I'll take you up on it...but I may not post daily. Life keeps me away from the computer lately

Ok...so this morning I started my daily planks. Held the first one for 30 secs (on toes and forearms) and the second for 20 secs before my back popped and I decided that was enough. More tomorrow

One-derful Wednesday!
SillyAuntDi replied to SillyAuntDi's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@2muchfun I have a hard time grasping my total weight loss. It's been an amazing time -
I've got to get serious about this. I've had to back off of crunches and leg lifts because of my back. I can plank. I've just been making excuses for not doing it daily...that stops this weekend.

One-derful Wednesday!

Thank you Bandista! I kept the faith because I had seen others hover there. I knew it would be my turn eventually. I refused to "diet" to get there. I've just been waiting patiently for my body to accept the fact that it wanted to weigh less than 200lbs...lol -
I went to see my nutritionist today for a regular check-in. It's been a full year since I started seeing her. We just chatted about my progress and how great things are. Then she said she wanted to ask me a favor. Once a year she asks one of the patients to tell their story at the monthly support group meeting. So, I will be speaking at the August meeting. I'm kinda thrilled and kinda freaked out all at the same time. I think that will be when I debut the old fat jeans...and how I now fit into one leg. Happy Friday!

Boxing and more boxing! And my gym has asked to use my story in promotional material Since I started boxing in December I've lost 80lbs. They are blown away. Then I remind them that I started the weight loss before the gym and have lost over 150lbs since September. They pick their jaws up off the floor...and yes...they know about my band. But, they recognize that I do the hard work So supportive! Here are the pics they are going to use: Beginning at the gym in January: Today: Happy Tuesday!

Great pictures!!! An AMAZING transformation -
It's funny, Bandista...I describe that egg Protein almost the same way...some guy's name on it. But, I found it to be incredibly salty. I took it back to Vitamin Shoppe

I keep whole bananas in my freezer. I put half in my Protein shake each morning. It's not too high bad calorie-wise. But...as to WHEN you should try something like this post-op....that is up to your doctor. I wasn't allowed to add fruit to my protein shake for nearly three months post op. And, I wasn't allowed ice cream during that time either. Talk to your doc about it. Follow their advice

I'm glad you sent me a PM Anytime I can help, I'll be glad to. I've had my whey allergy for many years now. I've learned how to work around it. I know what foods set me off and what foods I can tolerate, but it's certainly a learning process. As I mentioned, I use an Egg Protein powder from GNC. I tried a pea Protein Powder...but it tasted like the dirt the peas grew in. Yuck. I'm open to new options as well, and keep looking around. I'll share with you if I find any others

No feeling in right outer knee area
SillyAuntDi replied to BandedMi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been dealing with loss of sensation in my lower left leg and left foot. I had apparently ignored all the signs of a pinched nerve because the pain, tingling and other symptoms were not in my back. HOWEVER....I am in PT now because of it. Go to the doctor and get checked out. For me...a course of prednisone and some modifications on my routine have helped. Most of the symptoms are under control, but the numbness will be with me for a long time until the nerve heals. Don't wait...go get checked. -
I have learned how to gauge a poster. If they sound like they want justification for breaking the rules and a "it will be OK" attitude, I just move along. My doc and I have talked at length about the mental part of the process and how determined I was from the beginning to make this a success. I've taken nothing forgranted. I've done nothing the easy way. I've worked hard at it. I get a little miffed by those that think "Oh, I have had WLS so now all the weight is just going to fall off." I ignore those people on here. Because they are the reason people like my personal trainer have a bad view on WLS. My trainer was heard making a comment that really ticked me off about how losing weight with WLS was less meaningful than if it was done without...what the heck???? When he clarified, it was because he only knows of people who have the attitude of "WLS will do all the work and I can still eat whatever I like and never exercise." So, I just don't engage those posters. I just can't fathom putting your body through such a process only to continue to do the bad things you were doing before. <rant over>

So, my boxing gym has added 30 minute classes (the regular classes are 60 minutes). I took one yesterday and another today. I think I sweat more during the shorter classes because the intensity is much greater. And, I can tell the cardio and strengthening is paying off. I took a walk around a local lake this weekend. It was on unpaved trails, up and down hills, over tree roots and through little streams. I had minimal pain in the bum knee and never got so winded that I had to stop. LOVED it!!

I can gladly offer encouragement and support. I'm not quite a year out from my surgery, but I have learned so much here. I would have been lost without this group. I am no expert and I have not had the "normal experience" according to my surgeon, but I know what has worked for me, my band, and my body. Feel free to private message me anytime! Diane

New picture! Boxing classes are paying off And you know it's paying off when your own mother does a double-take the first time she sees you after 2 months. She admitted that she didn't recognize me at first glance! Happy Tuesday!

SWIMSUIT SEASON!
SillyAuntDi replied to xmarycontraryx's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I bought some board shorts from JC Penney for the summer. I love them. I have the same issues with my thighs as well, and these shorts cover all that. I don't think I look too "mom"...and I bought a cute top that shows off the work I've done since last summer Good luck! -

Restaurant, eating thoughts?

My best sister-friend and I just went out to Outback last night. I got chicken and commented on the fact that it would end up being 3 meals for me I stole some of her salad and a few bites of her dessert. I also stole my first bite of steak since my surgery in September. I've been a little scared of it. It was DEEEEVINE!!!! I will be ordering it in the future -

After spending a day in "comfy" pants that were 3 sizes too big, I went to Old Navy yesterday. I bought a pair of comfy leggings in the right size. But, out of curiosity, I tried on a pair of khakis. Imagine my look of shock and awe when I slid on, buttoned, and easily fit into a size 14. Holy Crap! This time last year I was wearing a size 30! I came home, washed them, and will be wearing those trophy pants to work today! -
So, I mentioned that my boxing gym was going to spotlight me on FB. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/TITLEBoxingClubCary I love them. They are awesome. Happy Monday!

I am so happy for you! Good luck on this next step. We will be right here! Keep us posted

When did you start really exercising after surgery, and what is your "go-to" workout?
SillyAuntDi replied to Junebug36's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was released for light exercise about two weeks post-op. My surgery was in September, by December I was a member of the boxing gym. I was a little slow getting to the hardcore workouts because of a few factors, but not complications from the surgery. Listen to your body and your doc! Good luck -
LOL...he took me to the Lego Movie. So, I matched his geek with my Finding Bigfoot addiction. I think I may have won the geek award for the night. I'm ok with that! It was fun
