About Me
I'm a 58 yr. old woman living in Montana. Have been overweight most of my life. I was 8 when I first dieted (Pediatrician ordered). Always on the chubby or plumb side until I joined the Navy at 19. Slimmed down to 118 lbs. in basic training, but soon began putting weight back on a few pounds at a time. I went thru a series of diets to keep it off and barely managed to stay within regulation limits: physical aspects of my job helped some. I separated from the Navy instead of reenlisting. Within a few years I got married and then pregnant. Put on a lot of pregnancy weight and only lost a part of that. Gained more weight with our 2nd child. I then spent the next 29 years going on diets of all kinds. I never could lose more than 40 lbs. & then would gain it back plus some. I'm sure that sounds familiar to everyone. So I more or less gave up. Just before Christmas 2012, I visited my primary care provider (PCM) for a non-weight related problem. Upon exam, she was alarmed by my BMI which was 50. She's my new PCM and was seeing me for the first time. I don't have diabetes or heart problems yet, but I could have. I suffer with GERD and joint pain from my hips to my toes and I'm exhausted 24/7, so I'm not very active. My PCM talked to me about bariatric surgery. My insurance will cover it. Funny how I never considered doing that before. I think I thought I wasn't obese enough to qualify. LOL! I've chosen the Band and just waiting for the insurance to approve it and then set a surgical date. I want to succeed at losing the weight this time. I'm determined to work as hard as I can to make that happen. I'm at peace with my choice and excited too. This is it!
