I purchased these egg whites as a referral from a friend who swears by them. I've not really tried them yet so I'll let you know. However for some dumb reason I thought they'd have a better texture. Don't know why I thought that but had it in my head. Lol.

It sounds like we may have the same people working on our case... I called my insurance company and they said if I don't hear from them then call the surgeons office. Pray tell how the surgeons office will know something when the insurance company doesn't. It's hard trying to sit tight n wait on them especially after being told I was approved then told they had it wrong. Just gotta try and think positive thoughts but the negative ones are lurking around the corner. Lol

I'm still waiting, my tentative date is January 16th. I called the insurance on the 19th and was told I was approved. The surgeon hadn't received the authorization yet so I called again yesterday and was told she made an error and that my request for authorization was submitted for review on the 19th. I had a really bummed out day yesterday. So now I have to wait a while longer to find out. I was so excited that I was approved then she burst my bubble... I suppose it could be worse and be told I was denied... Keeping positive thoughts.

Jenjen, have you heard anything yet today?

Hi, I'm 55, I'm pro-op and waiting on insurance approval. I have a tentative date of January 16th. I should hear something today. Any other 50'ers having surgery in January?

I moved to Kansas from Hawaii to take care of my mom and dad who are in poor health. It took some getting use to but I'm 75 miles north of Tulsa and a little over 2 hours south of Kansas City...I do have days where I want to run and keep on running, lol I hope we both hear something positive today. Here's keeping my fingers crossed for both of us.

I guess we can wait in limbo together... Lol

Thank you DL and ajustice, the worst thing can happen is I have to redo something. I'm feeling positive that it's all going to work out fine. My eye is definitely on the prize. I'm really looking forward to a year from now. Heck even a couple months from now. It's all still exciting, whatever the outcome it'll all be fine.

I just checked again and they haven't approved or denied so I'm going to continue the positive thoughts. They did however say they would decide today or tomorrow...

Ins Approved But Hasn't Sent Auth To Surgeon
tkauhi replied to Tammy wright's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My journey began on January 1st. I'm my PCP's first WLS person... I have made all the appointments except for the cardiologist and got the reports and delivered them to my PCP along with a copy to the surgeon my self. It's been a very frustrating year to say the least. My PCP's assistant has been nothing but a person to put things on the back burner. I asked her for a copy if my dietitians report and a couple weeks later I go in and she tells me it can't be used to submit to the insurance. Then tells me the hospital doesn't have the record... Really??? I had gone to the medical record department the day before and obtained the record myself. And the insurance apparently accepted it if they approved me. She told me she had faxed my monthly notes twice but the surgeon never received them. I got her to begrudgingly make me copies and I FedEx them overnight. It's like she's tried to sabotage me every step of the way all the while with a smile on her face. If I didn't live in such a rural community and I had a better selection of doctors I'd have changed doctors but I've made it this far on my own and this last blip of getting the authorization sent to the surgeon is just, hopefully, the last thing... If this had been handled properly I would have had my surgery in July. Here I still wait because if incompetence. After I have my surgery I'm going to make waves for this little gallie. I don't need any more obstacles or I'd have already done it... Ok that's my rant for the day. Thanks for listening...:-) -
Hi All, I hope everyone is doing awesome today! I have a question about the psych eval, see, I'm diagnosed bi-polar however my family thinks its just depression. I don't know but everything is treated and controlled with meds. Is this something that will cause me to fail the eval??? I've qualified for everything else and I'm worried this might hold me back. Has anyone in here had my same problem??? I'm really nervous about this.

Tx everyone, I feel much better and relieved. I have only told my parents and boyfriend about the WLS, even then my parents seem against it and offer suggestions about things I've already tried and failed at. I just don't want everyone else's opinion about something they haven't put the time into to research this. My parents think its going to kill me or mame me for life. The only one supporting my decision is my boyfriend. I don't see the rest of my family often since we live so far apart so I should be over all the post op part of it before they find out. I've asked the folks not to tell anyone but I know someone will spill the beans sooner or later. I just don't want to hear what they will have to say and make me feel down on myself or have second thoughts. Has anyone experienced this kind of situation?

Pre-Registered for July 5 Surgery Date
tkauhi replied to fashionstylist's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! How exciting it is when I hear of yet another being approved. Gives me hope that I'll get approved. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!! -
I'd like to ask, how many times were you required (by your insurance co) to visit with the dietitian ? I finished my 6 month Dr supervised diet but he only had me meet with the dietitian once at the beginning of the 6 months to be placed in a diet. I understand the surgeon has one on their team but during the 6 months how many visits were required to get approved?

Thank you everyone for your input. My next step is to go to the seminar on July 13th at that point I fill out all the required paperwork required by the clinic then if they say I qualify they will schedule me at the clinic... I guess every place has a different routine.

Julesdarln Btw, good luck with your last 20 lbs. i only lost an average if 4-5 lbs a month. You have it going for you girl...you can do it...

Hi everyone, I'm Tammy from Kansas. I'm happy to have found this forum in my apps. There are a few abbreviation's you guys use and some I've figured out, but can I ask, what is Pbing?

Julesdsrln My doctor sent me to a dietitian the first month (January) but they didn't schedule any followups with her. I've finished the six months with my doctor but now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to see a dietitian for 6 months. He didn't give me any amount if weight to loose. Was it your PCP that gave you those requirement's or the bariatric doctor?

Thank you Stephanie, its nice to meet you and I know I will have plenty of questions. I've been doing research since last July but I've learned more in this forum than what I've learned through my research. It's great to be here.

Thank you for that information. I've just finished my 6 month doctor supervised diet program and only lost 14 pounds. I saw a dietician once in the beginning but had no follow up with her so I don't know if that's enough or not. I have medicaid insurance and as of January they began covering lap band surgery.. I'm 5'8 and 275 lbs. with high blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep apnea, joint pain and herniated discs in my back and neck. Oh and borderline diabetic. My doctor agreed to refer me to the tallgrass bariatric center in Topeka so he's making the referral this month. I'm scheduled for the seminar next month an that's as far as I've gone on this journey. I'm not sure what the requirements with medicaid are. I tried to talk to them but got nowhere so if anyone has had medicaid insurance your input would be helpful. I'm really excited and hope I'm getting all my bases covered. I look forward to this forum. Glad I found you guys. I'm gathering much needed information... Any idea what my next steps might be?☺

I tried to get approved for lap band in July of last year but Kansas medicaid did not cover it. I found that as if January 2013 they do now cover it. I spoke with the nurse at Tallgrass bariatric center in Topeka and they do accept medicaid but said I had do do 6 months supervised diet with my PCP I have finished my 6 months and saw a dietitian one time in the beginning. She put me on a diabetic diet but the only follow up I've had is with my PCP... I see him again next week to get my referral for the surgery. So far I've lost only 4lbs a month. I'm 5'9 270lbs, HBP, arthritis, high collateral, Pre diabetic and have severe joint pain and herniated disc in my back and neck with constant pain. I've been told if I could loose this weight I would not have all these issues. I'm just wondering what medicaid requires to do the surgery. I'm going to a seminar next month to learn more about it. I have researched and researched since last July finding good and bad about any wls but after lurking on this site I am positive I want to go through with it if I qualify. Any information would be appreciated... Thanks, Tammy
