    Home from surgery

Wow, you've been through a lot. I'm glad everything has been fixed correctly so you can be successful.
  2. I feel your pain. I still have 4 more appointments to go before they will schedule mine but they are all in the next eight days so I don't have too long to wait but I agree it's torture! I have major insomnia and I'm sure it's because I can't stop thinking about this. My surgeon is hoping to have me scheduled in August but she said the hospital we are going to is really booked so I am soo anxious to get it scheduled. I'm off till September and don't want to have to take off time from work just when I'm supposed to be going back.
  3. This is great information, thank you so much. So many of the wigs and hair pieces are so thick and just don't look natural. Now I need to find some wig shops in my area and start looking. I don't mind spending a little for something I will probably wear daily, at least to work. How was your hair loss? I hear it usually lasts for a couple of months then stops but it is going to be the worst thing about this whole thing for me. I wish I had hair to spare but I don't.
  4. I'm not sure about pain and mood but "my fitness pal" is an awesome app for tracking food and weight and exercise, It seems to have almost any food you can think of already in its system. I definitely plan on using it after my surgery. I'ts also free!
  5. Where do you find the sublingual B12? I hate needles but like you said an easy fix. How often do you get the injections? How long do they stay in your system? does your primary doctor do it? I wonder if my insurance would pay. I know, so many questions but I'm curious about this. I like gummie vitamins, I wish they could make a complete gummie, I wonder why they can't. Thanks for the info.
  6. Thank you, what is ulta? A store?

    One Year On...

I am hoping to have surgery in August, have a few more appointments left to go to. Met with my surgeon today to discuss the sleeve, the first time we only talked about the band because I wasn't even considering the sleeve until I started researching it. She told me the biggest problem she sees with her patients is that they can't wrap their minds around the fact that they can only eat a half a cup of food, and that's only after several weeks of healing, like you said at first it's only a couple tablespoons. It's just so hard to get used to and they end up eating more than they should and gaining weight or getting sick or causing leaks in the beginning, although she told me she has never had a patient with a leak yet but she said it will happen one day. I think the hardest part for me will be the water part about stopping before and after and not drink during. We will see I plan on following all the rules to a t at least in the very beginning as I don't want to disrupt the healing process. I'm sure down the road there will be some struggles but I know I need to put in a lot of work to be successful. I often wonder though how a person can survive on such a small amount of food and get all the nutrients. I know we take vitamins but some people end up like you and can't stop losing.
  8. fage is greek, I don't think they make regular
  9. I like fage greek yogurt. It has 12 grams of protein. I like the ones with fruit on the side, called a split cup but they have 16 grams of sugar so I am going to ask the nutritionist when I see her next week about this. I hear people add truvia to the plain or torani SF syrups to add flavor without sugar.
  10. Thank you, I will look into the gummies
  11. I was told today that I need to have quit for 6 weeks before surgery and that they will test for it. And also not to smoke after because it hampers the healing process. This is actually a godsend I want this so bad and have wanted to quit for a long time. I don't smoke a ton so I'm hoping it's fairly easy. I like to smoke when I am stressed out so that will be the hardest. Today is day one and so far so good.

    Smoking

My surgeon told me I had to be off cigs for 6 weeks and they test you before surgery and will not do surgery if you are positive. I have been wanting to quit and don't smoke much anyway so this is a great incentive to get me to quit, I'm actually glad they require this.

    Hello

I am looking at August sometime also. Met with surgeon, did sleep study now I have to have psych eval and meet with nutritionist next week. Surgeon said it looks like August. I hope so because I'm off all summer.
  14. I just met with my surgeon today and forgot my list of questions, I think I'll call and ask just so I know. Thanks for the feedback!
  15. I just started a new post and asked this question, guess I should have looked a little longer. I'm just curious why some have drains and some don't.
  16. Well, found out today I do have sleep apnea. To most people this would be bad news but I needed it for insurance to pay. Psych appt. Thursday and Nut appt. July 3rd then we can submit to insurance. Surgeon said looks like August if all goes well. Surgeon wants me to quit smoking for 6 weeks, I already wanted to quit and I don't smoke much anyway but what a great incentive. She said they screen for thc before surgery too. I have wanted to quit and this is making me so I'm happy. I guess smoking is really bad when your healing and can cause complications.

    Got my acceptance today

congratulations! I am still in the process. Waiting on sleep study results because that will decide if I can have the surgery since my bmi is under 40 my insurance requires two comorbidities, I already have high bp. I am meeting with my surgeon again tomorrow because the first time we discussed the lap band and then I changed my mind to the sleeve. I know about not sleeping, ever since my sleep study I have been all screwed up because I didn't sleep a wink that night and then slept the whole next day. I hope my surgeon has the results tomorrow. I am so ready to do this! Let us know when your surgery date is.

    BCBS of IL

I have bcbs of illinois and was told, and also read in my policy that if I use a blue distinction center or center of excellence than my insurance will pay at 100%, You may want to look into this. My surgeon is willing to go to this hospital to save me some money.
  19. If your unsure you should call your doctor. From what I understand it is normal to feel weak after surgery however, from what I've read on this site most people are feeling pretty good by day six. Did your doctor say how long you will have the drain? As long as the color of the fluid is good and you don't have a fever things should be ok but I would call my doctor just for piece of mind.

    1 year since surgery

That's inspiring! Still waiting on approval, just in the beginning stages with appointments, sleep study but I hope to be as successful as you!

    Completely Addicted!

Wow since October, It's only been a few weeks for me and I feel like it's taking forever. Once you make up your mind you just want to get it done! I keep hearing about peer to peer reviews. Is this when your doctor meets with other doctors or what? When I did my sleep study last week I felt like I didn't sleep a wink and kept waking up but they said they got enough data. They didn't put a cPAP on me in the middle of the night so I don't know if this means I don't have sleep apnea or what. Did they put one on you during the night? Only a couple more weeks! How exciting, Who knows we could be getting the sleeve right around the same time. I will keep you updated. Thanks for sharing!

    Completely Addicted!

I am getting addicted too. There is so much good information. when is your surgery? I see on your profile that insurance is paying but you had an appeal? I have a lower bmi and am hoping my insurance will pay, i'm still in the process. Had my sleep study, blood work, appointment with the surgeon. I'm so afraid I'll be denied. What was the process like for you?
  23. I feel the same way about this forum. I too was dead set on the band. I met with my surgeon and we didn't even discuss the sleeve then I started researching it and was sure this was the way to go. Especially after reading posts on this site. I have another appointment Tuesday to discuss the sleeve since I changed my mind. I am waiting on blood work and sleep study results. Since I have a BMI that's less than 40 my insurance requires two comorbities. I do have high blood pressure so we will see. I am hoping to be in your shoes soon and waiting on approval. The waiting is sooo hard! I wish you luck, let us know what you find out!

    BCBS Comorbidity Requirements

Your lucky your insurance only requires one with a BMI under 40. I find myself hoping to have sleep apnea which is pretty sad but I really want this surgery. I meet with my surgeon again on Tuesday. This time to discuss the sleeve. The first time I wasn't even considering it, I thought I wanted the lap band but then when I looked into the sleeve I feel pretty confident this is the way to go. Being shorter will help your BMI. I hope my surgeon has the results of my sleep study on Tuesday also. That's when I will know for sure if this is going to happen. Was high cholesterol a comorbid? I have bcbs of illinois and it is on mine. your surgeon will ask you to get blood work done so that might be one. Osteoarthritis was also one. Ask your insurance if you can see the bariatric surgery policy, they should be able to tell you where to find it on the website then you can see for yourself all the comorbidities they require. It really sucks because eventually I will have ALL these comorbids if I can't get the surgery!

    BCBS Comorbidity Requirements

I am wondering the same thing. I have bcbs-IL and they require two comorbities with bmi less than 40 which mine is 36. I have high blood pressure but am wondering if anyone has ever been approved with just one. I did a sleep study last night to see if I have sleep apnea. Don't know the results yet. When you find a surgeon ask them about that, mine set it up for me.
