Adhesions can be EXTREMELY painful. I agree with UK Cathy. The surgeon knows best and was looking out for you. Why trade one problem for another? Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App

Question from a Non-cook
DownsizingDonna replied to Janey B's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you discussed your concerns with your husband? It may be less of an issue for him than you think. Since he is more of the cook in the house, would he be willing to modify the meals to help you? For example, if he is meat and potatoes, can he make a vegetable with it? If he won't eat chicken or fish, maybe you can prepare those things ahead of time and have them ready for dinner when he makes the other foods. Going into this surgery with a continued plan of eating out is not good. You will probably still lose weight the first year, but when it comes to reaching goal or maintaining, it won't work. You have to be committed to you and your new healthy lifestyle. Sent from my LG-H631 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm in the process of getting my first one at 55 years old. It signifies my WL journey. From "ugly duckling" to "beautiful swan". Even though I never thought of myself as an ugly duckling.... Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

Deciding the Band
DownsizingDonna replied to Isabel2point0's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lapband in 2011. Did very well with it. Got to goal, but as others have said, had complications and had to have it removed. I revised to bypass at the end of March. My doctor is revising many of his band patients due to complications. It was a great tool when it wasn't causing problems, but it doesn't seem to be a long term surgery without having additional surgeries later on down the road. And this is not to bash the band, because I loved it when it wasn't causing problems, but more of an observation of what I've seen and experienced. Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App -
Any Long Island sleevers?

I'm on Long Island, but I had lapband revision to bypass. I used Dr Ahmad both times. Two of my friends used Dr Alam. Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App -
Good meal options at Costco
DownsizingDonna replied to kahula18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They carry Bumble Bee brand seared Ahi Tuna steaks. They are absolutely delicious and portioned into 4 individual steaks. The portion size is 6 three oz portions per box, so each steak actually is a 5oz portion, making the stats 200 calories 30 grams Protein. $12.99 for the box. If you like fresh tuna at a Sushi restaurant, you will LOVE this!!! Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App -
I had band to bypass revision on 3/28. I had my band removed on 12/17 due to complications. I had no problem getting approved, just had to stay above BMI requirements, which wasn't a problem around the holidays, lol. Good luck! Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

Portion Size
DownsizingDonna replied to DownsizingDonna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. I will make an appointment with the nutritionist. I haven't experience dumping, luckily. I have really tried to find those signals. I used to get the hiccup. Sometimes pain in my shoulder, but with RNY I haven't had anything. I may just be eating too fast, so I'm not giving my brain time to catch up and say that I've had enough. I had a lapband to RNY revision on 3/28. I am having a very hard time figuring out what my new portion size should be. My Dr says that a lot of his revision patients seem to have the same issue. The "signals" or soft stops that I had with the lapband are not there anymore. And by the time I get a signal that I had enough with RNY, I am beyond full. How do you know when you are satisfied and had enough? Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

Don't you like Florida? You are lucky to be able to have great weather all year long. How long have you lived there?

I'm from Moriches and have had the lapband since Oct 12, 2011. My doctors are Dr. Ahmad and Dr. Agarwala. They are great! I have lost over 100 lbs. I belong to LIPO (Long Island Post Ops) which is a wonderful local support group. If anyone is interested in joining LIPO, I'll get you the information.
