FAILURE WITH LAP-BAND
Jkgbander replied to success150's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for talking about this issue. I am experiencing the same. I was banded almost 3 years ago, lost 60# and did great for the first 2-1/2 years kept it off. Now for the last 6 months my weight is really coming back on me. I spent $1,000 on new clothes and now I'm in trouble. I've probably gained 25# back, I don't want to weigh. My doctor retired, plus I have only 1/2 cc restriction, after surgery I could not tolerate the liquid in my band PERIOD it was horrible made 2 trips to ER to have liquid removed and they left only 1/2cc which I have been able to tolerate and lost what I needed to lose. So now what do I do??? I am so upset! I'm hungry, not starving but I know I'm probably eating tortilla chips and queso a little more often than I should when eating out. Has anyone got burned out on certain foods and craved certain foods for a long time then not been able to eat them? That happened to me, I was eating salmon salmon salmon ALL the time, but now I want filet steaks. It's so weird how my taste buds change. Ok, thanks for letting me vent. Would love hearing from anyone else if you are experiencing these same problems too. The other thing I work out and walk at least 4x a week. -

Not feeling enough restriction anymore
Jkgbander replied to loseit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you posted this. I am in the same boat too. I was banded in May of 2013 and I couldn't go with any liquid in my band only a 1/2 cc of Fluid but that was really tight for me for like the first 2 years I did great. Now for about 6 months I've been able to eat more except Pasta it's not good, but I've gained about 20# too and I'm really struggling the hunger at times. I've never had a fill only 2 "unfills" due to I couldn't stand any restriction it was just too tight for my body. My Dr. has retired and now contemplating going to another clinic or Dr. to see if there is anything they can do. Thanks, Jan -
Looking For Lap-Band Guidance
Jkgbander replied to Calli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Calli, I just read your concern about your band and I wanted to tell you about my experience. I was banded on 5/30/13. Lost 60 pounds and have been happy, but during my first week my band was so tight they had to remove 3-1/2 cc out of me so I only have 1/2 cc left in band. I've done well my reflux is gone and I've kept my weight off except during this holiday time Xmas and Thanksgiving I gained back on 12 pounds. I was like oh no I've got to get this off because I didn't want it going back up. In Oct. 2014 I came down with pneumonia/bronchitis and a horrible cough that lasted 4 months, actually I felt like I was going to cough up a lung and was so afraid with my band but all is in tack. What I want you to know I lost 13 pounds from Jan. 2 - Feb. 17.. Then just this week I got on my scales and have lost another 4 so that's 16 pounds since Jan. 2. I saw a friend post on FB about these all natural plant based supplements called Plexus and a Pink drink called SLIM, so I ordered it from her, I had such good luck I also am now a Silver Ambassador with this great company and want to share this to all WLS patients that this is a great tool to use along with the band or by itself band or no band, WLS no WLS! My FB page is Jan Garner in Aubrey, TX, if you want to go to my page and look around or friend me you can see for yourself and all the testimonials. Good luck with your healthy journey and if I can be part of it here is my webpage too: jangarner.myplexusproducts.com go look around and tell me what you think. My email is jkg195140@gmail.com please feel free to contact me anytime. Good luck Calli! Jan Garner -
I really need some help or answers if anyone out there has ever experienced this problem. Starting in Oct. I came down with pneumonia, went to Dr. had the usual Zpack, Steriods, Shots, cough pills, plus 3 inhalers, EVERYTHING! In Nov. I am still coughing, my PCP sends me to a lung specialist, she sent me for these breathing tests which I did not do so good, also lung Dr. sent me for MRI's. Tests came back negative with cancer but lung capacity and breathing functions were very very low, not good. Never a smoker so I was not scared about cancer but concerned somewhat since I am having these issues. Ok, she tells me long story short possibly my HBP medication could be making me have this cough so she changed my HBP meds. Still nothing helps with cough, here it is in January I'm still coughing with a very very deep cough like the old croup. My lung Dr., now says she thinks it could be from my lapband?????? So my PCP puts me on Protonix (sp?) for Reflux just in case that is what I'm experiencing she said maybe silent reflux??????????????? Ok, now I've been on that Reflux medication for 2 weeks and I'm still couging no improvement! Someone mentioned for me to get back to my Lap Band Dr. or go visit a GI Dr. for possible esophagus erosion??????? I was banded in May of 2013 starting weight 202 then lost down 142. I have never had a fill because I was one of those that could not tolerate liquid in my band and was unfilled 2 weeks after surgery. You want to talk about pain that was far worse than any birth I've every gone through. Can someone please throw some light on this subject for me and tell me if they have ever gone through anything like this, or heard of the band causing a bad cough like this. I do have a appt. this week again with my PCP, next week again with my lung specialist. I guess after what I hear back on here if I need to go to my lap band Dr. or if I call a GI specialist. HELP please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am miserable and tired of coughing 24/7!!!! Thank you!

Thanks for all the helpful responses. The reason I cannot tolerate fills is after surgery they put 4 cc in and I was absolutely in pain excruciating actually and after 1 week they removed all but 1/2cc. Also since I've done well losing weight they didn't feel I needed to have liquid put back in and I know how to control my portions and not to overeat.

I am looking for any other banders who might have experienced this trouble. I was banded May 2013 and have done great didn't have a huge BMI but have lost 60 pds and doing well except my pain around port area. I experience this "stinging" nabbing pain around my port and TR here in Dallas they have done one exray and they say it looks ok. I could not tolerate any liquid in my port so I've never had 1 fill only at time of surgery and after surgery in 2013 I had to have all but 1/2cc taken out. LIke I said I've done well lost my weight, feel wonderful but this pain is not everyday 24/7 but it's there and achy. It really hurts when I bend over, so fellow banders any other people found this symptom to happen to them, and if so what did you do? Any input will greatly be appreciated. True Results just says I had gas, but I beg to differ with them, its not gas, it is a completely different pain or hurting than gas. I do know what gas feels like and its not that!! Thanks!

I feel really bad for you and went through same ordeal. I even went to a chiropractor thinking they could help. It will all go away I promise! It was from all that gas being pumped into us, please know it will quit hurting but takes time.

Flying with the Lap Band
Jkgbander replied to zinhaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told its easier on you to not drink or eat anything 2 hours prior to flying. The band tightens while in air do to the change of air pressure. I have not flown yet but have talked to many friends with band and they have given me the 2 hour rule. Also wait for a little while when De boarding so band can adjust. Happy travels! -
Dr. Benavides is my Dr. at True Results and am very happy. From seeing some of the posts on here and the uneducated banders, I wonder did they not listen to what they could eat and do or not do after their surgery. I have hit my 40 pd mark and was banded on 5/29. I eat nothing white; no sugar, flour, no carbs only sweet potatoes lots & lots of fish, salmon, tuna, halibut and my own homemade protein shakes. Its been 4 months since I've had a steak and since my band so many cravings have gone bye bye and beef is one of them. I walk 3-4 miles 6x a week so weight training too. My goal is a size 6 to 8 and I am now in a size 10. Love my band!!! I was such a foodie before but now I eat to live not live to eat!!

I kicked the evil "coke" habit about 6 mo before my surgery. I did love me some cokes tho. Just happy I no longer have the urge to have one.

Could I possibly never need a fill?
Jkgbander replied to Cwalband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 5/28 and have had 1 fill only. I had complications right after surgery with band being to full and all cc's were taken out. I've had 1 fill in July 1/2 cc in a 10 cc band. I'm losing and down 33 lbs. I eat small portions and sometimes get a little hungry but not to bad. -
I'm so surprised as to hearing some banders on here eating & drinking things that's not recommended. I have to ask, did your Dr. not instruct you on bad or accepted foods? I have been banded since 5/29 have lost 33 lbs and very very happy! But I have followed instructions and have only had one fill a 1/2cc in a 10cc band. No issue with being "stuck" no throwing up, I can't wait to get the next 30 some pounds off so I can reach my final weight of 135.

OMG Shoulder pain!!
Jkgbander replied to Blayden2029's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm over 3 weeks post op and the shoulder pain was HORRIBLE!!!! I was told about it but I'm with Hub's old lady on here, I wanted my husband to chop my left shoulder off. I walked I did the pain meds I did the Gas X and it took 2 weeks to go away. Heating pad and I bought one of those neck things you microwave and the heat felt good but it's a pain that you cannot describe. Good luck and it will leave but it takes a while. -

I am a newbie only been banded for 3 weeks now, but I have a question. I have read on here and also visited with a friend who recently flew to Vegas from Dallas and upon landing she discovered she was really in pain!!!!! Bad Pain!!!! So she had to go to ER and have cc's removed from band. She said that didn't really help that much and she was still in pain on return flight. Help people I am scared now to ever fly again, not that I am in the air all the time but if something happened or wanted to take a fast get away I am so skeptical now I don't think you could drug me and get me on a flight! Thanks!!!

Does anyone's Port hurt weeks after surgery?
Jkgbander replied to Deed2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad to hear about this "Port" issue from other banders. I've only been banded for 3 weeks now but on my left side near my belly button I get this stinging pain at times, also I have a pain that is really indescribable near my port. In time I hope that goes away and after seeing these posts I am positive it will.
