  1. That's exactly why I didn't tell my mother the truth. Told her I was having hiatal hernia surgery and am sticking with that story.

    Constipation

I'm 1 year out and still have constipation issues. I've been to a GI and take lactulose daily along with a few prunes and fiber. Still an ongoing problem ...

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

I gained a few pounds, unexpectedly, but my pants are loose. Not sure what's going on. Returned a pair of 34 pants and replaced with 33 Slim. Very strange to need a slim ...

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

Still holding at the same weight, which is my objective in maintenance. Definitely consuming more calories but exercising more.

    1 year surgiversary!

Congratulations on your success. My surgery was done on 12/10/2013 also. Amazing how much has changed in one year ...
  7. I was in your shoes 1 year ago almost to the day. I was very nervous and partly due this being my first surgery and all the other typical reasons. Although I had a few bumps in the road this has turned out to be the best decision I ever made. Good luck and start getting excited about the great changes coming soon.

    One-Year Anniversary Today

Congratulations on your success Ava324. Your motivation and commitment have produced excellent results!
  9. As of today, it's been one year since having my life-changing surgery. I went to my surgeons office yesterday and they were elated, as my success equals their success. He asked if I was still logging my food and when I said yes, he mentioned that statistics indicated that 80% of the people achieving high levels of success with the sleeve long-term still log their food and exercise regularly. I'm planning to continue both and hope for long-term success in maintenance.

HW: 314 CW: 166 TPL: 148 TPG: 139 No change, but I'm supposedly in maintenance so I guess I'm not supposed to change. I've definitely increased my calorie intake but also increased my level of exercise. While my weight is remaining somewhat constant, my size 34 pants are fitting loosely so something is going on. I go up and down a pound but seem to land on 166.x most of the time.
  11. I regretted during my first month pre-op after having some complications that required a second surgery. I changed my mind quickly as the weight started falling off. Now almost 1 year out and down 148 pounds I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to be sleeved. This was the best decision of my life!!
  12. Went to my primary Dr yesterday and he agrees with my wife that I should stop losing weight and go into maintenance. After 11 months it's hard to switch gears as losing weight has become such a major focus of my life. But I'm grateful to be at this point and intend to work hard at successfully maintaining.

No change this week. Interesting how so many of us have leveled off at the same time.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

HW: 314 CW: 166 TPL: 148 TPG: 139 Down 1 pound this week. The spin classes and advanced weight training classes seemed to kick start my weight loss again.
  15. You made a very wise decision when choosing to be sleeved. It's normal to be nervous but I'm sure things will work out great! You've already received lots of great advice on the other issues so I won't chime in. Start getting excited about the great changes coming soon. I had surgery last December and the journey has been awesome for me -- one of the most exciting periods of my life!

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

I feel your pain. Cravings are coming back and my ability to eat more has increased. Still, I have significant restriction which helps a lot. I find that I need to keep logging all food to stay vigilant. Weight loss has flattened which is ok, but I am trying to figure out how best to handle long-term maintenance.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

My weight loss has definitely flattened out. I've increased my exercise recently (now going to a spin class) but that's not resulted in any additional weight loss. But, interestingly my size 34 pants are now fitting loosely so something's going on. No complaints ...

Mix Things up with Spin Class?

I did it. ... Joined a gym and did my first spin class. Pretty difficult but I made it through the class and intend to keep going.
  20. I'm 10 months out and have met my goal but would like to lose another 5 - 10 pounds. I work out pretty hard in my basement 6 days a week. I have lots of good equipment and it's been convenient exercising at home with my busy restrictive schedule, but I think I need to vary my routine to get my weight loss moving again. I was going to buy an exercise bike but am thinking of joining a local gym that has lots of spin classes instead. The group setting might get me moving more than just peddling alone in my basement. Recommendations?

Mix Things up with Spin Class?

That is something I'm not doing and should be doing. I'm exercising quite a bit but going the same things over and over. Time to mix it up ... Just trying to decide between buying a spin bike for home and joining a class.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I started at 314 (although my pcp mentioned 324 as my highest weight) and had surgery on 12/10/2013. I'm fluctuating between 167 and 169 as of late and seem to have leveled off. So down about 146 pounds and wearing size 34 pants. I would like to lose another 5 pounds but grateful to be where I am.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

My weight seems to be levelling off during the past few weeks. I've been fluctuating between 167 and 169 pounds but haven't changed my eating or exercise patterns. When I asked my doctor about when to stop losing he said my body would naturally stop at some point and I'm starting to think I've reached that point. I'm fine with this weight level as one goal was to wear size 34 pants, which I'm wearing now and some are a little loose. So, maybe this is it and it's simply time to maintain.

    Non- Supportive Family/Friends

I told a close friend very early in my pre-op stage and he became my worst nightmare, emailing me links to fad diets and ridiculous supplements. He has a lot of weight to lose and has been unsuccessful for many years and has uncontrolled diabetes. I told him I was just investigating surgery options and didn't tell me I'd decided to move forward. That incident resulted in my telling very few people the truth, including my mother. My wife and daughter were part of my decision-making process. Beyond them, I told my siblings and 2 close friends and am glad I kept this quiet. Honestly, I'm just not interested in anyone's opinion, good or bad, regarding my decision. When asked how I lost all of this weight, which is a common question, I just say "I eat like a bird and run like a deer", which is true ...

1 year out and in trouble

Don't look back. It's not too late to use the tool you have in place. My recommendation is to follow the program, verbatim, from the beginning. 1. Make an appointment with your nut and establish calorie/carb levels. 2. Make sure you're drinking 56-64 oz water/day. 3. Log all food, Water, and exercise. 4. Don't drink 30 minutes before/after eating. It will work!!!
