Congrats! I was banded back in September and I was crazy nervous right until I fell asleep on the table. But, I have no regrets! It's easier said than done, but don't stress over the recovery pain. Mine wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined it would be. My advice is this: 1. Listen to your doctor. Do what they tell you to do. Eat what they tell you to eat. Follow those guidelines. When you have questions about pains or food, ask your doctor. 2. Get up and move. It helps with the post-surgery gas pains. 3. Come here for support. We are generally friendly 4. Don't compare yourself to others. You are unique and special...why would you try to be like someone else? You are going to do amazing things!

Nobody recognizes me. Starting to get old...
SillyAuntDi replied to gowalking's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to admit I'm a little tired of the "I didn't recognize you" stuff. It happened just today with a co-worker that I've known for 7 years. She sees me at least once a week. She said today "I had to do a double-take. I don't know you anymore." I know it's a compliment. But, dang! I am more patient with people who don't see me on a regular basis. But, those that see me often...well...I have started laughing and saying they need to get their eyes checked. I had one co-worker tell me this week "I guess your weight-loss is becoming old news for me now. I just notice it, but it's not a shock anymore. You do look fantastic, but I don't feel like I have to gush about it anymore." I almost hugged her in the hallway. And, about telling how much I've lost???? I've gotten to the point I just say "A lot." It's an uncomfortable answer for me. Especially when they follow it with "how much more are you going to lose" and proceed to do the math in their heads. So, no more numbers for me. I just say "Yes, I've lost a lot and I have some more to go." Sometimes it makes them angry, other times they just give me encouragement and move along. But, honestly, for the ones it angers...well, my weightloss isn't any of their business anyway. -
I had a great birthday. Here is a pic of me with one of my favorite gifts I love Grumpy Cat! I hope that you had a happy birthday, Sillyauntdi!

A birthday training session yesterday that involved many squats and lots of TRX exercises...I had to keep reminding my trainer not to kill me on my birthday Today, I took a power hour of boxing. Glutton for punishment...my trainer was teaching the class. Now I will hobble to the shower to freshen up! Have a great afternoon!

I'm rubbing my port site right now...I moved furniture this weekend and vaguely remember balancing a bookshelf in just the right spot on my belly. LOL So, I burp, my port hurts. I roll over in bed, my port hurts. It's going to be interesting doing crunches this afternoon with my trainer Hey...sounds like a good excuse to skip them this week <wink wink>

Success stories please!
SillyAuntDi replied to Shelly2221's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I consider myself a successful work in progress I am 8 months post-op and feeling AWESOME! Don't judge my success by the numbers in my ticker...I don't. Judge it by the improvement in my health (no more blood pressure meds), the improvements in my mobility (no more huffing and puffing walking from the car to the office), the increase in my exercise (boxing classes are the BEST) and the improvement of my overall life (I'm no longer hiding in corners or the back of the room wishing I was invisible). food is no longer the focus of my daily life. I eat when I'm hungry. I don't when I'm not...simple. I move when I can, and I get out and enjoy my life. I ride rollercoasters, I take group exercise classes, I walk on the beach, I ride a bicycle on the trails near my house, I look people in the eye, I smile, I laugh...and I make mischief at every possible opportunity -
Teaching an ole' dog new tricks..........
SillyAuntDi replied to BRANDNEWME813's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the family! Our stories are so similar...especially about walking through life in a haze. I feel like I was sleepwalking through my life prior to the band. I would wake up for a moment, realize what I was doing to myself but avoid the situation by going back to sleep. I finally woke up about this time last year, had surgery in September and have totally changed my life. My advice to you is this: Listen first and foremost to your doctor. Ask lots of questions before and after surgery. Follow his plan. We are here for encouragement and a swift kick in the pants when needed You are going to do amazing things, friend! -

Not yet. I have been having private training sessions and we've been focusing on other exercises. However, my birthday is next week and I have a freebie session planned (a gift from my trainer). I'm going to ask that it be a TRX session. I know...tough gift to myself...but it's worth it Great job have u been back to trx ?

I am allergic to whey. I use the GNC Egg protein powders. I like them better than the whey based ones I tried (to see if I really was still allergic to whey).

Boxing class today. I felt adventurous and attempted a few things during the warm up and the core sections that previously I was afraid to do (bad knees and all). And I made it through the whole class with no breaks. Good day!

I survived a personal training hour yesterday. Evil push ups. Evil planks. Evil squats. But, I did it and I'm going back for more next Wednesday He is transforming me and I'm starting to really see a difference. I walked all over Busch Gardens this weekend without huffing and puffing, climbed in and out of roller coasters with ease and my knees were not screaming in pain.

I am heading home from two fantabulous days at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I walked for two days without getting short of breath. I rode whatever ride I wanted without having to worry about whether I would fit. And I made smart food choices. I feel more and more like me again -
How do you feel about eating out after weight loss surgery?
SillyAuntDi replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sitting in a restaurant as I type this. I read the menu. I ask questions of the wait staff. And tonight I settled on grilled chicken skewers I am on vacation, getting ready to ride many roller coasters, so food is not going to get in my way. -

Welcome to the family! We are a great bunch of friends here. I'm glad you are home and resting. I think for me, I was off the pain meds by the fourth day. I was tired and not quite myself for about a week. Then I started feeling better. I drove by myself one week post op. Get plenty of rest, drink your fluids, and take it easy! Keep in touch.... -
