9 days post-op drinking question
RAAinNH replied to Sleeveland's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm a week and a half out and I can finish an 8oz shake in about 20 minutes. I can feel my stomach complain if I drink to quickly. Just take your time and sip slowly, there's no rush. -
Congrats!

3 days post op and miserable
RAAinNH replied to jjh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was discharged with only one night stay in the hospital. I slept for three straight days when I got home. I got up long enough to use the bathroom and walk around. I laid in bed and sipped water and Isopure. Each day I felt a little better. I'm a week and a half out and I'm feeling great! Hang in there! -

2 different surgeons, 2 different options?
RAAinNH replied to socalfosh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went into my surgery with the understanding that if my stomach was not too damaged from the removal of the band, my Surgeon would proceed with the Sleeve. I am fortunate to say that the revision took place during one Surgery. -

I have successfully completed my pre-op diet. I have been dieting seriously since May and did not expect to lose much weight over the last two weeks. I'm happy to say that I lost 9 pound following my pre-op diet. The Bariatric Center I attend has the following pre-op diet... 800-1000 calories per day 60 - 100 grams of Protein minimum 80 - 100 grams of carbohydrate (yes, we certainly can lose weight eating carbs!) 48 - 64 ounces of calorie free, caffeine free fluids per day. This diet was easy for me to follow as I had already reduced my calories. I was amazed that I was never hungry. I ate mostly solid foods and occasional protein shakes. A couple of nights when I came home from work I decided to just have a shake for dinner. I wasn't hungry plus I was too lazy to cook! Tomorrow is my big day! I am having my lapband removed and if my stomach is not too damaged, I will be sleeved.

Great post, thanks for sharing!

When I leave the hospital after surgery, I will be on full liquids including protein shakes and strained creamy soups for three weeks. After three weeks it's on to pureed foods for two weeks.

You're doing great! Keep up the good work! -
My surgery is on Wednesday. I have started using Redken products for thinning hair. Bosley also has a system for thinning hair that can be purchased on Amazon. After surgery, I'm planning on using minoxidil, 5% at night in an effort help curtail the thinning.

I gave up regular coffee a couple of months ago. My husband & I had always bought a pound of ground Dunkin Donuts coffee to enjoy at home. Now I buy the decaf Dunkin's coffee and have grown to like that as well as regular coffee. Every once in a while I treat my self to a non-fat decaf latte either at Dunkin's or Starbucks. It's a guiltless pleasure!

I just ordered a Medical ID Key Chain from Lauren's Hope. I think its a good idea to carry one and Lauren's Hope has many unique bracelet and necklace styles. I bought a purple dog tag style ID. The company suggests that you put your name, Gastric Sleeve and the date of surgery, No Blind NG tube, Doctor's phone number and emergency contact.

Hi Alex... That's why I decided to buy a medical ID key chain. You could also hang an ID necklace on your car's rearview mirror.

New here...Surgery in 6 days!
RAAinNH replied to Im14fun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I'm also having my surgery on June 26th.... -
Last February, I received pre-approval from my insurance company to have revision surgery from the Lapband to the Sleeve. Yesterday, after completing the required Bariatric Program and receiving a surgery date of June 25th I was informed that my insurance company will only pay for the Lapband removal but not the Sleeve. Their reason is that the lapband is not eroded. Still, they are willing to cover the removal but not the revision to the Sleeve... it doesn't make sense. Why cover one but not the other? Or if they feel the Lapband has not failed, why not refuse the removal? My Surgeon has set up an appeal with my insurance company. I am trying to be optimistic but it feels like a long shot. I've had my Lapband for three and a half years. I managed to lose 30 lbs only to gain it all back. I felt foolish and stopped going to the first Bariatric Center where the Lap band was done. Long story short...I did not feel supported there, I felt judged, ashamed & embarrassed. In February, enrolled in another Bariatric Center and have faithfully followed their program. I have taken off 20 lbs but it is hard to maintain. Today is the day I was to start my pre-op diet. I will not have the band removal only surgery.... if I do, I fear that I will never get approval for the Sleeve. I have little restriction and a whole lot of reflux. It's not an option for me to get another fill as it will make the reflux even worse. I feel that I was lied to by the manufactures of the Lapband. I was never informed that the band scars the stomach and sometimes attaches to other organs. They made it sound like it was easy to remove when in reality, it has to be cut out. They never mentioned the high instance of slippage and erosion. Constant heartburn and acid reflux is what I have been dealing with for the last two years. Medications help some but I have frequent break through heartburn that often keeps me up at night. I used to think it was hunger and would eat to get rid of the sourness and burning feeling in my throat and sometimes chest. I was later informed by my doctor that it was actually acid reflux not hunger. Now that the shock of the denial has worn off and I stopped crying and feeling sorry for myself. I am going to fight this... fight the insurance company. I will continue with my weight loss efforts, eating right and exercising. I am hoping that the Bariatric Center will keep me as a patient, monitor my progress and help with appeals to the insurance company. I will keep applying for the revision until it happens.
