saying goodbye to my old friend...FOOD

A few months ago I was asking myself the same questions and questioning my decision to take such a radical step. Also, I went through a few months of food funerals and gained back 15 pounds I'd lost while going through all of my pre-op appointments. In my appointment with the surgeon to schedule surgery, he was really pissed off at me for gaining and put me on a 3-week pre-op diet. I took that seriously and dropped 31 pounds in 3 weeks, with Thanksgiving in the middle of that. My wife and I cooked for 20 guests and I consumed 450 calories that day. From a dieting perspective, the pre-op diet was the worst part so far. The shakes made me want to barf (and still do thinking about them). Dieting post-op has been a breeze for me. It's like I don't even have to try to diet ... The restriction takes care of my over-eating and my cravings are pretty much gone. I hope this lasts long-term because I'm loving my new outlook on food.

    Frustrated

Stalls happen and they are different for everyone. At 2.5 months out, I'm in one now. I'm only getting in about 650 calories/day and exercise regularly so it does seem strange to not be losing all of the sudden. However, just like my last stall I measured my waist and I've lost an inch during the stall. That's at least reassuring that something is happening. Have you been measuring ?

saying goodbye to my old friend...FOOD

Food is my life...I think about it all the time. I am so f'ing tired of it but it's as if ignoring the thoughts is impossible. Planning what I'm going to eat is a unique feeling and when I have many options (like after grocery shopping) I am consumed. I take chocolate consumption to another level. So after this acknowledgement I am even more ready to not be this person with this overwhelming issue that often times I feel like no one on earth can understand. I was exactly the same way, pre-op. The changes I've experienced after being sleeved have exceeded my expectations. I've had a few bumps in the road, along the way, but the end result has been great. Best of luck in your journey. You've made the right choice ...

saying goodbye to my old friend...FOOD

I certainly fell into the category of making food a top priority in my life, pre-op. My life was revolved around food and I was always planning my next meal. Any time we went anywhere (store, day trip), there was always a feast as part of the trip. I'm now 10 weeks post-op and without even trying, food has become a necessity rather than a form of entertainment. So far, I've not experienced any of the "loss of a friend" or other similar sensations. I still can't consume more than 2 oz of food in one meal, so when my wife asks what we're having for dinner, I find myself not really caring what we're having. Eating 2 oz of anything is over so quickly it really doesn't matter to me. I am very happy to say that I don't miss food. I don't miss the large quantities I was consuming. I don't miss the terribly unhealthy choices I used to make. I don't miss my former obsession with food. I'm very happy eating my 2 oz meals and losing weight ....

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

That advice does sound questionable. About 6 weeks post op, my nut told me to increase my calories to 800/day and then try to increase to 1000/day in a few weeks. I rarely get to 800/day and average about 650 - 700. It's mainly because at 9 weeks out I still can't eat more then 2 oz in one sitting. I'm actually trying to get more calories in but am having trouble. I still can't believe it. Seems like just yesterday when I was eating like a horse.

The scale was kind to me this morning, indicating that I'm now down 80 pounds since my pre-op diet. I'm determined to go all the way to my goal!!

Feeling guilty for living in Florida...

My wife and I have always planned to stay in New England, but we're starting to wear down with each passing year. We had 12" of snow a few days ago and would love to live in FL right now.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I've had similar symptoms for about 1 month. Pain in lower and mid abdominal area, predominantly on my right side but a little on the left side too. Went to my Dr's office and he suspected constipation was behind my pain but wanted to do a CT. The CT didn't reveal anything new -- only pointed out the large kidney stone I've had for 5 years. My surgeon suspects the kidney stone is part of my problem, but I'm convinced it's my ongoing constipation. It's so bad I'm eating less now than I was a month ago, and mostly because I don't want to eat with that bloated feeling. Living on Milk of Mag. but that can't be good to take for an extended period ... I'm losing weight very quickly now, given that I feel so crappy and never want to eat anything. Everyone keeps asking if I feel great after losing all of this weight, and I wish I could say I did. Actually I felt great about one month ago ...

    constipation Wow

I'm about 2 months out and have had severe constipation too for the past 3 weeks. I've tried Fiber one Cereal (the Low cal high fiber one) along with plum smart light, but that's not helped at all. The only thing that's helped me is milk of magnesia which I continue to take every other day. This needs to stop soon ....

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I can't eat more than 2 oz at a time. I tried 4 oz a few times and I was in pain.

    Sick

I can't believe I'm reading this. It explains exactly what I'm going through. First 4 weeks I felt great and now weeks 5 and 6 have been terrible. Can't eat more than 2 oz without feeling lousy. Constipated all the time now and feel bloated most of the time. I'm hoping this changes ...

  23. I am 5 weeks out today and have been feeling bloated on both sides of belly for 4 days. Called on call dr Sunday night and she thought it was constipation which it may be. Took laxative and felt a little better but the bloated feeling is back again. I hate to be a baby pestering the dr as it's not that bad but it gets annoying to feel like crap after eating or drinking all the time. I've reduced portion sizes back to 2 oz from 4 oz but not getting enough Protein and calories are about 600/day. I was doing better when on cottage cheese and yogurt so I'm having more of that again. Ok I'm done whining ....
