    Question for WLS veterans

    Totally agree with Amburmist. Speaking for myself, I have fruit, but try to stick with a low carb diet most of the time. I had WLS in 2011. I make bread/pasta substitutions whenever possible. Going out can be a challenge, but I don't beat myself up over eating carbs because I know that the portion size is not going to cause much damage.

    Nervous about revision

    It's normal to be nervous about any surgery. I wasn't a failure with the band until I needed emergency surgery to remove it. However, I did regain some, which I've lost with the bypass. Don't stress too much. It's worth it!

    Regret

    No regrets! It's way too soon. Any surgery is going to knock you out for a few days and more than likely a few weeks. Give yourself time. It takes time to get used to all the changes. Deep breath. Take it slow. Believe me, it's worth it and you will not regret it.

  6. I have to be honest, I've never measured a full meal by the cup. I don't eat much to tell you the truth. I usually don't even finish what I put on my plate, but I would say that I probably eat about 2-3 ounces of solid Protein at a sitting, plus maybe a quarter cup of veggies and a small salad. As for the two kitchens, we have an apartment on the first floor of our high ranch that my grandmother used to live in. Never rented out after she passed, so I use that kitchen for cooking, but we both eat down there. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Breakfast is usually either a Protein shake with whey protein, unsweetened almond milk and fruit (strawberry/blueberry or cherry) or I'll have 1-2 eggs with bacon. Lunch is usually a dinner leftover. Or I'll make a deli meat roll up (ex, ham and cheese or roast beef with arugala). Snacks - almonds, fruit-watermelon, peach, apple, etc, cheese, Protein Chips (not big on the Protein bars anymore). Flavored coffee (Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Decaf, love it!). I add non dairy creamer. Dinner usually consists of a meat or fish Protein, vegetable and possibly a salad. Sometimes I make cauliflower meals, such as cauliflower pizza (I order the crust from Cali'flour - they're great!). I top with mozzarella and grilled veggies. Or I'll make fried cauliflower rice with chicken or shrimp. I actually love to cook, so I really don't get bored creating healthy meals. Sometimes my husband cooks - and he almost always makes a carb with the meal. Depending on what it is, I may eat it. (He makes the best homemade French Fries, lol). Since we both love cooking, we have separate kitchens! He loves cast iron. Too heavy for me. Crock pot cooking is great, too.   8. I have to say that at 1 1/2 years out of bypass surgery (6 years from band), my stomac measures how much I can eat without weighing. I keep track in my head to make sure I'm meeting my goals. Before surgery I could never have done that. Now I actually get a feeling of satisfaction and fullness. I try to do Protein first, then veggies, then healthy carbs. Recently went to Italy and ate more carbs in 10 days than I have in the last 6 years. Luckily, with all the walking we did, no damage was done. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Family dinners

    Well, didn't say they were always happy about it, but my kids are grown now. My son is 26 and now him and his fiance live far away. He does love pasta! My daughter actually eats pretty much like I do, even when she moved out. She's back home now and really appreciates my healthy cooking. My husband is somewhat on the band wagon. But if they don't choose to eat what I cook, they can cook themselves or go out to eat, lol. And, agree that an athlete needs carbs for energy. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Timeline for Revision process?

    I had band to bypass revision surgery in March 2016. I had my band removed in December 2015. My insurance required a 90 day timeframe.   14. It is extremely difficult to change old habits, but don't quit on the new ones yet! You have done amazingly well and this is just a small bump in the road. That's why they call it a journey.     Conversion- Worth it?

    Banded in 2011, lost 118 lbs. Had heartburn really bad, so I had emergency surgery to have it removed in 2015. Gained about 70 lbs back. Had a revision to bypass in March of 2016 and I am down 110 lbs from my highest. 120 lbs @ 4'10 1/2". I've lost almost as much as I weigh. I had a few complications at the beginning, but it has all worked out and it was well worth it. It's a totally different feel for fullness. I used to get the shoulder pain when I was full.
