  1. I had the band place 2 ½ years ago, I had pretty good success the first year. I started to fly for my part time job and started having issues. My band slipped last April & I had to the go to the ER to have all my fill removed due to waking up chocking on my own secretions. I stayed with an empty band for almost year deciding what I wanted to do. I visited the surgeon - he confirmed the slip and I'm in the process of a revision. I had my lapband removed this morning and I revise to a RNY next month. I encourage you to look at the good, the bad & the ugly of all surgeries - some people have their bands for years and have great success. Some don't. But I can see why your surgeon doesn't like placing them.

    Love it or hate it?

Hate - it's being removed in 6 days
  3. I'm having my band out this coming Friday, May 6th. I then have part 2 surgery on June 15 for the RNY .... I can't wait to get this band out. It has slipped. I'm more than willing to jump off this bandwagon [emoji6]
  4. Has anyone have the 2 step revision process: 1st surgery band removed & then had to wait 6 weeks to the RNY? How fast was your recovery from having the band removed? I am in the process of trying to be approved to have my band removed and revised to RNY. I had the band placed back in 2013 & thought I was going the conservative route ... Ugh!! If I could go back in time & tell have myself not to do it, I would. I hate this damn thing ... Long story short, it has slipped and it is unfilled. I switched surgeons due to insurance purposes (and well, I didn't feel like my last surgeon listened to my concerns) ... He does a 2 step revision. He wants to remove the band, see how bad the scar tissue is & let that heal. Then go back in 6 weeks and revise.

    2 step revision

I wish I would have done the RNY from the get go, but I was too scared. I was just curious how little time off I can take off from work from the band removal part. I am jumping the gun b/c I'm still awaiting insurance approval.

How long to wait to eat?

Just Curious, how long do you wait to eat after you workout? I do a post-workout recovery shake, but curious if I should wait to eat after I get home

How long to wait to eat?

I drink the recovery shake within 30 minutes if not sooner, but was wondering on an actual meal afterwards. 30 minutes? Hour?

    Straws?

Just curious ... Does anyone else drink out of straws? My pre-op instructions said it was a big No. I'm 5 months post op and discover that I have no issues with straws & wanted to know the rational. I find that I drink more with my camelback water bottle (straw) vs a container you have to sip. I avoid straws with most other drinks ...

    Lap band and cold weather

    Lap band and cold weather

I noticed the extreme cold reeking havoc on my band - had an aggressive fill back in early December, felt great for 2 weeks & then the extreme cold hit. Hurt to eat almost anything, warmer days were better. Decided to have a slight unfill (removed 0.5), now wondering if I removed too much. I will wait 4 weeks, and then maybe ask for .25 to be put back in.

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

I was banded in September 2013, I'm 27 lbs down. I wish I was along further, but 27 lbs is nothing to bat an eye at. I hit a huge plateau for too many weeks, finally over that ... Had to mix up my workout routine & added some running, seems to have helped.

How often do you get a fill?

I thinking I am finally learning that I need to slow down ... It seems I be the hardest thing to wrap my brain around. I had a 2 cc fill a month ago & this is the fill I've felt restriction since I had the surgery 5 months ago. I'm discovering that this cold weather is makes it harder to eat anything. I didn't realize that until PrettyThick mentioned it not only above but in another post.
  13. Was it just me, but did anyone else find the Upper GI ghastly? I think b/w the shot alka selser chased by the barium nearly made me almost vomit all over the machine ... I hope post sx they don't make me do the Alka Selser ...

4th Fill- This May Be Green Zone

I get my first fill on Wednesday, so hoping this helps the curb the hunger. I know it can take several fills but I do hope this helps somewhat.

    Spicy food?

Has anyone found that after getting banded their tolerance of spicy food is different or they can't eat it anymore? I love spicy food, but pre-band I always had water on hand to help with the spiciness ... Today I had an omelet with jalapeño peppers in it - my mouth was on fire & I couldn't even drink water due to the rules. Then I had a bad end result several hours later via a visit to the bathroom where I swear my @ss was on fire (sorry TMI) and all I could think was "this girl is on fire" (Alicia keys song) ... But not in a good way

    Spicy food?

I would cry if I can't eat tomatoes .... Love them!!!
  17. I had a breast reduction 10 years ago, they don't pump you full of gas like the lap-band. I didn't think the sx was horrible at all, I was off pain meds 2 days later, I would do that sx again over lapband, but you might want to wait to lose more weight or like everyone stated, you might end up with deflated & non-perky girls

    Newbie ~ 3 weeks postop

Also start measuring yourself - it's more encouraging that way if you start seeing inches over the scale moving. I'm 4 weeks post-op & I measured myself before surgery. I'm losing inches but the scale keeps telling me the same 1-3 lbs over & over again. Remember that we just shocked our body with a liquid diet & surgery, now let's give our body a chance to heal. I have remind myself constantly "slow & steady wins the race". As fast as I want the weight to come off, we have remind ourselves that we didn't put this weight on overnight. So you need to celebrate your 25 lbs lost, that is truly an achievement.
  19. It took 8 days for my gas pain to go away, the gas-x didn't help me, but the heating pad was my friend. Just keep walking.

    A Blessing In Disguise

It's not the band, I have only had the band for 3 weeks. I've been on the ring for 8 years and my hair has been gradually thinning - I'm not on any other meds. I've had my labs checked countless times & nothing shows. But one if the side affects listed for Nuvaring is hair thinning

    A Blessing In Disguise

I'm thinking of going the IUD, I'm currently on he Nuvaring, while it's convenient I thinks it's caused my hair to thin, weight gain & a low laws drive .... Hoping for something w/o hormones

    Nuva Ring

I'm on the Nuvaring, I discussed the whole birth control thing with my pulmonologist and I didn't want to go off my BC - they wanted me 2 months. So they agreed to put me on lovenix (blood thinner) for 5 days. My surgeon was fine with that. I didn't want to be a hormonal mess on top of my surgery recovery. I understood the risks of blood clots
  24. I had surgery on 9/20 - it took me 9 days to get rid of the gas pain, which for me was shoulder, heart & back pain. Keep walking it off, it does get better. I totally feel myself again

    Lbs lost!

Good job!! Keep up the hard work. I find my weakness is right before bed - especially when I get off late from work. I'm craving something crunchy - so far I've stuck to milk or protein shake
