitches getting infected? Besides an antibiotic did you take anything to encourage healing?

I was still having side pains 15 days post op. Everyones healing rate is different. If you feel like it is something you need to address make sure you call your doctor. I called my my office and they told me mine was a pulled muscle.

Week 3 and still in pain here. Granted I have had other complications since surgery. Trust me you ARE NOT alone! I was in HELL day 5. Each week has progressively gotten better. I am still waiting for the day when "it feels like I never got surgery". What pain are you talking about in specific?

Daily Calories... I dont understand
SolracSpree posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Something that has been on my mind - calorie intake after getting the band. What is your average daily calories. My doc put me on a 1,000 calorie diet. I am struggling to get there on the pureed diet but im doing ok. Isnt there something to be said about putting your body in "starvation mode"? My mind cant wrap around 1000 cal being a healthy amount to put into your body. Doesnt your body need more nourishment? Before surgery I went through the iDXA scan and metabolism check. When they checked it - in order for me to maintain my weight I could eat 2,100 cal, to lose weight 1,700 with no exercise. So now that I am only eating 800 - 1000 calories of food why isnt my body losing weight? -

Good evening everyone! So my question is I am approx 3 weeks post op and I can breath normal just fine no pain. But lately I have been double inhaling. Like when you yawn. When this happens I get a tug of pain on my left side around the bottom of my ribcage, has anyone else experienced this? I can use my breathing machine (plastic machine given after post op) just fine with no pain but these double breaths are causing a problem. Giving the PA a call tomorrow just want to see if anyone felt these before

Take your time dont force it. Just remember to take sips as often as you can. I was told to drink 2oz every hour and no more than that for the first 24hrs

So. Right now my stitches are being a pain in the rear. I found out that my stitches are infected... All of them. ANNDDDDD I am having an allergic reaction to something in or on my stitches. They are looking pretty gruesome. My boyfriend says it looks like a lost a knife fight. So with that being said I am thinking of some awesome stories about my scars from surgery. I welcome any awesome stories about the scars from surgery. Because lets face it. Oh thats was from my lapband surgery. BORING INSTEAD I want to be like. So I was helping a family of baby goslings and out of nowhere a ninja pops out and ninja stars me in the stomach, I run to protect the baby geese who in turn attack the ninja thus saving my life. Odd yes. Childish EXTREMELY but what can I say I am a child at heart. I guess thats why I am an elementary teacher <3

Well first they started hurting more, like alot. And they ITCH SO BAD. Then a HUGE red rash formed around every incision site. I went to the doc and there was yellow pus and drainage. They put me on an antibiotic for 10 days

Miralax since day 1. But if you are taking this make sure you drink even more water

It took me 9 days before my swelling went down. Everything about my surgery has been abnormal it seems. I just found out my stitches are infected and I am allergic to the stitches they used in surgery. My whole stomach is just swollen 0_0

It sucks, it really does. I was in the same boat as you. Extreme hunger pain, along with surgery pain, gas pain, ect. It does not make you pathetic it makes you human. This stage is not easy. I had a MUCH easier time with the preop liquid diet. All I can recommend is a variety of blended soups. Are those allowed on your preop diet? I made a homemade potato soup, tried butternut squash soup, mushroom soup, lots of different soups in those 2 weeks. Also try and get a hobby watching TV was even hard because all the food commercials. I was depressed the first week and a half. All I can say is 2 weeks ago I was EXACTLY where you were and it does get better. I felt like my body was rejecting my band and I just knew I made the worst mistake of my life. I was mourning the loss of food too. My friends and family have all be eating for different parties and get togethers (all heavily centered around food) and I felt very alienated and alone. I remember crying to my boyfriend " Its ok , I dont care about being fat" So if you are weak and pathetic then so am I. Keep your chin up it does get better I wish you luck and a speedy recovery.

YAY!! Im in Charlotte NC. You are the closet bandster (or soon to be bandster) I've met on here. NC represent I am 23 and just got the band approx 3 weeks ago. I have already experienced the good bad and ugly. But I am keeping my head held high! If you need a bandster buddy I would be happy to oblige. I'll be in Morganton in a few weeks camping, just a hop skip and jump from you. -
OK. Sooo on Wednesday I got cleared to eat my pureed food. MY DOCTOR includes the following as OK to eat. Starch Group · Hot cereals – oatmeal, cream of wheat, and grits Fruits · Canned fruits in their own juice or extra light syrup · Pureed banana · Unsweetened applesauce Vegetables · Cook the vegetables well and then blenderize Protein Sources · Well cooked meat, chicken, turkey – blenderize with broth to get smooth consistency · Greek yogurt- non fat plain (flavor yourself) · Beans (kidney, pinto, black, etc.) – cook well and blenderize · Low-fat refried beans (no need to blenderize) · Low-fat cottage cheese – blenderize · sugar-free puddings · Low-fat cream Soups – blenderize to a smooth liquid consistency (NO chunks) OK, now here is my soft food list not to start until 2 more weeks. Starches · Mashed potatoes o Add unflavored Protein powder to “beef” up · pudding · Baked or sweet potatoes · Oatmeal (Weight Control Variety has most protein) Protein Sources · Finely Ground Tuna (possibly as tuna salad with low-fat mayo or a red-wine vinaigrette) · Chicken or Egg Salad (with low-fat mayo) · Shrimp (start with salad shrimp – the smaller, the more tolerable) and Scallops · Whitefish, Haddock, Cod, and Mahi Mahi (make sure to keep moist by not overcooking) · Fat-Free Refried Beans (mashed really well) · Other Bean Varieties (mashed really well) · Greek Yogurt (non fat plain) · Cottage Cheese – sprinkle with Splenda and cinnamon for a new taste! · Ricotta Cheese – layer with meat spaghetti sauce for a “pastaless” lasagna! · Hard Boiled eggs · Shredded Cheese – spread over beans for a new zest! Fruits and Vegetables · Vegetables that are well-cooked, but not pureed (try to avoid stringy veggies) · Fruits packed in their own juice or extra light syrup (Del Monte Carb Clever is lowest in sugar) · Low-Fat Salsa – use to flavor beans and other meat now my question for the experienced bandster is this. If I can eat things like refried beans on my pureed diet why not mashed potatoes, some consistency if not thicker! Well at any rate I used my logic ( which is not good logic apparently ) before looking at the soft food list and ate mashed potatoes as well as mac and cheese (the really aldente kind) yesterday and today with ZERO problems. What do you guys think? No more or what? Do you think I did damage in those 2 days? I NEED ANSWERSSSSSSSSSS thanks!

Oh no! Food Stage Confusion!
SolracSpree replied to SolracSpree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mashed Potatoes are on the list (soft food list). Potato Soup was also on my liquid diet list. They are on the next stage, so that doesn't make sense :/ ( in regards to the doc trying to get me away from starches ) -
Oh no! Food Stage Confusion!
SolracSpree replied to SolracSpree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once I get to solid food in a few weeks I dont have any restriction of what I can and can not eat. EXCEPT SODA and other carbonated drinks. They told me never ever ever ever have soda again. Now what my band lets me eat will probably be another story I hard things like rice, pasta, bread all get stuck! But I am a meat lover thats what I am REALLY looking forward to!
