I was banded 9/20/13. I've lost 21 lbs. I live in Lake Zurich

Pet peeve & rant!!!! When I decided to open up to someone about my recent placement of the band - the first thing out her mouth (I felt she said it snottily) "you don't need it". Really?!! How do you know what I need?? A 41 BMI and countless years of struggling with my weight and you know what's best for me?? I'm sorry, try asking me why I felt I needed to go that direction but don't be so snotty about it!! Okay, rant done!!

Just home from the hospital...
kshannon replied to SJCoach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think so since they pump the gas in you to do the surgery, plus they want you to have nothing by mouth -

Same thing is happening to me (11 days post op)- I'm trying to ignore that part & listen everyone's advice. This is a time for healing & I also remind myself that I have lost 11 inches & that hasn't fluctuated ... Hang in there, I feel your distress

They have a sample package you can buy ahead of time to see what you like

I was a raving lunatic for the for few days and I understand working 12 hour shifts since I work on an Ambulance & in a busy ER. Worst part was watching & smelling my partners eat yummy food. I promise it will get easier, the headaches decrease & you get into a groove with the shakes. I'm saying you will like it, but it's get more doable. I did announce daily that I desired a taco ... But didn't give into the craving. I'm now 1 week post-op, it will fly by faster than you know it

Then she is not much of a friend at all ... She might feel threaten b/c she can compare herself to you & think she is thinner ... She may be the type to try to sabotage you.

Woohoo!! I'm so happy for you!! What a great NSV

When did the gas go away for you? I'm 5 days post-op and I'm still dealing with horrible gas pains. I'm walking tons, using Gas-ex and a heating pad to my left shoulder & back. I ran light errands in the car yesterday and was miserable by the time I got home from the gas pain. I'm burping & passing gas - I just thought it would get better by day 5 - I'm headed back to work tomorrow and I think I'm in for a miserable day.

How are you feeling?

Good luck, you will do great!!

Welcome to the other side, I'm 4 days post op so I'm very new at this. Remember to take it easy on yourself and to stay on top of the pain meds.

My surgery is in 9 hours...sooo nervous!!
kshannon replied to micki91's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will do great!! I would say try to get sleep, but I know that's hard - I just had surgery on Friday & remember laying awake for most of the night due to anticipation. It will be over before you know it and then on to awesome things for yourself!! Remember to deep breath, cough & lots of walking to help the gas escape. Good luck tomorrow, let us know how it goes -
You will do great, it will be here before you know it.

Is it inappropriate to ask for a tranquilizer for surgery day?
kshannon replied to PuraVida37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They usually want you nothing by mouth 12 hours prior to surgery, but talk to your surgeon - they might let you take a small sip of water & some Xanax -

I was given versed just before I was wheeled into surgery, most surgeons give you something to relax -
Tomorrow at 12pm I will join the other side, slightly nervous (I won't lie) & excited at the same time. I have wanted this for a long time, thought about it for several years and it has taken about 1 1/2 years to get approved. I was denied last year for being 5 lbs too light, gave up and then this past summer decided to try it again after discussing it with a banded friend ... And here I am. Here's to hoping I get some sleep!!!
