Just got final Approval, waiting for date. 4-6 weeks
chasingadream replied to Its-time's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck...I also used Dr. Geiss...all very nice and professional there. I also had plication. Good luck on getting your date! Keep us posted!!! Plication is when they fold your stomach in on itself and sew it....it looks like a banana....and is supposed to mimic the sleeve without actually removing your stomach. -
Good job.....way to go! Thanks for inspiring the lazy in me to do something! Sometimes it is just hard to get your head into it and even worse when you feel like crap! Does make you feel good after its done and you have this burst of energy. Guess I will log off and go do something....anything.....have a great day!

How long to take off work?
chasingadream replied to lawest89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also depends on what you do? Physical or not? I also planned on having surgery on a thursday and going back on monday. I then decided before having the surgery that it was just pushing myself too much. So I had my surgery on a thursday, stayed overnight in hospital-standard for my doctor- and went back to work the following thursday. I am glad I took the extra days just for myself to feel better and to truly wrap my head around what I had done and what I had to do in the initial days. I teach small groups of students, so my job is not physical in any way and I had no issues with the surgery and healed well. I didnt need to use any pain killers, just liquid tylenol was okay for me and I'm glad I had those extra days home to rest and recuperate. It is surgery and your mind and body needs time....hope that helps you some. Good luck and keep us posted! -
EEEWWW...but very good visual! I agree, I would like to be lean NOT lumpy....LOL

Starting over after loss of Son
chasingadream replied to StarsZie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am so sorry to hear of your tremendous losses...but you are acknowledging that now is the time to get yourself back on track and maybe that is the biggest hurdle right now. I agree with Carolina Girl....get your band checked and make sure it is all good and then you can make a plan from there. One day at a time....one day at a time.... Wishing you peace and much success. -
Can anyone give me an idea of a regular day of what you eat?
chasingadream replied to Christy Z's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't do any Protein shakes. I am eating solids for 3 meals and one snack a day. Breakfast can be Cereal (high protein) and milk, or hot cereal (high protein), or weight watchers smart ones breakfast sandwich, or egg beaters omelet. lunch is usually egg, chicken or tuna salad with crackers (wheat thins, melba toast, pita chips). Sometimes I'll have leftover protein from dinner the night before. Snack between lunch and dinner (usually 3) is laughing cow baby bell cheese or 100 calorie blue diamond almonds or cottage cheese. Dinner is 3-4 oz of protein (93% ground beef, chicken parts or cutlets, pork chops or tenderloin etc) with a veggie and a little carbs. We eat in way more than we eat out. If Im running and need a quick "meal" on the go I always have a Pure Protein Chewy chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter bar...20 grams of protein for one...low in sugar too. No eating occurs after dinner...not hungry and not really looking for anything. Thats what I'm eating these days and it is working for me and I am enjoying what I'm consuming and feeling good! Hope that helps. -
Struggling, but sustaining...
chasingadream replied to LenRen25's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im only 4 months post op with my band/plication and I've definately learned one thing for sure....THIS IS A JOURNEY AND NOT A QUICK ROAD TRIP. It will have its hills and valleys...successful ones and ones where we struggle. But if we continue down the road, and persevere, we will reach our final destination of weight loss and better health. -

When taking time off work...
chasingadream replied to marissacb09's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I definitely like the way you worded it! I will definitely try that! I also work with gossipy people, so that's what I was just trying to avoid! Im also trying to stress I'm not embarrassed, it's just my business with the people I share it with, and with people who really understand who are on here! Thank you for the good tips! Glad I could help...it is a tough call no matter which way you go! People are naturally curious and some are just plain nosy....which wouldn't be so bad if they weren't gossipy and negative too! Good luck! -
Congratulations...it is very exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time! Keep us posted!

When taking time off work...
chasingadream replied to marissacb09's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I told my boss (in a letter) I was having a "medical procedure done" and that I didn't want it shared with my colleagues.... As for colleagues, I just told them I was taking care of some health issues and that I was/would be fine... Now, almost 4 months later my boss still hasnt said anything to me about it ...and as for my colleagues, well some of them are complimenting me on my weight loss and walking away , others are asking what I'm "doing" because I look good ...and then I've had a few basically corner me and say "you've had lapband surgery, havent you" ....followed by your losing alot of weight and you were out of work for 5 days so I put 2 and 2 together. It's coming out slowly and I'm just trying to keep MY personal life personal except for those I CHOOSE to share it with. I work with a bunch of gossipy people. Some say what's the big deal and dont be embarassed by my decision. I'm not embarassed by my decision but I dont want people who won't support me talking about me or the decisions I have made. Unfortunately there is a multitude of scenarios that could take place. It's an interesting situation no matter how you handle it....good luck on it! And good luck on your upcoming surgery! Keep us posted! -

I stayed overnight and didn't get discharged until late in the afternoon and they gave them to me in the hospital but I did not have to have anything at home. Let us know when you find out the answer. Good luck to you! -
scared that I'm not doing this right.
chasingadream replied to Dubichick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's rate of loss is different. I know for myself I'm almost 4 mos post surgery and am down 67 pounds. I'm eating healthier than ever, getting my needed Protein in, following my doc/nutritionist suggestions for amounts at each meal and doing a little exercise (I need to get a more regular schedule but do the best I can right now). So that averages about alittle more than 4 lbs per week (I was thinking it would only be 1-2 also). I'm sure that will slow down at some point. But I know that I am eating healthy and doing what I'm supposed to. Hope that helps you in some way. Good luck on relocating with a new doctor...keep us posted! -
Love that I feel good enough about myself (FINALLY) to post a new pic (face included-lop)...after clothes shopping in my very own closet!

Are you happier now that you are thinner?
chasingadream replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm happy that I have this opportunity to use this little tool to improve my health and my self-confidence...so far so good! I'm happy that just tonight I tried on the "skinny" section of pants in my closet of many sizes only to find that they are too big...I'm trying to be happy that now I have to go and get some new clothes (being overweight my whole life I hate to shop)....I am happy to hope that I will learn to love to shop...lol I'm happy that people are complimenting me on how great I look and that I'm FINALLY able to accept their compliment and believe that it is the truth. I'm happy to look in the mirror and see a smaller me but my view of myself is still "off". I'm happy, lucky and blessed to have the most supportive husband ever. I'm happy that I can keep up now with my 2 little sweethearts. I'm happy to have more energy than ever before. I'm happy to have met some wonderful people here...some who I now call friend! And I'm happy to not be controlled by food anymore! -
I miss a diet sunkist now and again (think it might be more the orange flavor than the bubbles)...lol I havent had one since my pre-op and my doc says its a NO-NO....so a no go it is, and will continue to be, for me!

I'm on long island...thanks gowalking for contacting me....weekends are good too....would like to join in a meet and greet!

I had this done in September....doing great so far....didnt experience what i've read many say is bandster hell...ok with 3 meals and 1 snack (some days) between lunch and dinner. Haven't gotten a fill yet...we will see what happens in the coming months. Still fight with head hunger and making good choices for myself. It is just an extra tool that MUST be worked on my journey!

Feeling AMAZING! New Year New ME!
chasingadream replied to enjoythetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on the great success! I feel the same as you...follow your doctors orders! It's proof that it can and does work. Im 3 1/2 months out from surgery and feeling so incredibly amazing with 65 lbs off my 5'4" frame...can't wait to feel what 105 lbs lost feels like!!! Thanks for inspiring me when times are tough...its nice to hear a positive experience! Just trying to take it one day at a time! -
How Long Have You Been Banded And If No Longer Banded Why Not
chasingadream replied to Pablo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
3 1/2 months post op....band with plication...feeling great--so happy with my decision! Visited the doc for my monthly follow up today and lost 10 lbs this month... have lost a total of 65 lbs so far. I am amazed and feel so good about myself....first time I can say that in a VERY long time!! I haven't needed a fill as of yet and I'm guessing that is due to the plication. The thought of a fill kind of scares me to be honest....read so much on here about people being too tight. So I will happily stay without any fills right now and when/if the day comes I will embrace it and be smart about it...and reach out to so many great people here who have had a positive experience with fills. I'm enjoying eating all foods and I like that Im not feeling deprived. No more diet mentality here...just better choices and trying to eat smarter. Thanks to all the great and supportive people here who have helped me along the way...I appreciate and thank all of you! -
Monthly weigh-in and check-in with doc....all good...down 10 lbs this month. Total of 65 lbs gone...it is hard to believe that this is where I am...nice to feel good about ME!
