I have GHI as well and it was a 6 month supervised diet (it would have been 3 months if I was able to use a bariatric center for the monitoring which mine didnt have available) Hope you figured it all out...the insurance requirements are a bit much but we must follow them....ugh! My surgery date is set for 9/19...will be starting preop diet 9/4...if you ever want to chat message me!

Where do I start the process for weight loss surgery? help!
chasingadream replied to tamoune's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my primary doctor who referred me to a bariatric surgeon. I immediately called and had a consult with the surgeon who felt I was a good candidate for lap band surgery. Met with his assistant on the way out of the office and had a list of testing that had to be met before I could get a surgery date. You should definately check with your insurance company ASAP...seems as though many of them require a 6 month doctor supervised diet (mine did), along with all of the testing, before they will consider approving you for weight loss surgery. Hope that helps...and good luck! -

Bariatric Advantage....sells sample packets and sealed bottles of powder (just add Water, shake and drink)--i've been trying shakes since surgery date is 9/19---dont LOVE ANY of them but we have to do it.....soooo, with that being said--so far the bariatric advantage vanilla is ok and so is the orange cream...i also thought EAS (bought at BJ's, and local NY grocery stores chocolate fudge was okay as well as muscle milk light (chocolate) hope that helps some..... Any other suggestions from "experienced" bandsters is always welcome!

Severe Sleep Apnea
chasingadream replied to MrsFraga2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I ended up with a cpap machine after having to do the sleep study for my surgery (not banded yet 9/19). I started with the nasal pillows (so annoying) so I switched to full face (which covers the mouth and nose) and its better....i know NOT using it would be better but I do feel much better during the day! As for my husband....its not attractive but it is for my health so we make jokes about it!! And it wont be for forever! I would check with your surgeons office since they would get a report from the pulmonologist stating the status of your test. Would be sad if you get so far in the process and then they put off your surgery because you dont have the cpap that you obviously need. My doctor told me I MUST bring it to the hospital-- Im hoping it is for short term use once the weight comes off... Give it a second thought...your boyfriend loves you for the good and the bad i would hope...so this falls into the inconvenient...he'll get over it!!!! Good luck! -
Oh my....isnt that always the way....

WOOOO HOOOO...you look AMAZING.....next pic needs to have all of you though...lol.....such an inspiration!

Please respond if you know anything about lab band surgery
chasingadream replied to nursecheryl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI, Im yet to be banded (surgery date 9/19)..and understand your concerns. I would definately meet with other doctors and if and when you do I would be sure to ask them about what this doctor told you about lap band and ask their "take" on that. It would be very very interesting to see what their response would be to what they said about the other surgeries being done more.....and WHY???? Please let us know how it goes and please let us know what the other doctors say..... -
I'm so lucky to have a hubby who wants this as badly as I do and is so supportive!! Also, the 3 friends and nephew I've told are so happy for me and all of the possibilities.... Notice not many people know....not willing to chance any naysayers and I want the expectation of outcome to be my own...i love others opinions--but not on this subject. I wish more had support as a i do....maybe they can share this great post with those that are less supportive... Thanks CG....

Need some advice, please no negeativity!
chasingadream replied to betchaican's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I am schedule for lapband with plication surgery on 9/19 and I totally understand the whole 2nd thought and backing out....I almost did because of some very negative posts here....so, I made a list of ALL of my questions from what I read here as well as my own questions from researching it myself and I took my husband and MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY SURGEON. He answered all of my questions, crazy or not, and helped both myself and my husband understand EVERYTHING. You must, must, MUST trust your surgeon and in the end you MUST trust yourself. I also have 2 small children, as you can see from my profile pic, and I would NEVER EVER do anything to jeopardize their mommy not being here...but if I dont do something about my weight AND get healthy I really wont be here for them in the very near future anyway. Am I scared, YUP. Do I worry, YUP. Could there be complications, YUP Could everything go without a hitch, YUP Can I continue on the path I am, NOPE! I am lucky to have my husband 150% behind me and a surgeon with an excellent reputation and a complete aftercare program in place at his office. I am in good hands and I WANT this and am willing to WORK....so in my mind....I will be a SUCCESS.... hope that helps in some way.... -

My story--banded for 9.5 years.
chasingadream replied to MeganA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Let me begin by saying I am sorry for the years of pain that YOU have experienced and truly hope that your revision surgery is a POSTIVE experience for you.... I revisited my surgeon after the last thread that was posted similar to this and we had an in-depth and lengthy conversation with the multitude of questions I had from that thread and questions from my own research. I have one of THE best surgeons around and had each and every one of my questions answered. And as an educated and responsible person I DO UNDERSTAND there may or may not be complications with this WLS. But I also understand that my doctor has the best and most complete aftercare program in place for his patients and I will NOT be allowed to go years with problems and in pain, as apparently you have. Hopefully your new doctor will not allow problems to go as long with your sleeve as your previous doctor did with your band!! And please, I am NOT arguing or debating with you about your complications and YES, you are very much allowed to share YOUR EXPERIENCES but let me just quote you "I am writing this post in the hopes that I help others really understand what life with the band is like." When someone reads that sentence that tells people that you have all the answers as to life with the band...and while your experience obviously was horrible there are many people who've had success...and not just people with 1 or 2 or 3 years experience...people with well over 5 years. As someone who is yet to be banded reading posts like yours do scare and send people running...especially newcomers who are looking for information (good AND bad). And since this will be my ONLY post on this thread since I will not allow this negativity to continue from my end...perhaps you need to see someone to discuss the effects that all of this has had on you...both physically and obviously emotionally....you are an educated person as you once stated on the other thread....but in my very humble opinion, an educated person DOES NOT ALLOW THE COMPLICATIONS YOU HAD TO GO ON FOR 8 YEARS. Wishing you all the best and in 10 years time I hope to come back on here and we can BOTH be boasting about how great our experiences have been and how lucky we were to make the choices we did and be able to share great pictures of successful LONG TERM weight loss! Be well and good luck Megan! -
That sounded like a glorious weekend...all around!
