I had a surgucal emergency at another hosp and NYU team failed to return our callsfor a week!!!!
HotButterFly replied to secondchancesally's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HOLY SMOKES!! I'm so surprised by your experience. I hope you got the names of the people you spoke to.... More likely than not, Dr. Ren didn't get the messages. I can't see her just ignoring that kind of info. I hope you're doing well. -
Brooklynite right here! Had my surgery July 20 at NYU with Christine Ren. I've lost 37 lbs so far. I'm very familiar with The Slope.

This is another low carb favorite of mine. Sometime I substitute the chicken for TILAPIA. It's the only fish dish my mother enjoys. TRY THIS! It doesn't freeze well, but it can stay in fridge for two to three days. TERRY'S CILANTRO CREAM CHICKEN 4 boneless chicken breasts 3 tablespoons butter 1-2 teaspoons McCormick Rotisserie Chicken seasoning * 3 ounces cream cheese, cubed 3/4 cup heavy cream 1 tablespoon lime juice, 1/2 of 1 small lime 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped, about 2 big handfuls While heating the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat, liberally season the chicken on both sides with the rotisserie chicken seasoning. Don't bother measuring the seasoning, just use as much as necessary. Brown the chicken on both sides in the hot butter. Remove the chicken from the pan. Add the cream cheese and cream to the drippings in the skillet. Over low heat, whisk to blend well as the cream cheese melts. Whisk in the lime juice and stir in the cilantro. Return the chicken to the pan; cover and simmer 15 minutes, turning after about 7 minutes. When chicken is cooked through, place on serving plates and pour about 1/4 cup of the sauce over each serving. The sauce doesn't reheat well - but the taste is still fantastic!

If you lead a busy life I suggest setting aside a day to cook things that hold well in the fridge for a few days, or even in the freezer... That way, you will always have a meal ready. Try this: MEATLOAF 2 pounds ground beef 2 eggs 1/4 cup low carb ketchup 1 1/2 teaspoons dry onion flakes 2 teaspoons Seasoning Salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded Glaze Mix all but the glaze in a large bowl until well blended. Line a 9x5" loaf pan with heavy duty foil. Lightly press the meat mixture into the pan; push the sides of the foil up to form a collar to catch any excess grease. Mix the glaze ingredients and spread over the meatloaf. Bake at 425º 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 325º and bake about 50 minutes longer or until an instant read thermometer reads between 140 and 150 degrees. Let the meatloaf rest a few minutes before slicing. Glaze: 1/2 cup low carb ketchup 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard 2 tablespoons granular Splenda Makes 8 servings Can be frozen

Band life... Serious questions...
HotButterFly replied to rcaruthie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jim, that's actually a really nice history you've got there. I'm complaining about those who do .5 at a time (or less).... That's got to be frustrating. So far I've had: 1st 3cc 2nd 1cc 3rd 1.5cc (because I asked for the extra .5) 4th only .5cc because I lost 8lbs in 2.5 weeks. My surgery was 7/20/13 and I've lost 37lbs -
Band life... Serious questions...
HotButterFly replied to rcaruthie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It kinda pisses me off when surgeons are so LAXED with fills. I totally understand taking it slowwwwwly to reach the green zone in a controlled and safe manner, but I feel there's little merit in having to wait TEN months for proper restriction. I hope you can soon find that sweet spot... And remember, 40 lbs lost are FORTY LBS LOST!!! It's better than gaining them. I'm rooting for you. -

losing hair daily
HotButterFly replied to Lorettanjgal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For a whole year BEFORE surgery I was losing my hair and it had me so depressed. I've always love my full-volume, crazy, curly hair and I couldn't even accomplish my signature look which was that wild, untamed, but well kept look. Surprisingly, after surgery my hair has stopped falling out, and I have lots of "baby hairs" growing which makes me look funny sometimes. I will have to blame my protein intake AND my daily vitamins. I take them religiously. One piece of advice: try not to worry so much about it because that only perpetuates the issue. Instead, go and see your dermatologist. They will probably put you on a 6 month treatment which includes biotin pills. Also, there are shots that the dermatologist can inject in your scalp to help with this issue. I've been using a sulfate-free shampoo (expensive) but I have no idea if that's contributing to the re-growth. Best wishes! -
You're a WINNER!

Who Has Had The Band Done At Nyu? :)
HotButterFly replied to Anali11's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Like I said, I was scheduled to go home that same afternoon but hubby had the brilliant idea to have them call the insurance and request an over-night stay. That was such a wise decision because that same night I got this TREMENDOUS pain in my abdominal area that it really spooked me (I don't get scared easily) the nurse was there in a heartbeat and gave me pain meds.... The broth they give you though is DOO DOO!! OMG! I didn't eat the entire time I was there. It's a powder you mix in hot water. Grossss! -
No, of course not! Just trying to gage the situation. I don't do it socially neither. I do it at home, when its time to settle down, or when I want to let loose a little extra in the sack

I smoke it. In fact I killed a roach a few minutes ago. Do you HAVE to be DRUNK (or high) to have a good time? I can enjoy myself perfectly without zero alcohol, so I could never understand people who must drink to have fun... And, I know you said "ignore" it, but as far as "munchies" I allow myself a bite-size chocolate and I won't over do it. I do, however, eat it extra slowwwwwwly, so as to delight in it.

Who Has Had The Band Done At Nyu? :)
HotButterFly replied to Anali11's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I should also add that they gave Sugar Daddy (hubby) the prescription for my pain medication even BEFORE I was in the OR, you fill it in the hospital's pharmacy.... And it's LIQUID!! I haven't seen anyone else mention their surgeon wrote a prescription for LIQUID pain meds. Most people have to cut it or crush it. -

Post op experience was also wonderful. The nurses were VERY understanding and willing to accommodate me if I had pain. I was originally scheduled to go home the same day, but hubby asked the nurse to please call my insurance and request an overnight stay. I was against it at first, but then I realized it was a very wise choice. My surgery was 7/20 and I've had 4 fills with FRANK.... Cool guy, btw. He gave me 3cc at my first fill, 1cc... Then 1.5 cc... My most recent fill was this passed Friday, during which he only added .5 cc because I had lost 8 pounds in two and a half weeks. He said normally he wouldn't give someone a fill with such results, but since I'm starting a new job, he wanted me not to stress about it. -

needle used for fill on lap band
HotButterFly replied to catharina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think she's planning on doing it herself, I think she just wants to know to be prepared. I have NO IDEA what da heck they use, I can tell you it doesn't hurt at all... It's probably 2.5 inches ... But that's an uneducated guess because I've never really looked at it -
I refuse to go back to "that" side of the store!
